FIERRO -- Mary Fierro, 68, our beloved mother, passed away on September 4, 2007 surrounded by her five children. Mary was raised in Santa Fe, NM where she also brought up her children. She moved to Albuquerque in 1986 with her belated husband, Eloy Fierro. She worked as a CNA for 35 years and, therefore, was very thankful and pleased with hospice as they graciously helped care for her until she went home to her Lord Jesus Christ. Our mother will be greatly missed and thought of daily by those who love her. She was a great example of perseverance, strength and hard work to her children. She opened her home to those in need where there was frequent, happy activity always going on. Her laughter and jokes will be remembered by all who were blessed by her presence. Mary is survived by her children, Cathy Dupuy and husband, Mark, Helen Bachicha and husband, Marty, Linda Weyeneth and husband, Dennis, Tina Kelisek and husband, Jirka, and Steve Rodriguez and wife, Paula; she had 11 grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by three siblings, Nellie Avila, Leo Lucero and wife, Bea, and Esther Carey. Visitation will take place on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wyoming Blvd. Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Service. FLORES -- Orlando Rene Flores, 43, expired on Friday, August 31, 2007. Mr. Flores was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield for many years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; four children, Orlando Rene, Jr. (23), Mary Margaret (7), Sally Rene (5), and Michael Rene (4); his parents, Sam and Mary Flores; nine siblings, Richard, Bobby Ortiz, Dolores Vigil, Bella Aragon, Jimmy Flores, Katherine Flores, Cecilia Flores, Sammy Flores, Teresa Esquivel, Racheal Sanchez, Leo and Alfred Morris; eight aunts; ten uncles; 32 nieces and nephews; and 24 grand-nieces and -nephews; mother-in-law, Sally Gallosa; sister-in-law, Sally Ann Gallosa; brother-in-law, Richard Gallosa; and countless cousins and friends. The Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee. Mass will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven. FRANCIS -- Shirlee E. Francis, age 87, passed away on September 1, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to Charles and Florence Rock in Wooster, OH on March 12, 1920. Shirlee was a long standing member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, she was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. Shirlee is survived by her daughter, Lisa Wolfe-Vito and husband, Frank of Rio Rancho, NM; three grandchildren, Justin, Jason, and Danielle Wolfe; one brother, Bob Hodge; two sisters, Jean Falvo and husband, John of Canton, OH and Joan Gerber and husband, Russell of Wooster, OH. She is also survived by a special niece, Jerry Teresi; and a special cousin, Joseph Teresi of Albuquerque, NM; and a great-nephew, Jesse Tucker. Shirlee was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Francis. The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be on Thursday, September 6, 2007, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd Chapel. FREY -- EUGENE WALTER Lt. Col. (Ret.) USAF, Eugene (Gene) Walter Frey, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, peacefully passed away on August 26, 2007 and is now in the arms of our Lord. Gene was many things to many people but foremost a man who loved God was dedicated to his wife and family and loyal to his friends. The saying 'he never met a stranger' surely applied as often times he would stop and chat because everyone had a story and a value. Gene had a special wit and was always welcoming of new friends and acquaintances. Gene was born in Canton, Ohio on September 5, 1931. He spent his childhood in Canton and graduated from McKinley High School. He received his Engineering degree at the University of Cincinnati, his BS degree in Meteorology from the University of Chicago and completed his Masters degrees at the University of Michigan. He married Janice Mulheim in 1952 and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together. Gene proudly served in the United States Air Force as a meteorologist and engineer for 24 years. Following his retirement in 1978, he continued in the engineering field with the University of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Jan of Albuquerque; son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Nancy of Michigan; grandson, Ben of Georgia, granddaughter, Hannah of Michigan; daughter, Laura of Oklahoma; son, John of Washington D.C.; brother, Denver; sister, Lois; sister-in-law, Joan Rupert; brother-in-law, Don Mulheim and wife, Barb all of Ohio and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever miss him. Dad, if love could have kept you, you would still be here with us. GUSTAFSON -- Louise Roos Gustafson, age 83, born in Paton, IA, died September 4, 2007 at home in Rio Rancho after years of protracted illness. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James M. Gustafson; four children, Karl and wife, Katherine of Somerville MA, Greta Roskom and husband, Michael of Rio Rancho, John R. Gustafson and beloved Radha Denmark of Albuquerque, and Birgitta Gustafson of Colorado Springs; by six grandchildren, Amber West of Albuquerque, Erik Gustafson of Rome, Italy, Mark Gustafson of Toronto, Ontario, Aliya and Laila Mehdi of Colorado Springs, and Kipp Roskom of Rio Rancho; and a brother, C. Theodore Roos of Chicago. HERRERA -- Ann Herrera, 57, passed away with her loving family at her bedside on Monday, September 3, 2007. She is survived by her father, Perfecto Herrera; two daughters, Suzanne Herrera and husband, Ralphie Martinez, and Shawntell Herrera; one grandson, Sammy Herrera; one brother, George Herrera; nieces, Julie Glass and husband, Don, Jonell Sanchez and husband, William Duran, Jenee' Chin and husband Brian; great-nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Jaselynn, Julianna, Jacob, Victoria, Isabella, and Mateo. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cecilia Herrera. Ann was a loving mother, Nana, and aunt. She touched many hearts throughout her life and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. HIGGINS -- MARY RISING Love and Respect for Mary Rising Higgins, innovative poet and former public school teacher, born February 29, 1944 and passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007, from complications of breast cancer. She taught 25 years in Albuquerque Public Schools, becoming a master teacher in 1993. After retiring from teaching in 1995, she focused on a second career as a poet. In less than a decade she published six books of poems. Family, friends, and poets are grieving the loss of Mary Rising Higgins, who was well loved and respected by all who knew her. Her daughter and granddaughters found her gentle, generous, and loving. She also influenced many twenty-first century poets, who found her work adventuresome and innovative. Universities across the United States are currently using her publications in teaching their classes: University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, University of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Columbia University in New York City, and California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Mary Rising was born in Minnesota, the fourth child of Lucille Grace and Forrest Raymond Rising. She attended Napa College in California. Mary earned both a B.S. degree in 1970 and an M.A. in English (with distinction) in 1988 at the University of New Mexico. She married Joe Frank Higgins in 1964. Mary is survived by her daughter, Heidi Higgins Armijo; two granddaughters, Felicia Madeline Higgins Chavez and Jesslyn Grace Armijo, both of Albuquerque; and two brothers, Robert Rising and Ronald Rising, both of Minnesota. A Celebration of Life and Poetry, will take place at Mary's home on Saturday afternoon, September 8, 2007. A reunion and remembrance of Mary's beautiful voice has been planned by the Napa High School/ Junior College Choir, to take place later in the fall of 2007. HOGAN -- Howard, born on July 17, 1910 passed away on August 25, 2007 at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl of 62 years marriage. The Hogans moved to NM in 1945 and lived the past 12 years in T or C, NM. Howard was in the car business and also enjoyed a fun life including, dancing, bowling, fishing and playing cards with family and friends. He is survived by sisters, Mary and Louise and a brother, Robert of Illinois; a son, James Owens of Colorado Springs, CO and a daughter, Betty Lou Miller of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Deborah Cain and husband, Andy, Peggy Deming and husband, Carl of Colorado Springs, CO, Janice Railey and Jay Miller of Albuquerque; David Miller and wife, Brenda of T or C, NM, Patti Ellingworth and husband, Jim of Kennewick, WA; also 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Cremation was performed by Kirikos Mortuary in T or C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Lung Association.
