Andolina-Buono -- Andolina- Lydia Margaret Marie Andolina-Buono, 33, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 16 years, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2002. Lydia was born May 3, 1969 the daughter of Anthony and Lucille Battagila Andolina in Buffalo, New York. She came to New Mexico after living in Italy for four years. Lydia had worked for the New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation before her death. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert of Albuquerque; daughter, Christiana Nicole Andolina-Buono of Albuquerque; parents, Anthony and Lucille Andolina of Albuquerque; In-laws, James G. and Gloria Buono of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Anthony David Andolina of Albuquerque; sister, Keli Sanchez and husband, Elias of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Donald Buono and James T. Buono and wife, Angela all of Oklahoma City, OK; one niece, Brianna Andolina and three nephews, Anthony Sanchez, James P. Buono, and Brian V. Buono. Visitation for Lydia will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Archibeque -- Eliza V. Archibeque, age 76, a beloved and devoted Mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was called home to be with the Lord our Savior Tuesday, September 3, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. Eliza was born in Algodones, NM to the late Patricio and Dolores Vigil; and was resident of Albuquerque. She loved baby sitting; and was wonderful Mother and homemaker. Eliza is survived by one daughter; four sons; her grandsons; one brother; and one sister. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Interment will follow at the Algodones Community Cemetery, in Algodones, NM. Balcomb -- The Rev. Sara A. Balcomb, Episcopal Priest, Wife of J. Douglas Balcomb. Died at age 64 in Morrison Co. on July 20 after a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. Born Sara Jane Allen at Bloomington, Ind.on May 5, 1938, daughter of Robert E. Barton Allen and Bertha Rankin Allen. In Albuquerque she attended Highland High and UNM, joining Kappa Alpha Theta sosority. Graduated from UNM in 1977. Ordained a Priest in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Colorado on July 22, 1089 after attending St. Thomas Seminary in Denver and Church School of the Pacific in Berkeley, earning a Masters of Divinity. Served as Curate of St. Paul's in Lakewood, CO, Vicar and then Rector of St. Matthew's in Parker, CO, and interim Rector at Church of the Ascension, Denver Co. Survived by her husband, a Research Fellow at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; son, Matthew Balcomb; daughter, Rachael Nelson; sister, Ann Allen of Pierce AZ; and brother, Robert Allen, Jr. of Phoenix. Bordenave -- Mary A. Bordenave born in Dodge City, Kansas December 16, 1914, and passed away at home in the presence of her children, on September 4, 2002, at the age of 87.¯ Mary moved to New Mexico in 1940, retired from Sandia Laboratories in 1974, and since then has enjoyed travel and spending time at her cabin on the Conejos River, in Colorado.¯ Mary was an active member for many years in both Eastern Star and White Shrine.¯ She is survived by her sons, Jean Bordenave, and Louis Bordenave, and wife, Linda; daughter, Kristine Bordenave and husband, James Feeney; grandchildren, Dayna Melvin, Yvonne Christner, Tiffany O¯Connell, and Samantha Bordenave; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Grayson Melvin, Megan and Leah Christner, and Tyler Zamora; nieces, Patricia Bordenave, Joleen McCormick, and Karen Kaul; nephews, James Wood and Charles Wood.¯ In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a family memorial service will be celebrated in the spring of 2003.¯ In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.¯ Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th NW Albuquerque, 343-8008.

Brooks -- Ruth N. Brooks, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1940, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.¯ Ruth is survived by her husband, Jerry Brooks; son, Larry Brooks and wife, Barbara of Roanoke, Texas; grandson, Jim Brooks of Midland, Texas; sister, Sarah Hendrickson, and husband, Jim of Hanford, California; brother, Paul Burkholder and wife, Vickey of Albuquerque; mother-in-law, Mildred Brooks of Albuquerque.¯ Ruth retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1996, after 44 years of service. Ruth had many friends and will be greatly missed.¯ A special thank you to all the wonderful people at Presbyterian Hospice.¯ Cremation has taken place.¯ A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Chavez -- Eugene Ernesto"Geno" Chavez, Jr., age 15, passsed away September 1, 2002 in Santa Rosa. Geno was born September 16, 1986 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Eugene Chavez and Alberta Saiz. He had just started his sophmore year at Santa Rosa High School. Geno had a love for sports. While in Middle School he participated in track and football and in High School he participated in baseball and basketball. He was proud to be playing for the Santa Rosa Fighting Lions. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Abel Saiz, Jr., and his great-grandparents, Jose Inez Chavez, Juan and Agneda Montoya and Jose Reyes Tapia. Survivors include his parents, Gene and Alberta; his sister, Lanette Chavez of Albuquerque; his brothers, Delano Chavez and Reuben Chavez of Santa Rosa and his special nephew, Izaiah Chavez; maternal grandmother, Sally Saiz of Santa Rosa; Paternal grandparents, Ernesto and Evelyn Chavez of Juan de Dios, NM; maternal great-grandmother, Valeria Tapia of Santa Rosa and Paternal Great-Grandmother, Erlinda Chavez of Clovis. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, classmates and friends. Rosary services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. from the Santa Rosa High School Gymnasium with Father Stephen Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Dettweiler -- Dr. John H. (Jack) Dettweiler, 82, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Dettweiler of Albuquerque; sons, Jack Dettweiler Jr. and wife, Terry of Albuquerque, Eric Dettweiler and wife, Lisa of Albuquerque; daughter, Terry Ann Dettweiler; and granddaughter, Eva Dettweiler all of Albuquerque. Born April 28, 1920, to William E. Dettweiler D.D.S. and Helen B. Dettweiler, Jack grew up in Washington D.C. with his brother, Bill, and sister, Helen, one of the founders of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. Dr. Dettweiler graduated from Georgetown Prep School where he played football and was Captain of the Golf and Rifle Teams. He received his B.S. degree from Georgetown University and his M.D. from Georgetown University Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at D.C. General Hospital, and taught Clinical Medicine at the University of Arkansas Medical School. In 1948 he moved to Albuquerque and began his private practice. While he found time for golf, fishing, hunting and gardening, his dedication was to his medical practice, and he always practiced it the way he felt it should be done. He was available seven days a week, and made house calls until the day he retired. He is Past President of the Bernalillo County Medical Society and Four Hills Country Club. His philosophy was: Always be thankful for what you have and never complain about what you don't have. If you want something bad enough, the good Lord has given you the talents and energy you need to acquire it. A memorial rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 4, 2002, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 87110. Fuentes -- Grace A. Fuentes, 38, went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2002. She was born on April 20, 1964 in Albuquerque, NM. Gonzales -- Manuel Gonzales, 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 1, 2002 peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family.¯ Mr. Gonzales is survived by his loving children, Loretta Brogan and husband, Russell, Susie Snyder, Carol Rivera, Ronald Montoya and Joseph Thomas Montoya; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.¯ He is preceded in death by his wife, Eloisa 2001.¯ Mr. Gonzales was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Corp. serving in World War II, a life member of the D.A.V. Gonzales -- Nires C. Gonzales, a long time resident of Valencia, NM,¯ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2002, after a long illness. She was a member of the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Valencia.¯ Preceding her in death were her two sons, Elfigo and Robert Gonzales, and her daughter, Elaine Gonzales. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Santos of the family home; three daughters, Bertha Schenck and her husband, Jerry of Albuquerque; Betty Tapia and her husband, Orlando of El Cerro; Roselyn Cordova and her husband, Michael of Las Nutrias; and one son, Joe Gonzales and his wife, Nancy of Los Lunas. Nires is also survived by her many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all adored her. All services will take place at the Sangre de Christo Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Hernandez officiating. Interment will follow in the Valencia Cemetery. Grado -- Miguel L. Grado, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, surrounded by his family and friends passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 1, 2002 after a long illness.¯ Miguel is the beloved husband of 56 years to Josefina. Mr. Grado is also survived by his two daughters, Irma Grado and Patricia (Patty) Grado; a son, Rodolfo (Rudy) Miguel Grado and wife, Janet; four grandchildren, Leonardo Wagener, Ian¯ Michael Anthony Grado, Matthew Aaron Isaac Grado and Sarah Fina Marie Grado.¯ He is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Rosemary Grado.¯ Mr. Grado was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where he served his parish until his death. He was a member of the Parish Council, he sang with the Spanish Choir, was an usher for many years, was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WW II as a Seabee. Miguel is retired from Sandia/Kirtland where he worked as a firefighter for 25 years. Miguel was a plaster by profession. He was a master of his trade. Much of his work can still be seen in the Albuquerque/Los Alamos/El Paso areas, St. Joseph and Presbyterian Hospital, UNM. the Plaza Hotel and the Plaza Theater in El Paso, TX, just to name a few. Harrington -- Rosemary J. Harrington of Ramah New Mexico died on Monday afternoon in her garden. Born June 19, 1924 in Monroeville, Ohio Rosemary¯is survived by her husband of 48 years Kenneth J. Harrington; her daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Arunyon & her four children, (Rosemary's grandchildren) Matthew, Zachary, Kaitlin, and Jenna¯of Houston TX. As well as her son, Timothy P. Harrington of Rio Rancho, NM, and son, Mark W. Harrington of Albuquerque, NM. Rosemary also leaves behind her brother, Jack W. Holguin -- Tomas Quintana Holguin, born in Carlsbad, NM on July 19, 1946 to Rita Quintana Holguin of Redford, TX and Santiago Gallegos Holguin of Delicias, Chihuahua died on Wednesday September 4th, 12:12 a.m. at Kindred Hospital. He is the youngest of 12 & is survived by four brothers, Mike Holguin of Albuquerque, Daniel Holguin of Carsbad, NM, Santiago Holguin, Jr. of Corrales, NM, Alfonso Holguin of El Paso, TX, & by six sisters, Micaela Gonzales, Elizabeth Cook, & Maria Holguin of Albuquerque, Amelia Herrera of San Jose, CA, Eustolia Ielacqua of Belen, NM, Ramona Holguin of Oakland, CA; 28 nieces & nephews, 35 great-nieces & nephews; three great-great-nieces & nephews, and by his god-daughter, Kristin Hughes, of Rio Rancho, NM. He was met in heaven by both his parents, his brother Lazaro Holguin of El Paso, TX, and his niece, Maria del Rosario (Cissy) Holguin. Tom faced the challenges of quadraplegia for 39 years, living three times longer than his life expectancy. Educated at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, he served his community as a career/educational counselor for the disabled & incarcerated. He was a Big Brother and Special Olympics volunteer, & an outspoken lobbyist/advocate for healthcare & equal access for the disabled. He enjoyed the hobby of drag racing & won many awards. Keith -- Harold E. Keith, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 75 years, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Bandoni and husband, Larry and Margaret Casados and husband, Ed, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rick Beltramo, Mike Beltramo, Lori Gillis, Keith Bandoni, Lenae Bandoni MacPhail and Leslie Bandoni; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Eclon Keith in March 2002. He was an engineer with Sandia Labs, after retirement he worked at the Grand Canyon for nine years and then he moved back to Albuquerque in 1983. Private family services will be held. Long -- Lucille Long, 94, passed away on August 23, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Crowley, of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Patrick and Michael Crowley; nephews, William and Joseph Santo. She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Long. Lucille retired from the Chicago Board of Education as a Librarian. Visitation for Ms. Long will be from 3:00 p.m. until time of Rosary. Loredo -- Mary Loredo, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002.¯ She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jose R. Loredo of Albuquerque; daughter, Ann Hertzing and husband, Edward of Denver; sons, Jerry Davila and wife, Yolanda of San Antonio, TX, Roy Loredo and wife, Lucia of Germany and Jose R. Loredo of Aurora, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one niece.¯ Mary was preceded in death by her sister.¯ She was retired from GTE and worked the last seven years at Wal-Mart on Academy as a greeter.¯ Mary loved football especially the Lobos and the Cowboys.¯ She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.¯ Mary was also a member of the American Legion Post 49.¯ Cremation has taken place and a memorial prayer service will be held Thursday, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Ruben Barela officiating. ¯In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association- NM Affiliate, P.O. Luhn -- Evan Ryan Luhn, 53, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and most recently of Bosque Farms, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2002. Born in Rhode Island and moving with his family to New Mexico as a youth, he graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and subsequently the Coast Guard Reserve. After earning an LVN degree, he returned to New Mexico in the mid 1980s. He was employed by the UNM Mental Health Center and was active in the local arts community. Ryan is survived by two brothers, Roderick of Norfolk, VA and Edward of Bosque Farms, NM; a paternal aunt, Dr. Nellie Currarino of Dallas, TX; a maternal aunt, Mrs. Barbara Messinger of Wakefield, RI; a niece and nephew, Paige and Gregory Luhn of Shrewsbury, NJ; and a nephew and niece, Justin and Brittany Luhn of Norfolk, VA. Ryan will be remembered fondly by all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Mexico AIDS Services. Arrangements have been made to inter his ashes at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, where he will eternally join his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Graham H. Luhn.

Neidel -- Edward C. Neidel, Jr., 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille of Albuquerque; his daughters, Dottye Davis and her husband, Parke, of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeanne Harbaugh and husband, Larry of Albuquerque, and Nan Miller and her husband, Bill of Albuquerque; his sons, Edward Neidel and wife, Jackie of Austin, TX, and James Neidel of San Francisco, CA; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, George Neidel and wife, Shirley; and his sister, Alice Cittadino and husband, Aldo. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and served in the United States Navy during WW II. He moved to Albuquerque in 1949 and worked for Sandia Labs as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1987. Cremation has taken place and a memorial rosary will be recited Thursday, September 5, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with the Marianites reciting. Karl was a freshman high school student at World Wide Association of Specialty Programs, Spring Creek Lodge in Thompson Falls, MT. Schneider -- Aaron M."White Wolf" Schneider, 22, went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2002. He was a 1998 graduate of Rio Grande High School and a devout Christian attending Victory Outreach and Aposolto Alto Churches. This 6'9" Gentle Giant is survived by his parents, Pete and Beth Schneider and a brother, Nathan of the family home; also his grandparents, Pete and Marion Schneider of Paradise Hills. Valdes -- Leonard T. Valdes, age 80, died peacefully on Saturday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie. He touched the hearts of many people and will be greatly missed. He loved people and spent his life helping anyone in need. He had a long, active life. Everyone experienced his kindness and generosity along with his words of wisdom and a great sense of humor. He was born in Santa Fe, in 1922. He graduated from St. Michaels in 1939 and served in the Air Force. Early in his career, he went into the accounting profession with Meliton Sandoval and Ray Arias. He worked under Governor Burroughs as budget officer of the N.M. Bureau of Revenue in 1959. Later he started his own accounting practice in the Lensic building. In 1966, he was appointed director of the Public Employees Retirement Association, serving until his retirement in 1988. He is the longest-tenured director during PERA's 54 year history, helping to make it one of the best retirement plans in the country. He is survived by his son, Mark; grandchildren, Gina and Christina; older brother, Fred Valdes and his wife, Thelma; twin sister, Marian and her husband, Earnest Karlson; brother-in-law, I.W. Li; sister-in-law, Diane Pick; nieces, Esther Hall, Dorothy Gallegos, Linda Wheeler, Rosina May Thomas, Leonore Herrera, Chalee Trainor; nephews, Tito Karlson, Jeff Li, Jack Trainor and Jason Trainor; special"adopted daughter", Cyndy Lynch; and numerous other family members. Vega -- Leandro Vega Jr. A prayer service for Leandro Vega Jr., 70, of Carrizozo will be Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Santa Rita's Catholic Church where the funeral mass will be on Friday, September 6, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in White Oaks. Officiating will be the Rev. Dave Bergs. Leandro died Monday, September 2, 2002 in Ruidoso. He was born October 13, 1931 at Nogal and had lived in Lincoln County all of his life. He served in the Army during Korean, was a deputy sheriff in Lincoln County 1960-1064 and 1968-19762 and was sheriff 1964-1968 and 1972-1976 and had served as criminal investigator for the 12th Judicial District for 18 years. He was lifetime rancher, ranching at Reventon and White Oaks. He was a member of Santa Rita's Catholic Church and married Delfinia Sanchez on December 27, 1958 at Hondo. He is survived by his wife, Delfinia of Carrizozo; two sons, Lee Vega and his wife, Cathy of Santa Rosa and Gary Vega of a ranch northeast of White Oaks; three brothers, Richard Vega of Carrizozo, Robert Vega of Tularosa and Henry Vega of Carrizozo; three sisters, Ida Herrera of Carrizozo, Frances Bohl of Pagosa Springs, CO and Helen King of Boles Acres; a grandson, Stephan Vega; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Vega; numerous nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by Sofia Ortiz and Betty Lueras.
