ABEYTA -- Nicolas P. Abeyta, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2009. Nicolas was born June 16, 1929 to Nicolas and Antonia Abeyta of Los Brazos, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Abeyta. He is survived by his brother, J. Gabriel Abeyta of Los Ojos; his son, Nick and wife, Sandra; sons, Larquin, and Terry and wife, Debbie; daughter, Marla and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Jessica, Monica, Nicole, Marisha, Valerie, Ivan, Janelle, Melanie, Elisa, Keilah, Rikki-Lee, Kamie and Cory; one great-granddaughter, Mella Grace; and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Albuquerque on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Reception will follow.

ANDERSON -- Charles Donald Anderson, age 86, ret. Attorney and Federal Public Defender for the District of Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009. The visitation with the family present will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, (tonight) with Services scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, both in the Garden Chapel of Watson Reflection Pointe. Full Military Burial Honors will follow in the Richland Cemetery in rural Douglass, KS. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Zerita Anderson; sister, Myriam Riley; and great-granddaughter Emma Cartwright. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; children, C. BUCK -- William "Bill" H. Buck, 79 passed away in the comfort of his home on May 2, 2009. Bill was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1929. He moved to New Mexico in 1954 and lived in Albuquerque and at Bluewater Lake. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen L. and Charles A.; one grandson, Jeremy M.; his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Wilson Buck; one sister, Rosalie Koehler and husband Bill of Camphill, PA; five children, William H. II and wife Sharon; Gregory H. and wife Annamarie, David G. and wife Jeanne, Frank J. and wife Vicki, Brenda Carroll and husband Chuck; two daughter-in-laws, Karen Cunningham and Pat D. Buck; nineteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Bill enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in the Jemez and Bluewater. He cherished having his family close to sit around a campfire, to watch the sun setting and the hummingbirds feeding. He enjoyed the fruits of his gardening efforts, especially the peaches and tomatoes. Bill retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. He served as a firefighter and an EMT for the Bluewater Acres Fire Department and was an active member of Risen Saviour Catholic Mission. CASTEEL -- Robert E. Casteel, a resident of the Albuquerque area since 1945, passed away on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, January 26. 1922, and was preceded in death by his wife, Bette, in August 2001. He is survived by his son, Douglas Casteel; grandson, Dustin Casteel; his loving friend Sally McGrath; and his extended family, Vicki Vehar and Valla Merrell. He was a resident of Corrales since 1958 and an employee of Stromberg's Men's Wear for 37 years as manager, buyer, and president the last ten years of his tenure. Prior to his retirement, he served on the National Board of Menswear Retailers of America. Bob was a WW II pilot, flying combat in Martin B-26s and in B-25s in Europe, and A-26s over China and Japan. He joined the New Mexico Air National Guard in 1947 and later flew P-51s and F-80s during and after the Korean War. He received the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the European Theater Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze star, the Distinguished Unit Citation Emblem with one oak leaf cluster and the French Croix de Guerre avec palm, among other awards and decorations. He was a past member of the Corrales Watershed Board and a member of the Albuquerque Hanger of Quiet Birdmen. He enjoyed golf, skiing and a good martini. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on, Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Old San Ysidro Church in Corrales, (exact time will be posted closer to service date). CHANCE -- Norma Chance, a long time resident of Albuquerque passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, April 30, 2009. Norma was a member of the DAR and was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII. Norma was active in her church and enjoyed bridge and writing. She is survived by her children Kevin Chance (Betty), Jane Brown and Patricia Cilke (John); five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter R. Chance. CHAVEZ -- Eloy D. Chavez, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Eloy was a descendent of the original founding families of Albuquerque. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rose; his two sons, Dr. Eloy A. Chavez, Jr. and wife, Betsy, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Robert W. Chavez of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Veronica Kirksey of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Michael Chavez, Christina Chavez, Adam Chavez and Jarrod Chavez, all of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one sister, Margaret Montoya and her husband, Anselmo of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David S. and Piedad Chavez; a daughter, Veronica Ann Chavez; six brothers, Alfred Chavez, Tom Chavez, David Chavez, Reginald Chavez, Charles Chavez, and Solomon Mirabal; four sisters; Carmen Chavez, Connie Chavez, Annie Pershing, and Jemma Romero. Eloy was a graduate of Albuquerque High School class of 1939. He proudly served his country in the First Cavalry Division of the United States Army during WWII, under General Douglas MacArthur. He served at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Eloy graduated from the University of New Mexico with his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree. He was a retired teacher and counselor for Albuquerque Public Schools after serving for 31 years. Eloy worked for the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation Departments as a recreation specialist. He was a prominent and distinguished high school sports official with the New Mexico Activities Association for over 50 years. He was inducted into the Albuquerque Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame. He was the Commissioner of Officials for the Central Region as well as an assignor for many high school athletic events. Eloy had many friends across the State of New Mexico who were officials and coaches. He was loved and admired by all. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Chapel. GREEN -- Rose-Ann Victoria Green, age 30, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, arrived in heaven on Friday, May 1, 2009. She is survived by her mother, Rose Mary Green; father, Darnell Marice Green; grandmother, Helen Williams; sister, Kimberly T. Shelby; brother-in-Christ, Damon L. Shelby; four nieces, Jasmine, Nahya, Kendra, and Hannah Shelby; and many cousins whom she loved. Rose-Ann is preceded in death by her son, Gabriel David Navardo, May 2, 1997. Rose-Ann graduated from Sandia High School in 1995. In high school, Rose-Ann was in the APS CEC Nursing program until she went into renal failure. However after high school, she successfully completed Pima Medical Institute's Pharmacy Technician Program. GUTIERREZ -- Lupe P. Gutierrez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, was called home to our Heavenly Father on May 1, 2009. Miss Gutierrez was born on June 30, 1921 to Abel and Ofelia (Zamora) of Albuquerque, NM. She was a longtime school teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools as well as internationally. She is survived by her sister, Emma DeRaad of Albuquerque; nieces, Erlinda DeRaad, Jennifer Gutierrez, Evelyn DeRaad and Rose Palmer; nephews, Billy DeRaad, Maurice DeRaad, Joe Gutierrez, and Manny Gutierrez. HILLIGOSS -- John Paul Schindler Hilligoss age 30, of Albuquerque, NM made his transition on April 30, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. JP lived in Springfield and Chatham Illinois and Cherokee County Oklahoma as well as Albuquerque, New Mexico. His life-long passion was his music--writing, singing, playing the violin, guitar and keyboard and recording. He will be remembered as a gentle spirit as well as a warrior ever ready to defend the vulnerable or handicapped. He loved photography and was a published author. Survivor's include: mother, Kathleen Schindler-Wright and stepfather, Keith Wright; father, David Hilligoss PhD.d and stepmother, Cindy Hilligoss; brothers, Matthew Hilligoss, George Hilligoss and Dylan Gibson; sisters, Elizabeth Hilligoss Allen and Kate Gibson; grandparents Roy Schindler, Yanna Crites; step-grandparents, Patsy and Leland Wright and his aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins who loved and will miss him greatly. His grandparents, Mary Schindler and Ola Crites preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held at Abts Mortuary 905 S. 5th St. Pekin, IL 61554 at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 9, the Rev. HOBART -- Phillip (Pete) S. Hobart, 81 of Albuquerque, NM passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009. He was born in Rockford, Illinois, November 28, 1927 to Kathryn S. Hobart the second of her three children. Pete married his wife of 56 years JoAnn of Albuquerque in 1952. Other survivors include their three children, Jeff Hobart and his wife Kristy of Austin Texas, Mark Hobart of Albuquerque, Peter Hobart and his wife Lisa of Albuquerque. Six grandchildren, Jeanine Hobart, Logan Hobart, Jeffrey Hobart, Andrew Hobart, Joshua Hobart, and Phillip Hobart. Two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sally Eichman and Richard (Dick) Hobart, several nieces and nephews. He was a WWII veteran stationed in Virginia. He enjoyed his career with Prudential Financial Services for some 50 years and enjoyed serving his clients. His legacy and example was evident in his faith, his family and his work. He will be missed but will be remembered by those he touched. Cremation has taken place. JARAMILLO -- Janet Jaramillo, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Saturday, May 2, 2009. A resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1946, she was born Janet Monaghan on December 31, 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland, the eldest of eight siblings. Janet married Joe Trujillo, Sr. on June 2, 1944 in Glasgow. They met while Joe was serving in the US Armed Forces overseas. Janet had her son, Joe Jr. and then made the transatlantic trip from Glasgow to New York on the Queen Mary in March 1946. Janet became a United States citizen on November 17, 1952. Later, she remarried Petronilo Jaramillo with whom she was married for nearly 25 years. She is preceded in death by her infant son, Richard Trujillo. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all. Her sons are Joe Trujillo, Jr. and wife, Martha and John P.D. Trujillo and wife, Nora. Her daughters are Marie (Vickie) Smith and husband, Bob, Carol Ann Fidani and husband, Robert, and Kathy Hyatt and husband, John. Janet had ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. JARAMILLO -- Marcella Ana Jaramillo, 70, a resident of Albuquerque went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2009. Mrs. Jaramillo is survived by her beloved husband of 57 yrs, Mr. Luis Celso Jaramillo; her children, Orlando Jaramillo and wife, Laurie, Sandra Aragon and husband, Steve, Raymond Jaramillo and wife, Arleen, Anthony Jaramillo and wife, Naomi, Manuel Jaramillo Sr. and fiancee, Doris, Nancy Monroe and husband, Charles; her sisters, Alice Baca and husband, Willie, Elsie Baca and husband, Vincent, and Jessie Saiz and husband, Fred; her brothers, Don Gutierrez and wife, Lalie, Alvin Vigil and wife Aimee, Ernest Vigil and wife, Freida and Gilbert Vigil and fiancee, Eufemia; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jaramillo was preceded in death by her daughters, Maria (Dolly), and Lorraine; and one brother, Gene Gutierrez. Mrs. Jaramillo was employed as a housekeeper at Presbyterian Hospital for over 20 years. JOHNSON -- Marilyn Mincey After a long and courageous battle with stomach cancer, Marilyn went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2009. She was 65. Marilyn was born in Winter Haven, Florida on November 15, 1943 to Clarence and Cora Bridges Mincey. Marilyn was the youngest of five children, Myrlene Stamey, Ronald Mincey, Tal Mincey, and Jan Dorin. She spent the first 43 years of her life in central Florida. During that time she married Pete Harris and enjoyed raising her kids in the Florida sunshine. She accepted a full-time position in the offices of Gapway Groves where co-workers took note of her abilities and encouraged her to continue her education. Marilyn married Paul Johnson and moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1986. She put herself through college while working full time and graduated at age 48 with almost perfect grades. She was proud of the work she did as Business Manager at Hytec Engineering where she developed lasting friendships with her co-workers. Marilyn was an exceptionally dedicated mother and grandmother who deeply loved her children, Terry Harris, Monica Orr and husband JJ, and Chad Harris and wife Allison. Marilyn lived to spend time with her grandchildren Justin, Tyler, Trevor, Nicholas, Cameron, Joshua, and Hayden. She enjoyed spending time with her stepson Erik Johnson and stepdaughter Jennifer Murzyn, husband Steve, and their children Nathan and Hannah. Marilyn always sought to instill self-confidence in her children and grandchildren. She put their interests over her own and never missed a little league game, basketball game or band concert. Marilyn had many nieces and nephews who she loved and was close to. Family and friends will never forget her sage advice, honest opinions, and her great cooking. She will be dearly missed. Marilyn will also be remembered for her incredible strength. She was diagnosed with stomach cancer on March 23, 2002. After being given a small chance of one-year survival, Marilyn beat the odds and lived another seven years. During that time she saw the birth of four grandchildren, traveled the world, and seemed to cherish life more than ever before. Her family will never forget the courage with which she faced her fight with cancer. Our family will never forget the sacrifices Monica and Jan made in caring for Marilyn the last several years. Marilyn was blessed to have her beloved daughter and sister by her side through her illness. MANZANARES -- Benito A. Manzanares, 70, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at his home. He was born June 10, 1938 in Costilla, New Mexico, a son of Jose J. and Lucy Trujillo Manzanares. He married Ruth Ortiz, July 6, 1957 in Costilla, NM. She passed away September 9, 2002. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: LeRoy Manzanares and Mary Ann, and Joseph and wife, Tina Manzanares; Barbara Manzanares and Tony Ulibarri; and Annette Munoz and husband, Andrew; nine granddaughters and two grandsons; seven great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons; four sisters, Florence and husband, Joseph Marquez, Henrietta Arellano, Gloria and husband, Juan Peralez, and Patricia Manzanares. NUNEZ -- John Nunez, 51, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 4, 2009, went home to be with his Lord and is now reunited with his wife and father. Mr. Nunez is survived by his mother, Mrs. Stella Nunez; his daughters, Jessica Montoya and husband, Greg, and Nichole Jiron and husband, Daniel; his son, Johnny I. ORTEGA -- Rebecca "Becky" Teofila Gonzales, born in Tres Piedras, NM on May 10, 1915 to Antonio and Raquel (Duran) Gonzales, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2009 with one of her sons Manuel Ortega by her side. She attended school in Tres Piedras where she furthered her education at Loretta Academy for Girls in Santa Fe, NM and eventually taught elementary school in Tres Piedres. She married Manuel "Chili" A. Ortega in Alamosa, Colorado in 1935 and moved to Albuquerque NM in 1941. Becky was employed at Presbyterian Hospital, Anna Kaseman Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital as a medical librarian, she retired in 1992 at the age of 77. Becky was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and St Therese Catholic Church. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America. Becky is survived by, her sisters; Linda Blakely, Leah Duran, and Florence Quintana, her children; Manuel Ortega Jr., and wife Elvira, Arlene Fitz-Simon and husband Jim , Arnold Ortega and wife Judy, her grandchildren; Sam Ortega and wife Cheri, Benito and Richard Chavez, Bea Carlisle and husband Jim, Betty Jean Ortega, Jim Fitz-Simon Jr., and wife Cheryl, Julie Fitz-Simon, Judi Fitz-Simon, Eddie Fitz-Simon and wife Heather, David Ortega and wife Joanna, her great-grandchildren; Samantha, Armando, and Naomi Ortega, Benjay, Matthew and Kristy Chavez, Socorro, Bianca, Samuel, Isabell Burciaga, Jimmy Sievers and wife Yadira, Travis Sievers, Desiree and Luke Carlisle, Jeff and Jason Russell, Megan, David and Eddie Jay Fitz-Simon, McKenna and Marleigh Ortega, her great-great-grandchildren; Andre Carlisle and Yazmin Sievers. PETERSON -- "Red" John K. Peterson was born in Marshall, MO, Saturday, December 1, 1928. Red moved to Albuquerque, NM with his family in 1939. Red served in the US Navy from 1950-1954. He was a Korean War veteran. After military service, Red spent his life building homes and in commercial construction throughout New Mexico. He was passionate about the sport of horse racing both as an owner and spectator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. SCHODERBEK -- Leslie Wardrop Schoderbek, age 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, died 1 May, 2009. Leslie, daughter of Leslie and Irene Baker Wardrop, was born in Golconda, IL in 1926 and attended school there. She graduated from Alton (IL) School of Nursing in 1947 and was a registered nurse with a specialty in psychiatry for seven years, five of which were served at Hines VA Hospital in Hines IL, and two years as a 1st Lt in the USAF at Parks AFB, Pleasanton CA. In 1955 Leslie married 1st Lt. Stephen Schoderbek who completed 30 years of military service in 1977. During some of those years she served as a Red Cross Volunteer Nurse at the USAF Academy, CO and Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL. After their military life, Leslie and Steve moved to their home in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains and enjoyed thousands of gorgeous sunsets. Her greatest joy in life was her family and her collection of friends. After Steve's second retirement in 1985 they traveled extensively in the US, border to border and shore to shore, until 2004 when Leslie became wheelchair dependent. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stephen E. Schoderbek; daughter Joanna and husband, Maris Biela of Littleton, CO; sons David and wife, Dianna (Kottlowski), and their two children Donald and Florence, of Eagle River, AK; and Brian of Albuquerque. Ennichment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery Columbarium in late June. STAPP -- SUZANNE H. STAPP Born March 10, 1934 in McAllen, TX passed away peacefully Friday May 1, 2009 in Los Alamos. She is survived by her husband of 56-years, James (Jim) Stapp; sister Mazie and husband Frank Ryburn of Lubbock, TX; brother Joe and wife June Hall of Port Ludlow, WA; daughter Lynne Stapp; son Lee Stapp; granddaughter Shoshana Stapp, all of Albuquerque and Foster son Jeff Brode of Colorado. Jim and Suzanne moved to Los Alamos in 1959, where she spent many years working for the Los Alamos School System. Suzanne was a secretary at Aspen Elementary School from 1961-1962 and Pinon Elementary School from 1963-1973. She continued working at the Los Alamos School's business offices as a purchasing clerk until retiring in 1988. She has been an active member of the United Church of Los Alamos and was a charter member of the White Rock Presbyterian Church. Suzanne enjoyed dancing with Jim and the Mountain Mixers Square Dancers and sailing at Heron Lake. She loved reading and playing games with her family, as well as traveling with Jim in the recreational vehicle on trips with the Pajarito Sams RV Club. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the "New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches" (www.theranches.org) in lieu of flowers.
