DABBS -- Roy Wayne Dabbs - "Wayne" lost a long, hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, October 17, 2008. Wayne was born to George and Sarah Dabbs on October 25, 1939 in the farming community south of Truth or Consequences, NM. His parents, a brother Gerald and his sister Leatha, precede him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Irene. Three daughters, Natalie and husband Bryan, Ronda and husband Mark and Shelly and husband Tommy. He was also the very proud "Grandpapa" to six wonderful grandchildren. Adam and Amanda Emerson of Texas, Michael Barger, Kaitlyn, Zachary and Kassidy Emerson-Dabbs all of Los Lunas. Also close family friends Nolan, Linda, and William Hammack. He grew up in Sierra County working on the farm with his family and learning all the secrets of catching the "Big One" at near by Elephant Butte Lake. He moved with his family to Arizona before entering the US Marine Corps at the age of 19. He proudly served his country actively for four years. Following his Honorable discharge he returned to the T. or C., NM area where he met and married the love of his life. Wayne and Irene were married the summer of 1963 and lovingly cared for each other for 45 years. Wayne was a wonderful husband and a terrific father. He raised his daughters by teaching them all the things that they would ever need to know to be successful. He was lucky enough to enjoy many of the wonderful hunting and fishing treasures that NM has to offer. Wayne could learn to do anything. He worked in many fields before he began working as a Correctional Officer at Central NM Correction Center, a job that he retired from in 2002. Following his retirement he and Irene traveled anytime they could and enjoyed spoiling their Grandchildren. Wayne loved to fish. He could patiently fish for hours waiting for the "Big One" and he caught many of them because of that patience. He enjoyed bank fishing and trolling, but he loved to run a trotline. There were many nights that he faithfully woke us all up ever couple of hours all night long to go and check the lines. We know that is what he's busy doing every night now, and he's enjoying every minute. The family would like to thank all the people who helped both Wayne and Irene during his illness. A Celebration of his Life will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 1:00 in the afternoon at Grace Fellowship in Los Lunas, NM. A reception will follow at the church.
