BRANSON -- Lewis "Chuck" Branson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Martin of Roseville, CA and Kathy Doles and husband Paul of Seattle, WA; son, Tom Branson and wife Carla of Albuquerque; 9 grandchildren, Tammy and partner Donny, Nicholas and wife Casey, Betsy and husband Mike, Meghann, Willy and wife Aimee, Angela and husband Shane, Jeremy, Summer and husband Jim, Cheri and husband Mike; 11 great-grandchildren, Katarina, Jade Corrie, Chris, Aubrianna, Travis, Shea, Nicole, Laura, Brian, Justin and Brandon; sister, Betty Milstead and husband John of Medina, OH; brother-in-law , James Herbert Leach and wife Norma of Denver, CO and many other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther, on October 3, 2003. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 15, 1925. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Chuck was a salesman for Automotive Electrical Service for 25 years before purchasing Roadrunner Auto Supply, which he owned for 19 years. BUNNELL -- Jimmy David Bunnell age 62, of Albuquerque died Friday, June 11, 2004. He is survived by his wife Karen of Albuquerque; Daughter Tammy Munoz (Mark) of Albuquerque; Son Michael Bunnell of Albuquerque; Grandchildren Heather Tanner, Amanda Tanner, Calleigh Bunnell, Rachel Munoz, Daniel Bunnell, and Ryan Munoz all of Albuquerque. Mother Ola Mae Bunnell of Texas; Sister Carol Atwood of Arizona Brothers Kenneth Bunnell of Texas and Larry Bunnell of Farmington. Mr. Bunnell was a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather whom will be greatly missed by all who knew him. DANOFF -- Bertha H. Danoff, 88, a native New Mexican, was born in Albuquerque June 8, 1916, and died June 10, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Hyman Danoff; two sons: Michael Danoff (Margo) of Albuquerque, and Robert Danoff (Eve) of Paradise Valley, AZ; one sister, Kathryn Rubin (Leon) of Raton, NM; and five grandchildren: Troy Danoff of Phoenix, AZ. Ryan and Brett Danoff of Tempe, AZ. and Max and Sam Danoff of Paradise Valley, AZ. Bertha was the owner of Bertha's Shoppe, a longtime Albuquerque establishment which specialized in custom ladies' hats. Years later she had a second career as a realtor. Bertha was a lifetime member of Congregation Albert and its Sisterhood, Hadassah, and Eastern Star. Bertha loved life to its fullest and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She never knew a stranger. Bertha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE, on Monday, June 14, at 4:00 PM with Rabbi Joe Black officiating. ESCOBEDO -- Jo Ann Baldonado-Escobedo, age 46, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father and Savior, Wednesday, June 9, 2004. Jo Ann was a life long resident of Bernalillo. She worked for Bob Tuner's Automobile Dealership as an Administrative Assistant. Jo Ann was a very out going person with spunk; and will be remembered for her personality. She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Baldonado. Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Gilberto Escobedo, Sr.; her son, Gilberto Escobedo, Jr. of Albuquerque; her parents, Fidel and Petrita Baldonado of Bernalillo; two brothers, Fidel Baldonado, Jr. and wife Agnes, and Ernest Baldonado both of Bernalillo; one sister, Pauline Baldonado also of Bernalillo. Jo Ann will be greatly missed by her family. A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. LUKENS -- Paralee Armstrong Lukens passed away on June 11, 2004 at the age of 84. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lukens Schoen of Placitas, New Mexico; by her son, David Edward Lukens, of Santa Clara, California; and by her former husband, William P. Lukens of Lynchburg, Virginia. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Paralee was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 15, 1919 to Dennis Osborne Armstrong and Alma Noble Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sister, Maxine Mason of Danville, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois, Rutgers State Teachers College and the University of Rochester, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters in teaching. She taught elementary school in New Jersey and worked as a secretary. She retired from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984. She was active in the Association of University Women, the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and the Municipal Art Guild of Austin. For many years she served as an usher for the Austin Symphony. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Austin and in Rio Rancho. For the last five years she resided at Acantilado Vista in Rio Rancho. Her family wishes to convey their sincere appreciation to the staff of Acantilado Vista, Zia Hospice, and to Barbara Hernandez of Freedom Heart Senior Care who provided a beautiful sunset. Paralee was always a Texan at heart. She will be remembered for her love of painting, her faith, her sense of humor, her stories, and her white Stetson hat. MARES -- Pablo Mares, born March 3, 1913 to Domingo and Seferina Mares, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2004. Pablo is survived by his daughter, Patricia Mares-Mischke; son, Paul Mares and wife, Patricia; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Adams and husband, Dow. Pablo was preceded in his death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lucille Mares in April 2002. Pablo was a caring father and wonderful role model for his family and for the many students lives he touched as a music teacher, musician and composer. Pablo composed the song, "Mi Lindo Nuevo Mexico" which was adopted as the official state bilingual song for the State of New Mexico by the 1995 Legislature. His career included 35 years in New Mexico Public Schools in El Rito, Santa Fe, Belen and Los Lunas. In 1968, upon his retirement, Pablo accepted an appointment to teach overseas for the U.S. Military in Bad Krueznach, Germany (3 years) and Kenitra, Morocco. Early in his career, Pablo's orchestra arrangements and his song " Mi Lindo Nuevo Mexico" were published by Karl Fischer, Inc. New York. At that time, Pablo was the only native-born New Mexican published by this important music publisher. During his career Pablo was honored by two Governors and two Secretary of State's, receiving the titles of: Colonel Aide de Camp and Hidalgo de Calificada Nobleza. His many accomplishments and compositions are too numerous to list but his greatest accomplishments in life are the many people he touched during his 91 years. He inspired many students from disadvantaged families to recognize their value and ultimately achieve important accomplishments in music, education and in their own lives. Pablo will continue to be remembered by many for a long time and his influence will, in fact, go on for generations; a tremendous legacy for one of such meager beginnings. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. MILLER -- Raymond Alfred Miller, 87, of Albuquerque, was born on a farm in McGregor, Iowa, August 9, 1916 and died unexpectedly June 10, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marybeth Miller; one sister, Harriet Staber (Walter) of Springfield, IL; and one-sister-in law, Lida Miller of St. Paul, MN. His nieces and nephews are Melissa Schiferl (Ronald), Beth Florey (Kevin), Marla Walters (Rick), John Staber, Danny Staber (Kimberly), Nancy Staber and several cousins, great-nieces and great nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, Kermit Miller, and his parents, Roy and Hildegard Miller. He enlisted in the Army in 1937 and retired from Army Aviation, as a major, in 1957. He became a corporate pilot and retired as Chief Pilot for Interstate Power of Dubuque, IA in 1981. Raymond was an avid duplicate bridge player and an ACBL silver life master. He was a life member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Army Aviation Association. Raymond was a parishioner of the Shrine of St. Bernadette in Albuquerque. Visitation will be on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in McGregor, Iowa. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on June 14, 2004. RISHEL -- Jane Holman Rishel passed away Friday, June 11, 2004. She was born July 8, 1928 in Pasadena, CA, to Anne and C. Francis Holman. Her parents and brother, Dr. Douglas Holman predecease her. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Austin C. Rishel, her sons Eric and Alan Rishel, granddaughter, Piper Anne Rishel, and many friends across the globe. Jane and Austin have resided in Albuquerque since 1996 when they moved from River Falls, WI. Jane was an active member of Chapter X of the PEO Sisterhood where she contributed her energies to aiding young women attend college. Jane will be remembered as a loving, caring wife and mother, a tender caregiver to cats, and a dear, dear friend. ROOF -- Raymond Bradley Roof Jr. died June 8, 2004. He was born March 3, 1929 in Battle Creek Michigan to parent's Raymond Bradley Roof Sr. and Dorothy Crawford Roof. He attended the University of Michigan where he received B.S. degrees in metallurgical engineering and chemical engineering, an M.S. degree in metallurgical engineering, and a Ph.D. in crystallography. On June 12, 1951, he married Shirley June Knoll and they moved to Los Alamos in 1957, where he was employed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a research scientist. Following his retirement in 1990 he moved to Albuquerque where he lived for 14 years. He was an active member of the Los Alamos Unitarian Church where over the years he held every elective office, served as chair of the pledge drive on numerous occasions, designed and built custom cabinets and supervised major remodeling projects of the kitchen, bathrooms, and sanctuary. After moving to Albuquerque he joined the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque, where he organized Blood Drives for the Red Cross. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Steven Knoll Roof of Fairmont, WV, Michael Bradley Roof of Los Angles CA, and three grandchildren; Benjamin Roof, currently stationed in South Korea, Tegan Walker and Jordan Roof, both of Fairmont WV. A Service in Celebration of Brad's life will be held at the First Unitarian Church Wednesday June 16, 2004 at 10:00 am. TURNER -- Virginia Turner, 94, was born December 16, 1909 and died June 11, 2004. She is survived by her oldest daughter, Virginia Louise Shutt; grandchildren, Ken Wiley and wife, Mary Jane, Bobby Wiley and wife, Theresa, Danny Turner and wife, Delilah, Alan Turner and wife, Jackie, Cindy Rhoten and husband, David, and Lisa Venner; 9 great- grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. WOODIN -- Elizabeth (Betty) Woodin passed away on June 11, 2004. She was born on December 31, 1913 in Davenport, Iowa, and lived in Illinois until she was in her teens and moved to Kansas. After high school she moved back to Illinois. She married S.J. (Jerry) Woodin in 1937. Elizabeth moved to Albuquerque in 1948. Elizabeth was an accomplished musician who played piano and organ, and a business woman who owned Monterey Brokerage Company from the early 50s until 1969. In the 60s and 70s she was the Pan American Airlines New Mexico sales representative and a tour conductor, taking groups and travel agents throughout the world, visiting every continent but Antarctica. Elizabeth was a deaconess at Immanuel Presbyterian Church and on the board of directors of the Knife and Fork Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and her daughter, Nancy Runkle. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lynn Ford and husband Mike of Albuquerque, son-in-law, Robert Runkle of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren, Brian Elias of Houston, Texas, John Elias of Albuquerque, Rebecca Bar-Tur and husband Armon of New York City, and Dana Runkle of Concord, California, and three great-grandchildren. A private burial at Fairview Memorial Park will be held. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sonny Harper, Bill Harley, Clancy Chambers, Chuck DeBettignies, Bernie Swinburne, and Gene Russell. Memorial services will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd SE, at 2:00 p.m., on June 15, 2004, with Reverend Joyce Lieberman officiating.
