Caldwell -- Robert Caldwell. Memorial Services will be held for Robert Caldwell of Oceanside on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Waud's Funeral Home, Tillamook. Mr. Caldwell was born April 24, 122 in Fertigs, PA to Roy and Vivian (Mudge) Caldwell and passed away August 2, 2002 in Oceanside, Oregon at the age of 80. Mr. Caldwell grew up on his parents farm in rural Pennsylvania. He was one of eight children. He worked on their farm driving the team of horses plowing fields and also logging near by lands. He later worked in the ship yards building ships prior to his service in World War II. He served in the US Army during WWII in Normandy during the D-Day Invasion landing on Utah Beach with the 90th Division. During the battle at St. Lo, Mr. Caldwell was shot 6 times by a Germany machine gun. He was shipped to a hospital and it was there that he met his wife, Elizabeth Smeltzer. They were married on February 13, 1945 in Oil City, PA. Mr. Caldwell later worked in Erie, PA in a rubber factory until 1957. He then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked for the US Postal Service as Clerk and Supervisor. He retired about 1984 and several years later moved to Oceanside, Oregon where they had visited on a vacation. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Disabled Veterans. He loved to fish, care for his cats, and take long walks on the beach. Just last August, Mr. Caldwell was able to take a trip back to Normandy with his son and granddaughter. Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Caldwell of Oceanside, OR; three sons, Robert Caldwell of Helena, MT, Stephen Caldwell of Cedar Crest, NM and Mark Caldwell of Rio Rancho, NM; brother, John Caldwell of Gerard, PA; sister, Joan Tarr of Oil City, PA and three grandchildren.

Cassidy -- Patricia"Pat" Cassidy, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Ed Cassidy of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law and their wives, Joe and Joanne Cassidy of Gurnee, IL, Gerald and Helen Cassidy of Round Lake, IL, Henry and Susan Cassidy of Arlington, VA, Thomas and Nancy Cassidy of Geneva, IL and Paul Cassidy of Aurora, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friend of 40 years, Jacqueline Rolfe of Los Lunas, NM. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Cassidy; and her brother, Thomas G. Howard. Pat graduated from Beloit College with a degree in speech and English. She was the third woman County Commissioner for Bernalillo County from 1985 through 1992. She was known as"the lady with the hat." Pat's proud accomplishments as Bernalillo County Commissioner included securing the funding to make Tramway a 4-lane highway from the city limits to the Sandia Reservation. Pat also reached the first agreement with the Department of the Interior over the ownership and use of the west face of the Sandias. Pat was the only two term president of the New Mexico Association of Counties and successfully gained acceptance for their Workers Compensation Insurance Pool. She was a board member of the National Association of Counties, member of AFT, Kiwanis, League of Woman Voters, American Association of University Women, Eucharistic Minister at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Central Committee member of the Bernalillo County and State of New Mexico Republican Party and a member of the New Mexico Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She taught high school speech and produced junior and senior plays at Antioch High in Antioch, IL. Pat taught in the alternative high schools in Albuquerque, assisted at Queen of Heaven Catholic School Library and was involved with parent activities at St. Pius High School when their son was a student. For many years, she was a secretary of the Tuesday Foursome bowling team at Fiesta Lanes. She was a longtime advocate of equality for women. As a teacher in the 1950's, she questioned pay policies that gave male teachers additional salary based on their number of children. As a republican party activist, she led the effort to change the state party rules to require that at least half the delegates to national conventions be women. The rule change failed to pass but all subsequent delegations from New Mexico have met this standard. As County Commissioner, she appointed qualified women to zoning and other boards whenever possible. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, with Father Johnny Lee Chavez, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacquelyn Schaefer, Rosa Martinez, Nellie Montoya, Louise Davis, Clara Otero and Susan Noftsker. Honorary pallbearer will be Donna K. Smith. Clingenpeel -- Donald Oscar"Chief Boats" Clingenpeel, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Monday, August 5, 2002. Don has gone to our Lord, after losing the battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Clingenpeel; children, Cynthia Clingenpeel of Belen, Gail Adams and husband, Richard of Yuba City, CA, Ted Clingenpeel and wife, Fern of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tammie Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, Marc Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, and Shanin Adams of Yuba City, CA; and younger sisters, and; brothers, Arthur Clingenpeel and wife, Elsie of Albuquerque, Leonard Clingenpeel and wife, Nellie of Mapleton, IA, Russel Clingenpeel and his wife, Phyllis of Sioux, NE, Irene McClellan and husband, Ed of Onawa, NE, Leila Shupe and husband, Ernest of Turin, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Joyce Bugg of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Clarence Clingenpeel of Iowa. Don was born on December 21, 1919 in Sioux City, IA. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1960, making Albuquerque his home. During his naval career, Don survived the Pearl Harbor attack while aboard the USS West Virginia on December 7, 1941 receiving the Purple Heart for his injuries. In 1961, he became employed with the US Postal Service in Albuquerque and retired after 17 years of service. Donald will be sorely missed by those who knew him especially for his knowledge and character. Cole -- Mr. John Wesley Cole, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque since 1933, ended his earthly journey on Friday, August 2, 2002.� John was born January 12, 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas, the youngest of three children of John Wesley Cole, Sr. and Elizabeth Williams Cole Wagner.� John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth; stepfather, Ernest Wagner; son, Ernest Wesley Cole; sisters, Frances Cole, Vivian Ballew; and brother in law, Charles Ballew.� During John's earthly life, he enjoyed reading and discussing the Holy Bible and his mind remained sharp and alert.� John was a retired Santa Fe Railroad employee who kept up with current events, believed in holistic medicine, contributed to charities and enjoyed fishing.� He was a jazz enthusiast who talked about the late John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Count Basie.� John played tennis in his younger days and was proud of his cooking skills.� John accepted Christ in his later years and Elder John L. Pearson of Calvary Apostolic Temple in Albuquerque became his pastor.� John W. Crosby -- Robert G.� Crosby (Bob) 67, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, August 05, 2002 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Janet and husband, Johnny Lindell of Arlington, TX, Susan and husband, Rod Diethrich of Edmond, OK; two brothers, Steve Crosby and wife, Evelyn, Robert Mellon and wife, Julie; and sister, Mary Draper. He also leaves five grandchildren, Cassandra, Brett, Allen, Lyndsea and Jeremy and wife Darla; and great-grandchildren, Tomorrow, Tristan and Jaxson. Robert was preceded by two daughters and one son. Bob retired in January 2000 after 45 years with ABF Freight Systems. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints where he served as teacher, Bishop's councilor, mission leader, and a member of the Stake High Council. Bob was an ordinance worker in the Albuquerque Temple at the time of his death. Politically active, he was concerned and always expected integrity from public servants. Bob was a friend to all and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Services will be held Wedneday, August 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12701 Indian School Rd. NE. Eno -- Richard L. Eno, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2002 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Nancy Murray and husband, Stuart, all of Albuquerque; son, Randy and wife, Cindy of Wichita, Kansas; and grandchildren, Kate and Kevin Murray and Jordan, Kyle and Gregory Eno. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Eno. Dick was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following three years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque in 1956, retiring from a distinguished career there in 1992. During his career at Sandia, Dick was involved in a number of projects. He considered his efforts with Sandia's various rocket programs as his most rewarding work. He loved flying, camping, fishing, Indy car racing and being with his family. Following his retirement Dick and Betty traveled extensively in their motor home, spending the fall and winter months in Port Isabel, Texas. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming Blvd NE. Garcia -- Mr. Salomon Garcia, 78, a resident of Seboyeta, NM passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on August 4, 2002. Mr. Garcia is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Dulcie Garcia. Mr. Garcia is also survived by his; four daughters, Dolores Valdez and husband, Juanito, Kathy Briones and husband, Dave, Leslie Andujo and husband, Hector, Bernice Silva and husband, Larry; two sons, Norrie Garcia and wife, Debbie, George Garcia and wife, Sharie; two sisters, Dominica Archunde, Beatrice Apodaca and husband, Eloy; one brother, Augustine Garcia; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Wednesday evening after 6:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Waldo Garcia. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Seboyeta, N.M. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Lorenzo. Hurry -- Harry Allen Hurry, 56, of Carson, WA, passed away Friday, July 26, 2002 at the Bonneville Dam. Mr. Hurry was born July 24, 1946 in Houston, TX to Paul S. and Mimi M. (Hurlburt) Hurry. He was born into a Navy family and traveled all over the United States as a boy and chose to follow his father's footsteps and made the Navy a career. During his military days, Harry traveled the world, serving in the Mediterranean and in Europe, wintering over in the South Pole and serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam retiring from the Navy as a Senior mast Chief in the late 80's. Harry worked on an ocean going tug in the Midway. He taught at the San Diego Technical Schools and worked as a civilian at the naval Computer Center on Coronado Island in California. He moved to Carson, WA in the early 90's and worked with the Army Corp of Engineers at the Navigational Lock of the Bonneville Dam as the Lock master, until his death. Harry was a great train buff and helped to renovate a Santa Fe steam engine and a Hawaiian Sugar Cane steam train for the 1976 bicentennial. Besides trains, Harry enjoyed renovating old slot machines, doing leatherwork and watching the stock market. He is survived by; his mother, Mimi Hurry; sisters, JoAnne Hurry and Patricia Thompson; nieces, Brianna Bitner and her husband, John, and Amy Jo Thompson; great-nieces, Bryttini and Rebekah Bitner, all of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his loyal companions, his cats, Oot, Pumpkin and Smokey Joe. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those he came in contact with. Kissock -- Margaret F. Kissock, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2002, after a long battle with emphysema.� She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Carabajal and husband, Ramon; son, Gary Kissock and wife, Pamela; and grandchildren, Stephen and Laura Kissock and Yvonne and Ramon Quezada.� She is also survived by her sisters, Madeline Fiore and husband, Mike, Marion Hirschman and husband, Carl; niece, Kristin Kissock and husband, Russ Hatfield; and several other nieces and nephews.� Mrs. Kissock was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kissock on October 12, 1990.� She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by the entire family.� Margaret was born in Newton Falls, NY and came to Albuquerque in the early 1950's with her husband who was stationed at Manzano Base.� She was employed as an executive secretary at the large USF&G insurance firm.� She was a member of the Albuquerque Insurance Women's Club.� Prior to her retirement in the late 1980's, Margaret and her husband owned several race horses and enjoyed the horse racing industry immensely, as well as boating at Navajo Lake.� After retirement, Margaret donated her time to the New Mexico State Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program overseeing nursing homes.� Due to her efforts, patients were treated fairly and facilities were improved.� She was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Lane -- Jorge J. Lucas -- Al Lucas, 74, a 67-year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Lucas of Albuquerque; daughters, Donna Duzan and husband, William of Dallas, TX and Joyce Hicks and husband, Philip of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Stephen Hicks, David Hicks, Reilly Hicks, Kathleen Therese Hicks; sisters, Lola Smith of Albuquerque and Martha Lucas of Albuquerque; brothers, Bill Lucas and wife, Darlene of Burbank, CA and Charles Lucas and wife, Linda of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Lucas and parents, Floyd and Mattie Lucas. A loving husband and father, Al's great strength was his kindness and generosity. He converted to Catholicism at an early age and deeply treasured his Catholic faith and family. Much of his life was filled with selfless and unassuming acts of giving. Mr. Lucas served in the Navy and graduated from the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and Our Lady of Fatima Church and actively participated in the ministries of the parishes. He was active in the school board for St. Pius X High School and numerous community activities including volunteer work for St. Joseph Hospital and the adult literacy program. Martines -- William R. Martines, 59, went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2002. He was born on February 20, 1943 in Albuquerque, NM. Mcguire -- Joe T. McGuire, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, August 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Regina McGuire of the family home; son, Tommy W. McGuire and wife, Patricia; grandson, Joseph P. McGuire and wife, Julie, all of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. McGuire was a Veteran of WWII. He was the manager of Carlise Plaza Mobile Home Park for 22 years. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with John Schwartz officiating.

Perrin -- Betty Young Perrin, 66, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away August 2nd, 2002 with her family by her side.� She was born in Richmond, VA, April 19, 1936 and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1962.� She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Norman E. Perrin Sr. and her four devoted children, sons, Rocky and wife, Kim, Jimmy, Jeff, daughter, Mary and husband, David Young and grandchildren, Erik Perrin, David and Kaitlin Young, all of Albuquerque.� Betty was employed by Mountain Bell from 1971-1983.� She will be missed by many friends including Irene Brogdon, Jim and Georgia Owens and Laura Majcher.� Betty was a very vivacious person often referred to as a small package of dynamite.� She loved playing softball, gardening and spending time with family and friends, and also she was involved with Cub Scouting for many years.� She loved helping others.� Her caring ways and infectious laugh will live on forever in our hearts.� The family would like to thank the staff at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital for their loving care.� Cremation has taken place.� A memorial service will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, on Wednesday August 7, at 3:00 p.m.� (323-9000).

Ratliff -- John (Jack) D. Ratliff, 78, a native New Mexican and longtime resident of Albuquerque died unexpectedly at his home on the morning of Sunday, August 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Wynona Ratliff; daughters, Rebecca Glenn and husband, Mike, Deborah Mask and husband, Alan, Judith Hoffman and husband, Mitch, and Cassidy Burleson and husband, Dan; son , John D. Ratliff, Jr. and wife, Melody; grandchildren, Aaron and Stephanie, Cassidy and Jerry, Maegan, Brandon, Sarah, J.D., Nathan, Alex, Melissa, Houston, Dylan, and Nick; adopted grandchildren, Katrina and Rich Wright; and great-grandson, Lane Wright. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, David and Rebecca Mask, and brother, Glen Ratliff. John was known to his friends as Jack and to his grandchildren as"Poppy". He was born in Floyd, NM on April 26, 1924 to rancher parents, Wilfred and Myrtle Ratliff. Jack graduated from Floyd High School in 1942. He attended SMU and graduated from ENMU with a degree in Political Science. He was called to the ministry while still in college and pastored Causey Baptist Church until he completed his degree. Jack married Wynona Haragan Ratliff, July 28, 1946. He attended Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and pastored Nortonville Baptist Church. Jack and Wynona were appointed as Southern Baptist missionaries in 1952. They served in Honduras until 1959. They also served in Peru until 1967 where Jack pastored and taught at the Theological Seminary and was legal representative for missionaries. He and Wynona returned to New Mexico in 1967 where Jack worked with the New Mexico Baptist Convention. In 1969, he became Director of the NM Baptist Foundation and Church Loan Corporation until 1975. Jack and Wynona also served as volunteers in Columbia where Jack served as administrator of the Columbia Baptist Mission. In 1975, Jack and Wynona bought Sunset Mesa School. He and Wynona retired in 1998. He served on numerous boards, including New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, Trustee of the Foreign Mission Board, Eastern New Mexico University Regent, Board of NM Baptist Foundation and Church Loan Corporation. Jack was a Rotarian and a member of the Governor's Commission on higher education, along with numerous other boards. Services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9425 Constitution Ave. NE, with Dr. Bob Butler officiating. Steele -- Lena M. Rice Steele, age 74, of Albuquerque, NM, died on August 4, 2002. She was born August 26, 1927, and was preparing to celebrate her 75th birthday. Lena will be having that celebration with her beloved husband of 46 years, H.B."Huggy Bear" Steele who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her mother, Iona Sabra Rice; father, Richard French Rice; and all of her siblings, James, Dorothy, Thomas, Clyde, Beth, Kay, Irene and Joanne. Her daughter, Shauna Iona Steele of Albuquerque; her son, Scott B. Steele his wife, Noel King Steele; and granddaughter, Sabra Steele, all of Albuquerque survive their beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Lena was like a second mother to her many nieces, nephews, and friends from across the country. Her family and friends will miss her exuberant spirit, her sense of play, and her courage. Lena was born in Kenova, West Virginia, and raised in Findlay, Ohio. She moved to Albuquerque with her family in 1973. A lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay, Lena faithfully attended Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Lena devoted her life to public service, retiring from Carrie Tingly Hospital after battling and surviving breast cancer in 1985. Lena was a staunch Democrat, and an avid lifelong sports enthusiast. She was the captain of the Findlay High School Trojan cheerleading squad, where she graduated in 1945. She played for years in the women's softball league, and was invited to play professionally. Her fast pitch was legendary. The Detroit Tigers and the Women's National Basketball Association lost a huge fan. At Lena's request, family and friends will gather at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, for a graveside service on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., with Susan Meredith of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrol Lepper, Shane Riggs, Robbie Farris, Rick Decker, Jan Slaughterbeck, Jerrilyne Miller, and Debie Leeper-Baca. Immediately following the service, the family will host a celebration of Lena's life at the home of Scott, Noel and Sabra Steele, 121 Calle del Ray, NW. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Walker -- Cecil J. Walker, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, first coming in 1941, passed away in his home among his loved ones, on Sunday, August 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Walker of Albuquerque; two daughters, Bonnie Essex of Dayton, OH and Judi Kil and husband, Pat of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Barry and Brian Essex, Danny Hanley, Lori Renee Thomas and Corey Hanley; two brothers, Raymond F. Walker of Centerville, IA and Marion E. Walker and wife, Doris of Norco, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Hanley and Taylor Thomas.� Mr. Walker came to Albuquerque in 1941 where he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base.�He married Mary Elizabeth Kominsky on February 9, 1942 in Albuquerque, before moving to Carlsbad.�In 1945, Mr. Walker was enrolled at the B-29 Flight Engineering Schools, both in Amarillo, TX and Hondo, TX and was also stationed at various New Mexico Air Force Bases.� He served at Ladd Field in Alaska from 1947-1949 and then at Tachikawa Field in Japan from 1954-1957.� Mr. Walker retired from the Air Force in 1971 while at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo.�In 1984, the Walker moved back to Albuquerque.�He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his guitar and spending time with his family.� Services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.�Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.�Pallbearers will be Pat Kil, Barry Essex, Brian Essex, Corey Hanley, Ray Thomas and William Luther.�Military honors will be provided by Kirtland Honor Guard.�Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Wednesday, August 7, 2002, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Hospice Homecare, c/o Presbyterian HealthCare Foundation, PO Box 26666, 87125.�French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

Weiler -- James Courtnay Weiler, born June 27, 1952, in Burlington, Wisconsin to HJ"Doc" and Lena Weiler, died, peacefully at home on August 3, 2002. A resident of Albuquerque since 1960, he graduated from Manzano HS where he played baseball and went on to attend UNM. He was employed as a supervisor by Gerald Martin Construction. His buildings, shopping centers and schools will live on as a tribute to his memory. His family and his friends always had someone they could call on. Jim never met a stranger. He could tell a story like a master and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially fishing. Jim leaves behind Dane, his best friend and loving wife whom he loved dearly; his stepson, Brent and their beloved canine kids, Ricky and Lucy. He was a devoted son to his parents, HJ"Doc" and Lena Weiler, and a loving brother to his sisters, Ann Rhoades and husband, Russ of Albuquerque, Caroline Harrington and husband, Gary of Las Cruces, Cindy Stehle and husband, Bill of Denver, CO, Elaine Geoghegan and husband, Joe of Scottsdale, AZ; his brother, Greg Weiler and wife, Mona of Rowlett, TX, and dearly loved his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey. A memorial celebration will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
