CAMDEN -- Elizabeth Anne Ball Torres Camden passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008 of heart failure. She was born on October 2, 1960 in Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Camden of Bosque Farms; parents, Frederic and Kathleen Ball of Albuquerque; her sister, Susan Ball and her son, Francis S. Torres by a previous marriage. Also, by her stepchildren, Mark and Lacey Camden. Elizabeth graduated from Sandia Prep School and attended the University of Denver. She supported herself and her son as a secretary and with a shop she co-owned in Old Town. She loved animals, singing, the arts and gardening. At the age when he was three months old her son performed with her as mother and baby gypsies in the Opera Carmen at the Kimo. She is mourned by her husband, Ron, her son, parents, sister, extended family and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 1st United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008. Her many friends are invited to come celebrate Elizabeth's life in the service and remain for a gathering in the Fellowship Hall. Donations may be made to a group that serves women's and children's needs or organ donations.

CHAVEZ -- Sammy J. Chavez passed away December 17, 2008 at the age of 36. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robbie Chavez; and his uncle Michael Pacheco. Sammy is survived by his parents Cecilia and Robert Chavez; son, Adrian Jonathan Chavez; sister, Melissa Scott and husband, Todd; grandfathers, Fred Pena and Tobias Chavez; grandmother, Margaret Pacheco; many aunts and uncles; and nephews and nieces, Alicia, Emorie, Todd Jr., Jude Anthony and Raquel. A Rosary for Sammy will be recited on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Church. FRANKLIN -- Sol Franklin Jr., a fifty-five year resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday the 13th of December 2008 in Albuquerque. Sol was born to Sol and Lenora Bull Franklin February 8th, 1922 in El Paso, Texas. He married Amelda "Melly" Spikes in 1947 after serving as a gunnery instructor during WWII. Sol is a graduate of the University of Texas and spent his career as a Stock Broker. Sol was a nationally ranked tennis player for many years and past president of the Albuquerque Tennis Club, With Vets doubles partner Reggie Garcia, he was ranked sixth in the nation by the American Lawn Tennis Association. Sol is survived by his loving wife Amelda of sixty-one years of marriage, children Susan Maxberry and her husband Richard of Lawton, OK, April Price of Albuquerque, Tod Franklin and his wife Karen of Dallas, TX, Sister Joanna Dodge of El Paso, TX, sister in law Ann Franklin of Carrolton, TX, Grandchildren Christopher Rockhold of Lawton, OK, Ethan Price of Honolulu, HI, Ryan Price of Phoenix, AZ, Kameron and Logan Franklin both of Dallas, TX. Seven Nieces and Nephews survive as well. Sol will be deeply missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Sol Franklin and Leonora Bull Franklin. FRINGS -- Manfred Frings died peacefully Monday, December 15, 2008. He is survived by his soul mate and wife of 32 years, Karin; daughter, Bliss; and many friends, colleagues, and grateful felines. Dr. Frings was a professor emeritus of Philosophy at DePaul University in Chicago. Manfred taught and lectured at a variety of universities in the U.S. and abroad, including the universities of Cologne, Freiburg, Oxford, Varna, and the Sorbonne. Since 1970, he was editor of the German Edition of the Collected Works (Gesammelte Werke) of the philosopher Max Scheler. Besides his research in contemporary philosophical issues, such as the order of values, the sociology of knowledge, morals and politics, and the philosophy of time, he focused on the historical links between pre-Socratic thought and basic concepts of contemporary atomic physics; Dr. Frings was honorary president of the International Max Scheler Society and a founding member of the Max Scheler Society of North America. He was humbled to have had the privilege of being a contributing writer to the Encyclopedia Britannica. He published well over one hundred articles, edited twenty four books and wrote a number of books including "A Concise Introduction into the World of a Great Thinker". His research in Max Scheler's philosophy and extensive work as editors of Scheler's collected works met with many expressions of recognition and gratitude, among them was his meeting at the Vatican with Pope John Paul II in private audience, after writing the forward to Pope John Paul II's book Primat des Geistes. Manfred was a member of the National Association of Scholars, the Air Force Association, the Heritage Foundation, and was American correspondent for The British Society for Phenomenology from 1975 until 1996. Among his avocations were playing the violin and piano, the latter of which he taught himself, by ear. He had given recitals both home and abroad. His favorite was the piano music of classic romanticism, especially Frederic Chopin and Franz Schubert. He was contentedly playing his piano at home when he had a stroke. He went peacefully to wherever it is we go when we leave this life the following morning. HAYES -- Barbara Hayes, RN, CADAC, passed away on December 8, 2008 at age 84, with loving family by her side. She was born in New Bedford, MA on September 23, 1924. After receiving her nursing degree at Peter Bent Brigham Women's Hospital and teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, she married and moved to Los Alamos in 1953. She worked for many years at the Los Alamos Medical Center in surgical, pediatric, and ER units. She also worked at medical centers in Espanola, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Canon City, CO. She earned her certification for alcohol and drug addiction counseling and worked in Embudo, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Haight-Asbury district in San Francisco, CA. She was especially proud of being a member of the American Indian Nurses Assoc., as well as the Nurses Union. She is survived by her six children, daughters Leslie Kappen-Enders (Robert) of Magdalena, Lynn Hayes-Hood (Neal) of Farmington; sons William, Bernard and Michael of Albuquerque and Donald Kappen (Tina) of New Orleans; and three grandchildren Hannah, Mary, and Will. Requiem Mass will be celebrated by long-time family friend, Father Arkad Biczak at John XXIII Catholic Community, Albuquerque, on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. The family wishes to extend a very special Thank You to all the wonderful staff at Presbyterian Hospice and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice of Albuquerque.

HERRERA -- Daniel Herrera, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. He is a native son of northern New Mexico and a survivor of the family of original Herrera settlers. He was born, raised, worked and lived in the Espanola/La Mesilla, Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas. His occupation was a heavy equipment operator for the State of New Mexico Highway Department. He was the heart of his large extended family and provided much love and strength to all those in his life. He gave unconditionally of himself to his family, extended families, neighbors, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Quintana Herrera in 1986; his son Robert Herrera in 1989; and his grandson Christopher Herrera in 1996. Daniel was born on December 20, 1914. He is survived by his immediate family Patrick and Rosemary Herrera; grandson Marty Herrera and wife, Gia and family, granddaughters, Debra Rodriguez and Sandra Zielinski; great-granddaughters, Skarlette Zielinski and Krystina Zielinski, Peter and Gloria Herrera, grandson Daniel Herrera, his wife Rachel and their children Susan, Samuel, and Logan Herrera, granddaughter Terri Andres and husband Kirk, Phillip Herrera and grandson Zachary Herrera, Carmella Herrera and granddaughters Anjali Herrera and Monica Herrera, and Kenny Herrera from San Francisco, CA; brother-in-law Frank Quintana; sisters-in-law Rose Quintana and Chris Clark and family from Houston, TX. Many Godchildren, loving nephews, nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces, all of whom he was so thankful for, also survive him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as he was a friend to everyone he met. Daniel participated with his family as a member of the Catholic Community. JORDAN -- Connie Jordan, 57, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, following a long battle with ovarian cancer. Her bravery, courage, and hope through this enormously tough battle, amazed everyone who knew her. She even touched the lives of those who did not personally know her. She is now at peace, and has joined her father, Raymond Lawyer, who preceded her in death, in Heaven. Connie was born in Guthrie, OK, and had lived in Albuquerque since 1960. She is survived by her loving husband of over 36 years, Michael B. Jordan; and loving children, her son Shawn M. Jordan and his wife Shannon, her daughter Shannon M. Chavez and husband Chris. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Lawyer, her brother, Rick Lawyer and life partner Ron Hay, her sisters Judy Morgan, Jan Lucero and husband Larry. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah, Drew, Brianna, Shelby, Joshua, and Christopher. LARRAZOLO -- Michael Paul Larrazolo, 50, passed away December 15, 2008. He attended Eldorado High School. He began his jewelry career when he was 18 as a Silversmith for Kachina Jewelers. He owned his own jewelry business until his health began to fail in 2003. He was preceded in death by his father Barry William Larrazolo in 1991. He is survived by his mother Louise Larrazolo; sons Michael Larrazolo Jr., Joseph Larrazolo and Jacob Larrazolo; granddaughter Lillianna Larrazolo-Gonzales; his sisters Calene Chamblee, Debbie Cueto, and Marie Larrazolo; brothers Joe Larrazolo and David Larrazolo; eight nephews and two nieces. LUCERO -- Patricia Ann Lucero, 38, of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 13, 2008 with family surrounding her. Patricia was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 4, 1970, to Patricio and Eloise Nevarez Torres. She graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1989. Patricia is survived by her husband Julian Lucero; three sons Alexander Lucero, Robert Lucero, Michael Lucero; her father Patricio Torres; sisters Maria Torres of Albuquerque, NM, Emma Diaz and husband Ramon of Maricopa, AZ; brother Salvador Torres and wife Judy of Fairfield, CA; maternal grandmother Concha Mendoza of Reedle, CA; three nieces and six nephews. MANN -- Thomas Richard Mann was born on May 2, 1943, in Rockford, IL and passed away on December 16, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. He was the youngest of three sons born to Robert William and Lora Wallace Mann. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Wallace Mann, his parents-in-law James W. and Mary A. Beattie, his best friend Michial Emery and Mike's daughter Robin. His family, who loved him and will miss him so much, includes his wife of 40 years, Mary E. (Liz), his daughter Kate and son Mike, Mike's wife Carla and two precious granddaughters, Marin and Tatum, and his brother William A. Mann and his family. He is further survived by his employees whom he considered family as well. Tom was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Photogrammetric Engineering. He was a fiercely patriotic US Army and Vietnam veteran, and it was his honor to serve his country so well. He and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1972. He worked at Bohannan Westman Huston for several years and in 1977 he and Liz incorporated Thomas R. Mann and Associates, a photogrammetric engineering firm. Several years later they purchased a Colorado aerial photography firm and formed New Mexico Aerial Surveys. The success of these two companies, which Tom built from the ground up, attests to the integrity of this man who treated everyone honestly and fairly. His great love for his family and friends was frequently expressed in his actions. He was always there for all of us and we are better for all his love and concern. Tom's work was his passion but he also loved to fish for hours or days with his friend Mike or his brother Bill. He also did a lot of hunting when he was younger and never hesitated to tell his fishing and hunting stories to anyone who would listen. Tom's family would like to sincerely thank all the health care professionals who helped him through his courageous battle with cancer. MARRS -- Anthony Marrs. Beloved dad, husband, son, brother, friend. Anthony was a remarkable man who led a remarkable life. He was an intelligent and hardworking man who received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico while working full time so he could better provide for his family. He had an intuitive sense of all things mechanical, a real-life Mr. Fix-It. He was a proud and dedicated father, who coached little league baseball and supported his children in every way he could. He was a patriot, who served in the United States Coast Guard, because of his sense of duty to his country. He was a diligent employee at both Phillips Semiconductors and Emcore, where he did his best to exceed expectations. He was a kind man, a generous man, a lover of music, a comedian with his own brand of humor, a talented artist, a world traveler, an amateur genealogist, an experimental cook, and so much more. MONTOYA -- Fred (Freddy) Montoya Sr., 70, went to be with our Lord on December 12, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Montoya; a daughter, Kathy Roberson and her husband, Hank; two grandsons, Travis and Ethan Roberson; a son, Fred Montoya Jr.; a sister, Bernice Montoya; a brother, Richard Montoya; a special niece, Emily Montoya; two special nephews, Randy and Daniel Montoya; and several relatives and friends. He was proud to have served his country in the Army and the Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Alameda for 35 years. RANCIER -- Jeffrey Roger Rancier, 26, a resident of Albuquerque was killed in a tragic auto accident on Thursday, December 11, 2008. He was traveling to visit family in Colorado. Born in Albuquerque, he attended Montezuma Elementary, Jackson Middle School, Manzano High and Temple Baptist Academy. As a child he loved BMX bikes, playing soccer, and being in the Boy Scouts. Jeffrey was an accomplished photographer who provided all the photography for the recent book "Siegfried Hahn: My Life as an Artist and Teacher." He was an avid outdoorsman who spent many hours in the desert and mountains 4-wheeling and rappelling. He was also an ace snowboarder who taught his little brother, Jack how to snowboard. Jeffrey has worked for Express Scripts, The Great American Steak House, Pro-handyman and most recently, Burkett Construction. Jeffrey married Stephanie Jemison and in 2006, they shared the joy of the birth of their son, Joseph Neil Rancier. Jeffrey is survived by his son, Joseph Neil Rancier; his mother, Jude Splinter of Fruita, Colorado; his father, Jerry Rancier and wife, Christine of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Jason, Justin, and Jack Rancier; aunt, Neva King; uncles, James Rancier and wife Cathy of Las Vegas, NM and George Harper and family of Long Beach, CA; great aunt Lavelle Sandford; cousins, Kristy and Rachel King and Kelly Harper; other relatives; and many friends. Jeffrey was a loving father, son and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. SCHIERMEYER -- Earl Schiermeyer was born on May 4, 1935 in Spokane, WA. Our dear loved one died on Sunday, December 14, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his dear wife Helen of Albuquerque, NM; brother Clyde Schiermeyer of Loomis, CA; sisters Maxine Peters of Rouge River, Oregon and Clara Stone of Jerome, ID; daughter Robin Wisthoff and her husband Kevin, daughter Gwendolyn Frazier, all of Albuquerque, NM; son Nathan Schiermeyer of Oakland, CA; step daughter Halina Leeder and her husband Les of Sequim, WA; grandchildren Anthony and Christina Schiermeyer, Aaron, Angie, and Tina Schiermeyer, all of Tucson, AZ, Rocky and Sarah Schiermeyer of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan and Carrie Wisthoff of Albuquerque, NM, Bradly and Leann Wisthoff of Colfax, CA, Travis and Andrea Wisthoff of McKinney, TX and Davieonn Frazier of Albuquerque, NM. SERNA -- Barbara Wray Serna passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on December 13, 2008 after a brief illness, with her children at her side. She had an abiding faith in God and a boundless love for her family. Barbara was born in Silver City, NM on February 10, 1925 to Leo and Juanita Wray. She is survived by her sisters, Edna Tryon of Woodstock, GA; Eva Clarke of Ruidoso, NM; Amy Werner of South Korea; by her son, David C. Serna of Albuquerque, wife, Patti, children Flor Isabel Serna, Emilia Serna, and Gisele Francisca (Kika) Serna; her son, Richard W. Serna of Nashua, NH, children, Wray Luisa Serna, and Antonio Roberto Serna; her son, Jeffrey P. Serna of Albuquerque, wife, Lupita, children, Renee Escamilla and Lindsey Escamilla; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. C. "Dave" Serna, who served for more than two decades as District Attorney in the Sixth Judicial District; siblings Francisco Lopez; Olga Carbajal; and Leola Alper. Barbara graduated from New Mexico Teacher's College with a Bachelor degree in Education, from Western New Mexico University with a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling, and from the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico, in Mexico City, with a Masters degree in Spanish Literature. Barbara and Dave Serna, who were high school sweethearts, were married in 1951. For most of her career, Mrs. Serna was a popular Spanish teacher at Cobre High School in Bayard, NM. Her husband passed away unexpectedly in 1977, and in 1979, she retired to Albuquerque where she pursued her passion for gardening. She was a certified Master Gardener, recipient of the Horticulturist of the Year award from the New Mexico Garden Clubs in 1987-88, frequently served as a Flower Show Judge at the New Mexico State Fair and elsewhere, and won many top honors at various flower shows over the years. Visitation will begin at 9 o'clock in the morning Saturday December 20, 2008 with a memorial service in celebration of her life to begin at 10 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 3805 Delk Drive, Silver City, to be followed by concluding services and interment at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City.
