GURNSEY -- Lucille (DeVaney) Gurnsey, 81, a long time resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 1, 2007. Before moving to Albuquerque, Lucille spent much of her life living in Mountainair and Edgewood, New Mexico, respectively. Lucille had a vibrant personality and had devoted beliefs in God and in her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed a lifestyle that involved the mountains, an avid love for deer, and a devotion to helping others both within her family and in her community in times of need and in times of celebration. She is survived by her daughter, Darla Jean Ross, and her husband, Lawrence Robert Ross; her son, Tommy Leo DeVaney, and his wife, Lavonne; her grandchildren, James Donald DeVaney, Sharlene Michelle Ross, and Ryan Eugene Ross, and Ryan's wife, Sara. Lucille also leaves behind her great-granddaughter, Kathryn Autumn Rose Ross. Lucille was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ann and John P. Farmer; her mother, Elva Schuessler, and her father, Homer Robison; her brother, H. E. Robison, and his wife, Johnnie Mae; her brother, Leo Schuessler; her sister, Louise Ellison; and two grandsons, Jason Edmund Ross and Thomas Vaughn DeVaney. Lucille was born in Mountainair, New Mexico, on June 15, 1926. She faced many battles throughout her life, and she could attest to many trials and tribulations along the way. A battle with cancer would soon end her life, though the caring staff at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, did all they could to try to save her life, then lessen the hardship that comes with passing away; their help deserved such respect. Before her passing, she was conscious to the world she was living in, and the world that evolved around her. She looked forward to reuniting with her family and her grandchildren in Heaven. Lucille passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 1, 2007. The family has set up a viewing for the evening of Tuesday, November 6, 2007, to be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, also at French Mortuary, at 10:00 a.m. Following the funeral services, Lucille will be laid to rest in Mountainair, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all gifts be of donation form to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Lorraine West, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, 87111. Any money given to the family members in respect to Lucille will also be donated in such manner. Lucille would have found more heart in a gesture that would allow others a fighting chance at life. Lucille is in our blessings, and in the arms of our Lord, and savior. Amen. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333 www.frenchmortuary.com
