QUINTANA -- Lucy Quintana, born and raised in La Puebla, NM on April 9, 1940, to Marcela M. and Antonio Quintana, passed away on October 15, 2007, in Albuquerque, NM after a long illness. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents, Ramoncita Esquibel Quintana and Blas Quintana who raised her after Lucy's mother died in 1942, and brother, Isidoro Quintana. Lucy is survived by her loving daughter, Mabel Quintana; her brothers and sisters, Estolia Martinez (Jose) from Chimayo, NM, Cornelia Deaguaro (Elifar) from Cuarteles, NM, Angie Romero (Sam) from Albuquerque, NM, Julian Quintana (Hazel) from Sombrillo, NM, Lorraine Archuleta (Jerry) from Santa Fe, NM, and Esperanza Quintana Bachman, and Albert Quintana from La Puebla, NM; sister-in-law, Frances Quintana from Minturn, Colorado; stepsister, Rose (Louie) Romero; and step-mother, Elizaida Quintana; many loving nieces and nephews; special friends, Phyllis and Lawrence Salazar, Lucy Sanchez; and many of Mabel's dear friends who treated Lucy like their own mother. Lucy attended Santa Cruz High School in Santa Cruz, NM before moving to Albuquerque in 1960. She will be missed by all. Memorial Services for Lucy will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, located on Third and Lead. ROMERO -- Manuel John Romero III, 39 years old, born July 23, 1968, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2007. Preceded in death by father, Manuel Romero Jr.; grandfathers, Manuel Romero, Juan Medina; and grandmother, Rachel Romero. Survived by mother, Joan Romero; grandmother, Julia Medina; wife, Angela Romero and children, Manuel Romero IIII, Jasper, Keisha, Leandro of Pueblo, CO; brothers, Frank (Lee), Carlos (Linda) Nick (Delphina), Linda (Frank); Godchildren: Veronica, Leah, Antonia; and numerous aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. SANCHEZ -- Mary Lou Sanchez, 54, born February 1, 1953, passed away October 14, 2007 of a sudden illness. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Matilda Sanchez; her grandmother, Mercedes Padilla; and her father, Juan B. Sanchez. Marylou is survived by her mother, Nicolasa Sanchez; her sons, Fredrick and Antonio Acosta; their father, Cruz Antonio Acosta; and adopted son, James Mashburn and family; brothers, Leroy, Johnny, and Gabriel; sisters, Lucinda, Sylvia, Julia, and Gloria. A viewing will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Barcelona SW on Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 5-6 p.m. with church Services immediately following. She will be laid to rest on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

SANDOVAL -- Eduardo Antonio "Pompo" Sandoval went home on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the age of 89. Mr. Sandoval was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II, an ex-prisoner of war, and a Bataan Death March survivor. He was also a member of the VFW. Mr. Sandoval was preceded in death by his grandson, Jerry F. Sandoval. He is survived by his daughter, caretaker, and his angel, Becky Sandoval; sons, Bobby Sandoval, Jerry Sandoval and wife, Rose, Roland Sandoval; brothers, Juan and Jesus; sisters, Lupe and Vickie; granddaughter and goddaughter, Heather and husband, Sam Salazar; grandchildren, Michael Sandoval and Berna Sandoval; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brandy, Jerriana, Mercedes and Alyssa. Visitation for Mr. Sandoval will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church. Funeral Services for Mr. Sandoval will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 also at St. Therese Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Sandoval, Louis Garcia, Albert Duran, Sam Salazar, Vincent Vigil, and Bobby Torres. Honorary pallbearer will be Joshua Anthony Salazar. SAUNDERS -- Tania Marie Saunders, age 18, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 at UNM Hospital. Tania was born on March 27, 1989 in Albuquerque, NM. She is the beloved daughter of Paulina (Baca) Saunders, originally of Belen, NM and presently from Albuquerque, NM; and Patrick Saunders, presently from Tijeras, NM. She is survived by her brother, Jesse Saunders, age 9; her maternal grandparents Virginia and DG Baca of Belen, NM; her paternal grandparents, Patricia and Richard Saunders of Roseburg, OR; aunts and uncles, Sandy Montes and Wendy Saunders, Dorothy Koenig, Richard and Carolyn Baca, Tony and Patsy Baca, Mark Baca, Annette and John Gonzales, Diane and Pete Eggler, Roxanne and Lar Thomas and Greg Baca; many cousins and friends. Tania will be sadly missed by all! Tania was a 2007 graduate of Manzano High School and a freshman at UNM in the Engineering program. She was active in skiing, snowboarding, photography and traveling. She recently traveled to Europe with her cousins. She had a ready smile and a kind word for everyone. Her greatest joy was the times she spent with her family and friends. She loved her cat, Ella, "her miracle kitty". A Celebration of Tania's life will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. SHERWOOD -- Samuel Ferguson Sherwood, born in Danville, IL on January 20, 1920, died peacefully on October 13, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. Sam spent his childhood in Indianapolis, IN where he and his wife, Maxine, raised their children. After their children grew up, they moved to El Paso, TX, and then retired to Albuquerque, NM. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maxine; and their four children, Robert Sherwood and wife, Lillias of Barrie, Ontario, Canada, Catherine Sherwood and husband, Ron Gaudia of Albuquerque, NM, Ann Hamze and husband, Issami of Greenville, NC, and Elizabeth Kubie and husband, Jim of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny. Known as Grandsam to his seven grandchildren, DeWitt Mahaney, Nick Arenella, Jessica Arenella, Samara Hamze, Safa Hamze, Noura Hamze, Jacob Kubie; and five great-grandchildren, Sam was an exceptionally kind and gentle man who touched the lives of those he encountered. After graduating from Harvard in 1941, he served in the U.S. Navy until 1945. He went to the Naval Academy Post Graduate school in Annapolis, MD and then served in the Pacific as a meteorologist. After the War, Sam went on to work in a variety of executive capacities including president and CEO of several Midwestern coal mining companies, including Central Indiana Coal Company, Sherwood Templeton Coal Company, Little John Coal Company, Antioch Power, Stonefort Coal Company, and Calvert and Youngblood Coal Company. He was particularly proud of serving as the president of Galesburg and Great Eastern Railroad. He served on the board of the National Coal Association and served a term as Chairman of the Bituminous Coal Research, Inc. Later in his career he was Vice President of El Paso Coal Company. Sam was also heavily involved in a multitude of volunteer organizations. In Indianapolis, he was a founding member and served as president of the Contemporary Art Association. He also served on the board and was president for 1 term of Tudor Hall School for girls. While in El Paso, Sam served as an elder on the Session of the University Presbyterian Church. Sam served 6 years on the Albuquerque Museum Foundation board. He was an active member of the Albuquerque chapter of SCORE. He was a volunteer tutor at Menaul School and also volunteered for Job Corps. He served on the board of the Cottonwood Gulch and was a member of Rotary Club. Through his many associations and activities, Sam had innumerable friends and peers that will fondly remember him for his caring and generous nature. Burial will be in Valhalla, NY. SIMMONS -- Captain Barry Clayton Simmons Retired On October 12, 2007, Captain Barry C. Simmons went to be with the Lord. He passed away at home after a short illness. He was born on May 30, 1941, in Reidsville, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his father, Basil LaClaire Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Linda Baker Simmons; Mother, Victoria Maybell Simmons of Lexington, NC; Brothers, Kaye Simmons of Tazewell, VA; Dale Simmons of Lexington, NC: Sisters: Shirley Rummage and husband, Larry, also of Lexington, NC, and Donna Darrh and husband, Mike, of Mr. Airy, NC. He is also survived by his children, Barry C. Simmons, JR. and wife, Lori, of Albuquerque, NM; Randall Scott Simmons and wife, Angie, of Concrete, WA; Vicki Buck and husband, David, of Ferndale, WA; and Joel Simmons, of Ferndale, WA; Stepsons, Michael Baker of Raleigh, NC and Scott Baker and wife, Lauren of Los Angeles, CA as well as 12 grandchildren. Barry served his country in the United States Air Force. During his tenure with the Air Force, he served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He received numerous commendations and awards for the work he performed while serving his country in the nuclear energy facility in Sundance, WY. He was a graduate of the Air Force Officers Academy in San Antonio, TX and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Nuclear Engineering from Arizona State University. After his retirement, he was an entrepreneur in various businesses including, in his latter years, a professional engineering consulting firm. He also worked for the City of Albuquerque, NM, and the City of Arlington, WA as a civil engineer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Church Alive, located at 4601 Avocet Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will take place at Sante Fe National Cemetery, Friday, Oct 19 at 10am. The family welcomes anyone who knew Barry to attend the Memorial Service. VIGIL -- Anthony Simon Vigil, 25, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007. He was much loved by his family. He was a kind, loving individual who brightened any room. He was a great father who really loved his kids. Anthony is survived by his sons, Phillip and Daniel Meyers; his mother, Mary and step-father, David Chavez; his siblings, Caroline Salazar and husband, Steven Salazar, Steven Vigil and wife, Tanya Massey, Joseph Torres and David Vigil and Jessica Garcia. WEISS -- Patricia Sellers Born September 1, 1946 in Palo Alto CA, and Died October 13, 2007 in Albuquerque NM. She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Maxine Weiss of Alamosa, CO; her son, Paxton Stoker of Albuquerque, NM; her daughter, Mieka Stoker; and her granddaughter, Lilith Patricia Stoker of Belen NM. She was a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner recently retired from the University of New Mexico's Newborn ICU. She lead an amazing life and she brought great joy and strength into her family. We will miss her very much.
