ARMISTEAD -- Lena Rose Armistead, 55, passed away quietly after an illness at the VA Hospital on Saturday, February 17, 2007. She was born Thursday, April 26, 1951 in Ashville, NC to Rosalena and Wesley Carrington and was a resident of Albuquerque for 12 years. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Charlie; children, Sara and Rob; aunt, Virginia Brandenburg of Middletown, OH; cousins, Ethel Williams and Ina Westfall of Hickory, NC; a menagerie of cats; one dog that believes she is a cat; and a multitude of close friends. She spent her life caring for others. She cared for her children, both her own as a stay at home mom and others as a counselor at youth shelters. She also cared for seniors, from her own mother to those at an Alzheimer's care home. She was full of spirit: always the first to stand up and dance, to speak her mind, or to laugh. Few who have heard her could forget her "mad witch's cackle" booming across a room. She loved to garden, to be in the mountains, and to listen to her music as loud as possible. She was a loving wife, mother and friend and we will miss her greatly. We are grateful to the doctors and staff at the VA Hospital for their wonderful care and never ending hope for recovery. We also thank all her friends who gave her love and support over the years and during her illness. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Sunday, February 25, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
