Bowen -- Sam P. Bowen, 27, died in an accident on October 11, 2002 in Ao Nang, Krabi Province, Thailand. He is survived by his love, Christina Baxter Lloyd. Also surviving are his best friend and sister, Rachel Bowen; and mother, JoAnn Albrecht both of Albuquerque; his father, Joseph P. Bowen of Jakarta, Indonesia; his grandmothers, Marjorie Albrecht and Margaret Bowen; as well as other family and his many friends all over the world. Sam was born in Los Alamos, NM on September 8, 1975, attended school at the Jemez Bodhi Mandala, International School Manila, and graduated from Jakarta International School in 1993, Colorado College in 1997, and New World Teachers in 1999. Sam's many interests included travel, philosophy and language education. He was a gifted wood and metalworker, and would take his passion for snowboarding to any slopes he came across. Sam was widely traveled in his too short life, having studied and worked in Jemez Springs, The Philippines, Indonesia, Illinois, Colorado, San Francisco, Costa Rica, Japan, and Albuquerque. His desire to live life to the fullest took him on many adventures throughout the world. Sam was devoted to his family and friends, and to making the world a better place. Sam's body was put to rest in Thailand where his ashes were spread across the Andaman Sea. Friends and family will gather Sunday, October 20, 2002 at the home of his mother, 512 Carlisle NE from 1:00 p.m. through the afternoon. Branum -- Mary Louise Guerin Branum, died Wednesday, October 16, 2002. She was born to Eva Barnes and Louis Guerin and was a native of Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mary Louise married Clint Branum in 1942, and they moved to Albuquerque about 1963. She is survived by two nephews, Gene and Kenneth Guerin; niece, Marlene Gonzales; three younger cousins whom she called granddaughters, Karen Tunnell, Joan Carlson and Anita Kramer Gorder; and two special cousins, Lucille Cde Baca and Donna Di Lorenzo Castleman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint; brother, John Guerin; sister, Ambrosita Guerin; and by her dearest cousins, Angie Kramer and Irene Di Lorenzo. Mary Louise was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Community. She loved golf, traveling and gardening. For many years, Mary Louise raised and canned her own vegetables, which won several blue ribbons at the State Fair, and which she shared with friends and neighbors. Always cheerful, helpful and generous, we have lost a good friend and relative. Cremation has taken place and memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 19, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Chavez -- Manuel R. Chavez, age 87, beloved and devoted husband, father, tata, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Wednesday, October 16, 2002 while visiting in Las Vegas, NV. Manuel was born in Tome, NM on October 10, 1915 and was a resident of Bernalillo. He retired from Sandia Corporation, after retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, Telesfor and Andreita Chavez; his first born son, Rey; sisters, Susana Benavides and Maria Chavez; brothers, Miguel, Donicio, Fidel and Frank Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gertrude; three daughters, Rosita Martinez and special friend, Santos Delgado of Las Vegas, NV, Andrea Ortiz and husband, Edward of Santa Fe, NM, and Katie Montoya of Las Vegas, NV; two sons, Flemie Chavez and special friend, Diane Ortiz of Albuquerque, Robert Chavez and wife, Marie of Cedar Park, TX; two brothers, Antonio Chavez and wife, Sophie of Bernalillo, Ernesto Chavez of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Max Mondragon of Bernalillo, and Ignacio Mondragon of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Lucy Arnold and husband, Jack of Grass Valley, CA, Ruby Chavez of Albuquerque, Consuelo Pichardo of Gallup; nine grandsons, Andrian Martinez, Andrew Martinez, Paul Ortiz, John Ortiz, Thomas Ortiz, Martin Ortiz, Jamil Mahboub,Jacob Chavez and Joseph Chavez; six granddaughters, Debra Huddleston, Stephanie McCleary, Pauline Laumbach, Frances Kaneshiro, Melissa Chavez, and Marlene Chavez; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Manuel will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. till the time of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary; and again on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. till the time of Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Final viewing will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Albert Gallegos (cousin to Manuel) as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. Clark -- Nancy Clark, 70, a 50-year resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, October 16, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Luther Clark of Albuquerque; daughters, Kim Carlsen and husband, Chip of Las Cruces and Karla Zagar and husband, Ken of Albuquerque; grandchild, Tyler Carlsen of Las Cruces; two brothers; two sisters; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. Guerrero -- Samuel Joseph"Sam" Guerrero was born January 28, 1914 in Grants, NM. He passed away October 16, 2002 in Albuquerque. Sam was the son of Emilia Guerrero LaGrange and Nathan Bibo. His half-sister, Julia Melgoza, preceded him in death. After attending Albuquerque High School, he graduated from Bernalillo High School in 1931, at which time he married his first wife, Mary Madeline Hutto, who preceded him in death in 1976. Sam worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico, then moved to Oklahoma City in search of work during the Great Depression. He progressed from being a service station attendant, to a Master Diesel Mechanic, to a responsible position as an Equipment Specialist for the B-52 bomber. Sam's life was marked by service to his church (especially St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Oklahoma City), his country, his family, and his fellow man. As a volunteer during World War II, he joined the Seabees, then transferred to the regular Navy and served in the Western Pacific on Manus Island in the Admiralties. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War, was injured on duty, and received a disability discharge. He had attained the rate of Chief Petty Officer. Sam was a devout Catholic, staunch Democrat, rabid Sooner fan, and loving husband and father. He was instrumental in transporting truckloads of equipment to hospitals in Mexico, was active in U.S.-Mexico cultural exchange programs, and was instrumental in the relocation of Cuban refugees in Oklahoma. He also assisted travelers at the information desk in the Albuquerque airport and wrote poetry published in Prime Time. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Patricia Ryder Guerrero, who was his loving companion and caring angel during their years together. Other survivors include three children from his first marriage, sons, Charles and his wife, Patricia of Tulare, CA, Mark and his wife, Terri of Norman, OK; daughter, Mary Conner and her husband, Dan of Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is also survived by stepson, Jim Ryder and his wife, Hing of Denver, CO; and a stepdaughter, Janis Winterhoff and her husband, Roger of Hubbard, Iowa. Included in Sam's large family are seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. A Rosary will precede the service at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the donor's favorite charity.

Littlejohn -- Jackie Littlejohn lifetime metaphysician, healer and medicine woman passed away after succumbing to breast cancer. Her career encompassed teaching high school English and Modern Philosophy in Espanola, NM in the 1960s to creating the position of Native American liaison to the Phoenix Union High School System during the late 70s and 80s. Jackie's psychic abilities placed her in the public eye on Unsolved Mysteries and on ABQ radio station 94 Rock. Jackie often helped families with missing person cases. She has been working with the Blue Eagle Book Store in Albuquerque for the past 15 years in the capacity of medicine woman and psychic. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at First Church of Religious Science, 3320 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque. Martinez -- Salvador Martinez, age 63, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Thursday, October 17, 2002 while surrounded by his loving family. Salvador was born in Ponderosa, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque; and a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Albuquerque and in Canyon, NM. He was United States Navy Veteran; he retired from the New Mexico Mounted Patrol; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a very loving person who would always go out of his way to let you know how special you were. Salvador was preceded in death by his parents, Delfina and Federico Martinez; and a son at birth. He is survived by his loving wife, Tomasita R. Martinez of the family home; his children, Maria Martinez and special friend, Steven Gonzales, Emily Nicole Sena and husband, James, Jacob Lyle Martinez, and Isabelle Gutierrez and husband, Ralph; four grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Emilio G. Martinez, Juan O. Martinez and wife, Sophie, Eugene Martinez, Gary Martinez and wife, Mary; four sisters, Marcella Brownson, Mary Lou Sierra and husband, Filomeno, Dolores Paderes, and Roberta Hernandez and husband, Mario; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Salvador will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. McSorley-Morgan -- Virginia McSorley-Morgan, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since the 1940s, died Sunday, October 13, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Joe McSorley and State Senator Cisco McSorley and wife, Joanne Kuestner, all of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Kathryn McSorley of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Eloesa McSorley of Albuquerque but attending Wellesley College and Meaghan McSorley of Albuquerque; sister, Rosemary Meehan and husband, John of Rockville Centre, NY; and brothers, John Norton and wife, Jane of Long Island, NY and Jim Norton of Long Beach, NY. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her first husband, Major Frank N. McSorley and second husband, John Morgan; sons, John McSorley and Richard McSorley. She received her Master Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. Virginia worked as a teacher in addition to being a wife and mother. She was Director of Catholic Social Services in Albuquerque and Director of Medical Social Services at St. Joseph's Hospital. Virginia volunteered for various charities and religious organizations including the St. Vincent De Paul Society and Peace and Social Justice. She traveled extensively to Asia, the Middle East, Central America, South America and Europe. Virginia loved to play the piano. She sponsored many Cuban and Vietnamese refugees. Mass was celebrated Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at the Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE, with Father Robert J. Keller, O.P., Celebrant. Pallbearers were Joe McSorley, Cisco McSorley, Eloesa McSorley, Don Schubert, Robert Flanagan and Tom McTigue. Honorary Pallbearer was her Godson, Richard Marlborough. Moeller -- Richard B. Moeller, 55, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Tuesday, October 15, 2002. Phillips -- Charlotte Meeting Phillips, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died October 17, 2002 in her home in Albuquerque. She was the widow of Leonard Gregory Phillips, who died in 1981 and preceded by her brother, Paul Henry Meeting of Houston. She is survived by sister in-law, Margaret Meeting; her niece, Sherin Meeting Jester; and her great-nephew, Nathan Taylor all of Houston, TX; two step-daughters, Mary G. P. Hall of Santa Fe and Jane Bialek of Baltimore, MD; a step granddaughter, Tabitha Hall of Albuquerque and their families. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where she was elected to the honorary scholastic fraternity Phi Beta Kappa and also became a member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity. For many years, she was an editor for the McGraw-Hill Book Company in New York and for the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Phillips was a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, Albuquerque, where Memorial Services will be held on October 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John's Cathedral Chapel with the Reverend Canon Albert W. Turbell, officiating. Her ashes will be interred in the Columbarium at the Cathedral. The family requests no flowers. Sanchez -- Amalia Sena Sanchez, 109, one of Santa Fe's Living Treasures, passed away peacfully at her home October 16, 2002. She was born in Los Lunas December 8, 1892. As a child she was raised in Santa Fe's historic Sena Plaza, which was built by her grandfather. She was always an activist. As early as 1914 she was helping to sell lemonade on the Plaza to fund the first Santa Fe Public Library. In 1927 she was elected Santa Fe's first Fiesta Queen. She enjoyed a life rich in experience and events, and gave of herself unstingily first to her family and church, then to the community and the many who crossed her path. She was predeceased by her husband, Manuel A. Sanchez in 1970; her son, Manuel P."Pat" Sanchez in 1996; and her daughter, Juanita Sena in 1999. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Isabel Hoffman of Santa Fe; her son, Jose M. Sanchez and wife, Carol of St. Louis, MO; daughter-in-law, Jane Sanchez of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Claude Sena of Santa Fe; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2002 at McGee Memorial Chapel followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 21, 2002 at St. Francis Cathedral 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Carmelite Ministry or the Santa Fe Public Library.

Smith -- Selina Smith, born June 16, 1930 passed away on September 25, 2002. She was born in Puerto De Luna, New Mexico and was raised in the Santa Rosa area. She resided in Albuquerque, Estancia, and most recently in Rio Rancho. Her parents, Bernardo and Manuelita Espinosa; her sister, Dolores Esquibel; and her husband, Elmer Smith preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Phillip Hoehne of Vaughn and Russell Smith of Colorado; daughters, Nancy Flores of Albuquerque, Yolanda Donalson of Rio Rancho, Dolores Wood of Rio Rancho, and Kimberlee Turpin of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rachael Hoehne, Kevin Smith, Ashley Smith, William Waters, Jonathon Flores, Jacqueline Flores, Megan Wood, Ashley Wood and Amber Turpin; great-grandchildren, Joshuah Flores, Jasmin Flores, Darryn Flores, Kennedi Rey, and Tyler Martin; her sister, Rose Maldonado; daughters-in-law, Carmen Smith and Martha Baca-Hoehne; and sons-in-law, Jake Flores, Dan Donalson, and Matthew Wood; and also many friends from the Church of Christ. Tavasci -- Ernest J Tavasci, 83, a life long resident of Albuquerque passed away October 16, 2002. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a World War II Veteran and retired from Sandia Labs after 30 years of service. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Cleo Tavasci of the family home; his precious children, Albert Tavasci, Vangie Tavasci-Arellano and husband, Paul Arellano; grandchildren Yvette Arellano, Gina Arellano, Zemina Tavasci, Albert Tavasci, Julian Tavasci; sister, Mary Herrman; brothers, Joe and Robert; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and his beloved dog Tasha Bear. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. A Rosary will be recited at Holy Rosary Church at 9:30 a.m., October 19, 2002, followed by funeral mass. Toffelmire -- Joe C. Toffelmire, 94, died peacefully at home on October 18, 2002. He was preceded in death by his two brothers; two sisters; and his granddaughter, Janet. Joe is survived by his wife, Madeline, of the family home; two daughters, Joanna Sandoval and husband, Peter along with their children Joe, Jeff, James and their families; Gretchen Lane and husband, Golden along with their children Stephen, Susan, Shana, Cary and their families; and nine loving great-grandchildren. Joe was in the newspaper business for half of his working life starting as a printer's apprentice; the owner of two newspapers; and then in advertising for the Albuquerque Journal. He then spent the other half of his work life as manager for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company. He had a great sense of humor and told lots of good stories. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Turner -- Betty Turner, 79, a resident of Corrales, passed away October 15, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe D. Turner; daughter, JoAnne Crandall and husband, Bob of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Mike Crandall and wife, Shirlee of San Antonio, TX and Scott Crandall and wife, Nancy of Plano, TX; great-grandson, Brett Crandall and brother, John Stoops of Bakersfield, CA. Betty graduated from Albuquerque High School and was an avid bridge player with the Duke City Bridge Club. She was also well known for her dancing in plays and commercials while living in Seattle, Washington. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 21, 2002, 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE (off of I-25 and Martin Luther King Blvd).
