ARMIJO -- Fidel Miguel Armijo, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara M. Armijo; daughter, Flora Marie and husband, David Hendren; son, Martin G. Armijo and daughter, Ruth Armijo; grandsons, Eric Hendren and wife, Amanda, and Craig Hendren and wife, Amber; great-grandchildren, Jude, Lauren, and Andreas; brother, Celso Armijo; sisters, Lucia Armijo and Margaret Tanaka. Fidel is survived by many nephews and nieces. A heartfelt thanks to nephews, Sammy and Jerry Barreras and their families, for the constant visits and care they shared. Fidel was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo "Benito" Armijo and Flora Abeyta Armijo; sisters, Andrea, Rosenda, and Catalina. Fidel served in the American, European-African-Middle Eastern and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters. BICKEL -- Mark A. Bickel, 51, of Ocala, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Plattville, WI and moved to Florida in 1999 from Albuquerque, NM. He served his country in the US Army and was a surveyor for many years and then an X-ray technician. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Andrea; brothers Wayne Bickel and his family of Seattle, WA, John Bickel and his family of Beloit, WI and Ken Bickel of Albuquerque, NM; and sisters Carol Snee and her family of Reno, NV and Susan McNabb and her family of Round Mountain, CA. BUCK -- Lura Marshall Buck, age 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, died Thursday December 11, 2008. She is survived by her daughter Elaine of Los Alamos; son Steven of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michael Bell and wife Lisa, Andrea Perrie and husband Alex, and Karl Buck and wife Natalie, all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Lily Buck, Roberto, Indio, and Elena Perez; and 17 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Buck was preceded in death by husband, Major C.W. Buck in January 1997; as well as five siblings. Mrs. Buck was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Funeral Services will be held Monday December 15, 2008, at 12:00 noon, at French Mortuary Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. BURKS -- William F. "Bill" Burks, retired financial executive, Marine and long-time Democratic Party activist, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 10, 2008, of natural causes. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susanne Burks; son, Dr. Randy Burks; daughter, Julie Forbes; five grandchildren; an uncle; two nephews; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ethyl Burks; and brother, Robert. Bill was born June 13, 1930, in Southwest Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1952. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and later was in an Albuquerque reserve unit, retiring as a Colonel. Bill moved with his family to Albuquerque in 1964 and served as president of the Home Savings and Loan Association and later the American Federal Savings and Loan Association. He served on the Federal Home Loan Bank Board of Little Rock for several years in various capacities. He also was named to a new special council of the U.S. League of Savings Association and in 1972 served as president of the New Mexico league. A long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bill was an elder and also served on the church's Endowment Foundation. He had been active in the Albuquerque Press Club, was a devoted Lobo sports fan and served on the board of the NM State Fair. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, December 15, 2008, 1:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE (I-25 at Martin Luther King), with the Rev. CROSS -- Evelyn B. Cross, a 50 year resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Evelyn was born on April 23, 1919 in Pt. Enterprise, TX. She married Clyde Cross (deceased) in 1944 and traveled the world as he pursued a career in the U.S. Army. In 1971 Evelyn returned to the workforce and spent the remainder of her career in property management with the Jack Stahl Company. Evelyn is survived by a loving family and many wonderful friends. She was an amazing woman who was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff of the Woodark at Uptown for their loving care. GALINDRO -- Amada (Amy) Galindro, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away December 10, 2008 with her family at her side. Mrs. Galindro is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Pablo Galindro; children, Lucy Baca and husband, James, Pauline Rodriguez and husband, Mike, Steve Galindro and wife, Laura, Dan Galindro, Mike Galindro and wife, Eva, Tony Galindro and wife, Emily, Lorraine Torres, Margaret Dickson and husband, Frank; sisters, Clara Bachicha and husband, Joe, Bennie Fong; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two on the way; close friend, Wade Young; many other extended family and friends. Mrs. Galindro was a member of the Catholic Church. GALLEGOS -- Manuelita Gallegos, 94 years old, from Vallecitos, New Mexico, went home with the Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. She was born to Ambrosio Martinez and Emilia Maestas all residents of Vallecitos. Mane was preceded in death by her husband Crestino Gallegos; and her two sons Eli and Joe Max Gallegos. She is survived by her family Mary Frances and Carlos Santistevan, Walter Gallegos and Yvonne Gonzales, Lorraine and Sam Baca, Mike and Amanda Gallegos, Sally and Skip Skinner, all from Albuquerque; Benny and Linda Gallegos from Oklahoma; Billy and Elizabeth Gallegos from Flagstaff, AZ, and Charlene and Gary Burriss from Virginia. Mane is also survived by her younger sister Carlotta Jaramillo; and was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Manuelita dearly loved all of her children and grandchildren, and like any matriarch, enjoyed cooking and caring for all of them. She brought love and laughter and great inspiration to her entire family and to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed. GONZALES -- Gilbert A. Gonzales "Gilly", 86, a lifelong resident of Pecos and Albuquerque, went to be among the angels on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ester; children, Eva Lujan of Albuquerque, Captain Anthony J. Gonzales (USN Retired) and wife, Julie of San Diego, CA, and Angeline Maldonado and husband, Kenneth of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Lisa Guevara, Luke Smith, Loyd Smith and wife, Terri , Markus Lujan, Michael Gonzales, AJ Gonzales, Adriana Maldonado, and Mia Maldonado; great-grandchild, Tessa Hernandez; sister, Mary Darr of Mission Viejo, CA; and numerous extended family and friends including Joyce Armijo, Annabell Silva, Juanita Martinez, Tanya Hernandez, Julie Duran, Pat, Tanya, Mark, and Matthew Maldonado, Theresa Giron-Garcia and John Ullom. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura E. Smith of Albuquerque; grandson, Jonathan Gonzales; and sister, Sally King of Santa Fe. Born in Pecos to Jose and Guadalupe Gonzales on June 11, 1922, Gilbert was raised in Pecos and Rowe Mesa. In 1940, he joined the CCC in Santa Fe and was stationed at Conchas Dam and then worked in Colorado and Arizona performing defense work. He joined the Navy in 1942 and proudly served during World War II with the Naval Armed Guard located in the South Pacific, Caribbean, North Atlantic, and Mediterranean Seas. After World War II, he married Ester Mondragon of Denver, CO, and worked in Albuquerque as a plumbing and paint contractor. He then joined Civil Services with Sandia Base Engineers only to return back to the Navy to bravely serve in the Korean War while on the USS Los Angeles. Once his service was completed, he returned to Albuquerque to work again with Sandia Base Engineers and paint contracting. He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing his guitar, and was an active member of the VFW Chapter 401 and DAV. In 1975, he retired to Pecos to enjoy his wife, ranch, and animals. He returned to Albuquerque in 2005 to spend his last years surrounded by his family. Gilbert was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandpa. He never met a stranger and had many friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed. The Rosary will be recited Sunday, December 14, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr SW. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, December 15, 2008, 9:00 a.m., also at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Gino Correa, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m., in Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be Luke Smith, Markus Lujan, Michael Gonzales, AJ Gonzales, John Ullom, and Eddie King. GUFFEY -- Bruce Edwin Guffey, 82, a resident of NM since 1957, died December 2, 2008 at his home. He was born in Southland, Nebraska on November 7, 1926 to Edwin and Esther Guffey. Although he was born in Nebraska, Guffey was raised in El Paso, Texas where he joined the US Navy and served proudly during WWII. Upon his return he enrolled in the University of Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry. Guffey was a jack of all trades and entrepreneur for awhile until he went to work for Mountain Bell where he retired after 22 years of service in Roswell, Clovis, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. Most importantly, Guffey was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Guffey; eight children; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a member of Toastmasters, an active political advocate, loved outdoor and water sports and lived to play golf. HAGER -- Frank Hager was born in Pilot Point, Texas on Thursday, November 1, 1928, All Saint's Day, and though he wasn't a saint in every sense of the word, he was a true saint to his family and friends. He passed away on Monday evening, December 8, 2008. He spent most of his early years in Oklahoma, and moved to Dumas, Texas, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Dru Brown. Their relationship has endured for over sixty years. They moved to Albuquerque in 1949 and started their own business, Hager Lawn Sprinkler. After a seven year period spent in South Carolina where Frank worked on the Savannah River Project, they returned to Albuquerque in 1959 to resume with the irrigation company. Over the years many parks, schools, and golf courses including UNM South were watered with systems installed by Frank's company. They lived in Farmington for a number of years where Frank worked on the power plants. On their return to Albuquerque he designed and built Roll'n Home Park which has flourished for thirty five years. Frank was active in many community organizations especially the Ballut Abyad Shrine where he was a member and captain of the Shrine Patrol and on the Fez Club Committee. He enjoyed driving the old fire truck in recent years. He was also Hospital Chairman for 20 years and coordinated mini-clinics for crippled children and arranged travel for many to the Los Angeles Shrine Hospital for free treatment. He was a member of the Board of Directors of that hospital for eight years. He was a member of the Shriners of North America, the Masonic Lodge Temple 60, the Royal Order of Jesters, the Albuquerque Rotary Club, and the New Mexico Pipe Trades Local 412. He was also a lifelong Democrat and supporter of the party. Frank is survived by wife, Dru; three children, Noel Hager and wife, Susan, Renee Claffy, and Brent Hager and wife, Kim; grand children, Gina Sims and husband, Scott, Cara Claffy, Evan Hager and wife, Sovereign, Todd and Sarah Hager, Bonnie and Lexi Hager; great-grandchildren, Zach, Ava and Grant Sims. Also surviving are Frank's sisters, Movis Butler and Collette Hager. Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was generous and helpful to one and all. He will be greatly missed. HAMPTON -- Marcelle (Quita) Blakemore October 15, 1928 - December 10, 2008 Marcelle (Quita) Blakemore Hampton died December 10, 2008 in Farmington, New Mexico. Her husband of 28 years, Robert G. Hampton, preceded her in 1995 in Albuquerque. Born to Winston and Esther H. Blakemore on October 15, 1928 in El Paso, Texas. She attended University of Texas El Paso, New Mexico State University, and University of New Mexico. She was a member of PEO sisterhood Chapter AW in Albuquerque and active in numerous organization thoughout her life. She is survived by four daughters, Catherine E. Silva and Marci (Wes) Williams, San Deigo, California; Earleen B. Sullivan and Kelly H. Sullivan and partner Lester Maitlen, Aztec, New Mexico. Three grandchildren are R. Danell (David) Zawaski of Austin, Texas, Mindy B. (Brian) Roman; with great-grandsons, Brock and Brandt, Pueblo, Colorado; Montie Arnold, Olympia, Washington. Her brother-in-law, John L. Maj. Gen. Ret. Martin, resides in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her sister Betty Martin. Niece is Teri Martin; nephew is John L Martin III; and grand-niece, Melissa Martin. She attended St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, Albuquerque and St. John Episcopal Church, Farmington. LEHRMAN -- G. Philip Lehrman, PhD., 82 of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 after a short illness. He was born November 28, 1926. Phil was the retired Assistant Dean of the College of Pharmacy at UNM. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Natalie; sons, Philip Lehrman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Paul Lehrman of Farmington, New Mexico and Peter Lehrman of Albuquerque; daughters-in-law, Sherrie Smith and Kathleen Kennedy; and grandchildren, Philip, Jaclyn and Jessica. Phil was born in New York City, and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, earned a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and worked in the pharmaceutical industry before becoming a professor. MARTINEZ -- Domie L. Martinez, born in Encino, NM on April 4, 1933, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008, in Albuquerque after a long battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Teodora Lucero. She is survived by her dear friend, Al Schnoebelen; sons, Furley, Johnny, Pete, and Gary Paul; daughter, Patricia Ramsay and husband, Jack; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Anderson, and Taylor; former husband of 38 years, John O. Martinez; sisters, Elvira Pena and husband, Albert, and Mary Carrasco; and other family and friends who loved her and will miss her. STABLEFORD -- Vernon Guy Stableford, 57, a resident of Tijeras, lost his battle with brain cancer on Thursday, December 11, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Stableford; son, Adam Stableford and wife Kristina; daughter, Amber Brokaw and husband Josh; mother, Barbara Erwin and husband Bill; brother, William Stableford; sister, Patricia L'Amie and husband Bill; nephew, Bryan Benson.; and numerous other loving family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Vernon was born in Kingman, AZ, on February 1, 1951, and was raised in Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas, before moving to Albuquerque in 1971. He was an automation engineer with Intel, working many years in the computer industry, previously with Singer, Modcomp, Kemtah, and Hewlett Packard. Vernon's hobbies included computers, bowling, and his model airplanes and trains. He was a longtime member of Mountainside Church of Christ, where he served many years as a deacon and teacher. WARRICK -- Robert "R.C." Warrick, 19, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 with his family by his side. R.C. is survived by his parents, Robert G. Warrick and Christine E. Lawson; sisters, Shannon A. Warrick and Noel N. Warrick; grandparents, Loretta & Gene Slipek, Bob & Donna Warrick, and Carolyn & Kenney Hall; uncle Larry Garcia; cousin, Zak Garcia; aunt Barbara Harris and family, aunt Debbie Campagnola and family and uncle Johnny Buffalow and family;and many friends and others who have been touched by the miracle of his life.
