BETTS -- Wilma Patricia Betts, also known fondly as Babe, of 5800 Glenda Court NW. Albuquerue NM, was born in Chicago, IL on February 7 1929 has passed away in her sleep on September 5 2008. She was preceded in death by her first born Robert Betts, is survived by daughters, Willetta and Alene Betts; grandsons, Gary Coffin, Thomas and Daniel Betts; stepson, Tony Richter; and older sister, Evelyn Stanek. Wilma moved to Albuquerque in 1971 where she pursued her college degree and graduated from UNM. She then worked at Presbyterian Hospital during which she opened her own home based medical transcription company that she continued to run for many years even after she retired from her more than 25 years of employment at Presbyterian Hospital. Wilma Betts was the type of person who touched everyone that had the privilege to meet her. The world has lost a beautiful loving, giving human being. BONEY -- Joe E. Boney. October 18, 1918 to September 6, 2008. Joe Boney, 89, long time Waco resident, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Lakeshore Village. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Waco Memorial Park with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Boney was born in Strawn, Texas to Joe Aaron and Ruby Martha (Harris) Boney. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He married Caroline F. Fernandez May 8, 1944 in Yuma, Arizona. Joe was a longtime member of St. Louis Catholic Church, was a player agent for the Northern Little League, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow and Boy Scouts of America. Joe retired from Glazier Wholesale Company after 25 years as a salesperson. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Buster Boney; and sister, Opal Stanford. Joe is survived by his wife; three sons, Patrick Boney and wife, Cindy of Bruceville, Michael Boney and wife, Amber of Hewitt, and Timothy Boney and wife, Daniella of Germany; and grandsons, Cory, Matt, and Aaron.

DEGROAT -- Mark DeGroat, 56, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008. He is survived by his mother, Kay DeGroat; brother, Tim DeGroat; sisters, Wendy Noren and husband, Gene, Sue "Tootie" Wenzel; nieces and nephews, Travous, Tanell, Jade, Kayla, Mandy, Dane, Renee and Phil; great-nieces and great-nephews, Josh, Hunter, Makyla and Sammy; and several other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Will DeGroat; and brother, Ken DeGroat. Mark was a great uncle and mentor to his nieces and nephews. He was also a good brother and friend. GARRISON -- Marie Garrison, a resident of Edgewood, NM, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 after a long illness. GREGOIRE-SCARIANO -- Judith Gregoire, formerly Judith Scariano, 45, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Scariano of Albuquerque; ex-husband, John Scariano of Albuquerque; mother, Gloria Roubik of West Allis, WI; two brothers, David and Steven Gregoire, both of Wisconsin; and one sister, Susan Gregoire of Chicago, IL. Judy graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1985. She was a frequent contributor and featured artist at the Harwood Center in Albuquerque. HAY -- James "Jim" A. Hay, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque for 63 years, went to be with our Lord on September 6, 2008. He was born July 9, 1916, in Racine, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Lucille M. (Reiter) Hay; his parents, James A. Hay, Sr. and Grace A. (Arnold) Hay; one sister Mary J. (Hay) Loomis and one brother, Robert S. Hay Jr. He is survived by his children, Jim L. Hay and his wife, Barbara; Gerry Jewell and her husband, Bob; Jane Vance; eight grandchildren, Mike (Robin) Hay, Mark (Carrie) Hay, Laurie Hay, Bobby (Sylvia) Jewell, Tommy (Mindy) Jewell, Lisa Jewell, and friend David Durbin and Savannah, Chad Vance and Crickett Vance Cannady (Devin); 12 great grandchildren, Trevor and Brendan Hay, Courtney, Sydnee, Kylie, and Lexi Hay, Ashton and Braden Jewell, Paige, Zach and Sara Jewell and Reese Cannady; and a new one due in December; two sisters, Grace F. (Hay) Blitzblau and Jeanie (Hay) Clifton; two brothers, Bill Hay and Jack Hay; and many nieces and nephews and their spouses and families; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. He graduated from high school in Rochelle, Illinois in 1934. Jim and his family moved to Albuquerque in March 1945 for better health. He was a machinist for Sandia National Laboratories from 1951 to 1973. One of his proud moments was that he machined parts that were sent to the moon. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs fan! His three children will forever remember him as a great father, grandfather, machinist, role model, and a man that loved his country. He will be dearly missed by his loving family. Services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, officiating Rev. Perry Floyd. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. ORTEGA -- Raquel "Nana Rachel" Ortega, 92, born in Veguita, NM and a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM died on September 2, 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents, Patrocinio and Sofia Lopez; husband, Tircio; sister Frances and brothers, Herman, Eutimio and Vidal Lopez. She is survived by her sister, Adelaida "Lala" Carrillo; sister-in-law, Cecilia Lopez; niece, Evelyn Montano and husband, Isidro; nephew, Benjamin Lopez and wife, Priscilla; four special great nieces, Patricia, Carolyn, Roberta and Rachel Lopez; great, great nephew, Joesyah (Nana's champion) Balderrama-Lopez; great-great niece, Stacy (Nana's Beautiful) Balderrama; great niece and nephew, Phillip and Emily Vigil; and Seve Campos whom she loved like her own great nephew. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Raquel was a longtime member of St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. In her earlier years, Nana loved working in her garden and tending to her rose bushes and apricot tree. PACE -- George Edward Pace was born in San Francisco, CA on April 28, 1939. George attended the University of Santa Clara, graduating with an engineering degree in 1962. He attained the rank of captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers and upon completion of his military duties began his civilian career with McKenzie Construction Company in Reno, Nevada in 1964. He was a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in the states of Nevada and Pennsylvania and a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers. George came to Kirtland AFB in 1993 with the closure of the Ballistic Missile Office in California. George held various engineering positions in the US and abroad, and was most recently Chief Engineer for Cooperative Threat reduction Program in the 1990's. He was the recipient of Meritorious Civilian Service, Exemplary Civilian Service and Outstanding Civilian Service Medals for his work in the Former Soviet Union from 1993 to 1999. He was also presented with the Outstanding Air Force Civilian of the Year Award at the time of his retirement in 2000. He is survived by Judith Pace, his wife of 46 years and their three children, Mary A. Lovingfoss RN, of Redlands, CA, George A. Pace RN of Long Beach, CA and Major Joseph E. Pace of Fort Belvoir, VA; a brother, Paul S. Pace PLS of Sparks, NV; and four grandchildren, Mary A. Lovingfoss, Maxime Pace, Eric Pace, and Aruni Merle Pace. QUINTANA -- Gloria (Crollett Vouterin) Quintana, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend completed her journey on earth and went to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Gloria was born February 28, 1927 in a house built by her grandparents, Serferino and Christina Crollett, on the corner of 4th and Cromwell Street SW. Her grandparents moved to the Barelas area from Old Town in the early 1900's. Serferino and his sons founded the Crollett Mortuary on 2nd Street NW. Gloria is the daughter of Theresa Vouterin Hernandez and Phillip Vouterin, Sr. who migrated from Manari, Tripoli, Greece. She attended Sacred Heart School, St. Vincent's Academy and graduated from Spanish American Normal School (El Rito) in 1945. She later graduated from Western School for Secretaries. She had various secretarial jobs before she was an employee with the Air Force Weapons Lab at KAFB. She retired January of 1988 from Field Command DNA after 26 years of service. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Christine Vouterin; aunts, Jennie Cordova and Carrie Crollett; special aunt, Josephine "Lala" Crollett; uncles, Fred, Henry and Louie Crollett and their spouses; stepfather, Eleazar C. Hernandez, all of Albuquerque. She leaves to cherish her memory forever her husband, Elias "Neffie" Quintana, Sr., her high school sweetheart whom she married August 31, 1947; her twin sons, Johnny and Joey Quintana of Albuquerque; sons, Elias Quintana, Jr. of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Kenny, Michael and David Quintana all of Albuquerque; daughters, Phyllis Bopp and husband, Brian, of Midlothian, Texas, Patricia McDonald and husband, Rudy, of Albuquerque; sister, Josephine Hernandez-Fevig and husband, Ralph, of Albuquerque; brother, Phillip Vouterin, Jr. of Albuquerque; nieces, Sharon Whitaker-Martinez of Roswell, Stephanie Fevig of Denver, CO, Natalie Fevig of Brooklyn, NY; nephew, David Fevig of Albuquerque; numerous relations in Espanola, NM and California; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. RICHINS -- Cassandra Auguste Richins, 22, of Albuquerque, NM passed away on September 5, 2008, in Wisconsin. She was known to her family as "Cassy" and the friends as "Drea". She is survived by her parents, Tim and Sandra O'Rear of Albuquerque and Richard and Pamela Richins of Morenci, AZ; siblings, Holly and Cody Richins of Albuquerque, Shasta and husband, Kyle Doubek of Albuquerque, Jared O'Rear of Las Cruces and Pammy Richins of Morenci; grandparents, Jack and LuDene Nelson of Cuba, NM, and Mel and Jan Richins of Animas, NM; and her niece, Mackenzie of Albuquerque. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Beth Richins of Animas, NM. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She left behind a list of friends too numerous to name. Cassy was born January 18, 1986, in Orem, Utah. She attended school in Animas, NM, Las Cruces, NM and started the 7th grade at McKinnley Middle School in Albuquerque. She graduated in 2004 from Del Norte High School. While attending Del Norte she was a cheerleader, a member of the cross-country team, Baseball manager, Key Club, and was a member of the Knights of the Round Table. She attended NMSU, where she became a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She had worked the last few years as a waitress and took classes when she could in Albuquerque. She wanted to be a nurse. She had recently moved to Wisconsin. Cassy had a smile that would light up a room as soon as she walked in. She had a kind, forgiving heart and was always willing to give everyone a second chance. She had a special place in her heart for the veteran biker community, especially the members of "F-Troop". She called many of them her family. It was said shortly after her passing that everyone liked her, as she grew up and met new people she never forgot the ones she had already known. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. SANCHEZ -- Ricardo David Sanchez, 33, of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Ricardo is survived by his wife, Irene; his four children, daughters, Alliah, Elianna, Elena, and son, Joseph "Jo Jo"; mom, Helena; sisters, Tanya, Bobbie Jo, Nicole with husband, Gary; nephews, Anthony, Christopher, Joshua; nieces, Brianna, Mely, and Mikeyla. Ricardo was an awesome cook who had a big heart, made people laugh and protected the people he loved. He always put others needs in front of his own, and was the support of everyone he knew. VER PLOEGH -- Howard Ver Ploegh, 88, a resident of Corrales, NM passed away on September 6, 2008. Mr. Ver Ploegh is survived by his son, Jim Ver Ploegh and wife, Mary (Lonnie); his daughter, Laura White Heckman and husband, Burt; his brother, Ed Ver Ploegh and wife, Carol; his sister-in-law, Verlene Ver Ploegh; his grandchildren, Francesca Ver Ploegh, Mark Ver Ploegh, Brian Ver Ploegh and girlfriend, Brandi; Lange Heckman and wife, Erin, Chad Heckman and Derek Heckman; and many other extended family members. Howard was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate, June Arlene; his brothers Russell and Raymond; and his sister in law, Helen and husband, Ike. Howard was owner and operator of Farmers Feed and supply store on North 4th, he was a teacher of Math and Sciene in the Public Schools and he had a love of sailing.
