WALLEY -- Ryan Phillip Walley, 27, made his way through the gates of Heaven on April 13, 2007. Ryan was born November 25, 1979 in Albuquerque, NM where he lived his entire life. Ryan battled cancer since the age of 17 years old, when he had a lung removed to save his life. Known as the "Comeback Kid" and sometimes "Little Man" to his really close friends, Ryan's persistence and strong will allowed him to return to La Cueva High School to finish out his senior year and graduate on time. Ryan's amazing character and story touched so many at his school, that it was no surprise that he was voted Prom King that year. He also became the 1998 captain of the La Cueva varsity baseball team and helped his team to a winning season. Ryan had a passion for music, and you could often find him in his room "jamming" behind the drums with some of his friends. Ryan was so inspired by the amazing medical staff that helped him overcome cancer, he decided to enroll at the University of New Mexico where he had dreams of becoming an airlift flight nurse. Unfortunately, a series of family tragedies never allowed him to complete his certification. His mother, Nancy, was stricken with cancer in 2003 and passed away at the age of 60. His health had hampered him for nearly nine years, when he was re-diagnosed in August 2006 with the same type of bone cancer that consumed his lung in 1997. Ryan fought the disease courageously once again, as his mother did. Ryan's friends have nothing but kind words to describe him. Many feel that he was a caring, loving individual who was an inspiration to many because of his ability to laugh and enjoy life. Many will forever remember his sense of humor and his ability to light a room up.
