Ball -- Clara D. Ball, age 91, passed away Friday, February 8, 2002 in Albuquerque. She was born October 5, 1910 in Wisconsin to the late Walter and Anna (Klinek) Tylicki. She was a fifty year resident of Albuquerque, a successful businesswoman and a cherished friend who will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Clara D. Ball was a loving wife of fifty-one years to Albert J. Ball. She is also survived by one son , Ronald L. Miller of St. Francis, Wisconsin; one sister , Cordelia Grochowski, South Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one brother , Edward Tylicki, south Milwaukee, Wisconsin; four grandchildren , Sandra Maurer, Douglas Miller, Dorene Miller and Debbie Miller. Four brothers , Roland, Harry, Walter and Adolph Tylicki, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Polish National Catholic Church. Payer services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 7:00 pm in the Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors Chapel, 3113 Carlisle Ave. N.E. Michael Dominguez and Charles Puckett will officiate. Interment will follow later in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at a later date. The arrangements for Clara D. Ball are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors.

Caldwell -- Chester "Chet" Caldwell, passed away suddenly at his home in Albuquerque Saturday, February 9, 2002. He was born in Denver, Colorado to Dorothy and Chester Caldwell in 1932. He graduated from South High School in Denver and attended Colorado University. He has been a McDonald's franchisee, owner/operator in Albuquerque since 1967. Chet's philosophy was to give back to the community. He was involved in many community activities and served on many volunteer boards. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was the president of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the Lobo Club. He was the recipient of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith Distinguished Community Service Award, the Ronald McDonald House Charities "Helping Hands Award," the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award, and the Albuquerque Ronald McDonald Award. He was instrumental in the development of the Albuquerque Ronald McDonald House. He served on the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Board, the Anderson-Abruzzo Balloon Museum Board and The New Mexico State Fair Junior Livestock Board. He was also involved in the family horse business. Chet loved to hunt and fish. He was a dedicated family man, who loved his wife of 46 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports and other activities. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Caldwell of Albuquerque; son, Kevin Caldwell and wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Kylee and Casey Caldwell of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Duane Keating of Edgewood, NM; sister, Lois Petsch of Parker, CO and her children, Michael and Stephen Petsch and Robin Krizan, all of Denver, CO; and sister-in-law, Beth and husband, John Thatcher and their children, John and Tim Thatcher, all of Denver, CO and Katie Carroll of Swink, CO. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristin Caldwell Keating of Edgewood, NM. Feliciano -- Lupe Feliciano Garcia died Friday at the age of 60. She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Sainz; and a nephew, Alejandro Ramirez. She was a beautiful singer, loved to play bingo and gamble in many ways. She had the largest heart to help anybody. She was a great wife and a wonderful mother. She was a member of the Sisters Club. She is survived by her father, Luis Sainz; husband, Jose Garcia; three sons, Louie Montoya, Juan Garcia, and Daniel Feliciano; one daughter, Yvonne Montoya; four brothers Louie, Edward Antonio and Roberto Sainz; six sisters, Lita Cortez, Simona Cordova, Mary Lou Sainz, Rosalina Lucero Linda Ramirez and Mary Esther Candelaria; and 14 grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday at the St. Anne's Catholic church at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at the St. Ann's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial of cremains will follow at the San Jose De Armijo Cemetery. Garcia -- Leroy Garcia was born May 12, 1955 in Tijeras, New Mexico to Tomas and Agripina Garcia. He passed away February 10, 2002 in Albuquerque. Gardner -- Mike Gardner, 37, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 10, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Lauren Gardner of Albuquerque; sons, Jeremy Gardner and Gregory Gardner, both of Denver, CO; parents, Dell and Sharon Gardner of Caputa, SD; brother, Bob Gardner and wife, Jewel of Ft. Bragg, CA; and a large extended family. Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. Garland -- Virgil V. Garland, 84, passed away on Sunday morning, February 10, 2002. He was a member of the Peralta Methodist Church and a resident of Los Lunas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Garland, of CA and Wilam"Babe" of Estancia; his two sisters, Velma, of CA and Mildred Tindell of Estancia; and his parents, Bob and Jessie Garland. Virgil is survived by his children, Barry W. Garland of NV, Greg Garland, and Dana L. Garland, both of CA; his loving wife of 25 years, Janet"Jan" Garland of the family home in Los Chavez; his other children, Harold Edwards of Angel Fire, Todd Mosley of Belen, Debra Melton of Los Lunas; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Pearl Dressler of Mountainair; one brother, Whitey Garland of Los Lunas; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the Estancia Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Garland Cemetery in Mountainair, NM. Healy -- Elbert V. Healy, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Judy and Deborah; and three grandchildren, Anthony, Ashley and Michael. Mr. Healy retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the Navy in 1962 and the FAA in 1984. Services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, Col. USAF, (Ret) officiating. Johnson -- Betty Ann Johnson passed away peacefully on February 7, 2002 at home in Tacoma, WA where she had lived since the summer of 2000. Born in Sayre, OK on December 1, 1926 to Barnett and Vera Bruce, she was raised in Portales, NM. On January 22, 1945, Betty was married to Robert W. Johnson who preceded her in death in January 1998. Their first son, Bruce died as a young child. Betty is survived by daughter, Saundra Brusch (Carter); son, Barry Johnson; daughters, Mary Dinnell (Patrick), Carolyn Johnson (Eric Newhouse); eight grandchildren, Season, Sonia, Colby, Carson Brusch, Jeremiah, Cory, Sara Dinnell, Max Johnson. She is also survived by brothers, Leon, Marion, and Thomas Bruce. Betty adored her dog, Nala. After traveling with the USAF, Betty and Bob settled in Albuquerque in 1966. Betty worked at J.C. Pennys for a few years and then became a licensed real estate agent. She was an active member of the Officers Wives Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member and past president of the Ostomy Association in Albuquerque. She volunteered many hours at the Kirkland AFB Thrift Shop. Services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque with viewing at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society. Also, family and friends will be running as the"Betty Parade Team" in ACS fund-raiser in June, 2002. Lavail -- Melvin Maurice LaVail, 72, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty R. LaVail of Albuquerque; sister, Billie Jean LaVail of Albuquerque; sons, Melvin B. LaVail of Longmont, CO, Maurice Steele LaVail of Albuquerque and Forrest R. LaVail of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Adam LaVail of Santa Fe, Amber LaVail of San Francisco, CA, Sterling LaVail, Joelle Baca, Juliette Baca, all of Albuquerque, Marcus LaVail of Aurora, CO and Lauren LaVail of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Acanaan LaVail and Gabriel LaVail, both of Santa Fe; and nephews, Matt LaVail of San Francisco, CA and Fred LaVail of Irving, TX. Mr. LaVail was originally from the state of Mississippi where he met and married his wife. He joined the Air Force in 1951, serving a distinguished 25-year career as both a nuclear engineer and pilot, including a tour of duty in Vietnam where he flew the F4 Phantom Fighter/Bomber. In 1976, Mr. LaVail retired from the Air Force with the rank of Lt. Colonel and turned his attention to a new career in land development. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and particularly flying which began in his teen years and continued even after his Air Force retirement. Mr. LaVail truly loved entertaining and being surrounded by family and friends, especially hosting outdoor summer barbeques by the pool. The LaVail family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff on 4-D at the V.A. Hospital for the wonderful and loving care they provided for Melvin. Lisk -- In Loving Memory, Della Louise Lisk. Our mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 02, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Mountainair, NM. She was born October 20, 1918 in Cedarvale, NM to Robert D. and Edith B Hileman. Della was active in the ladies auxiliary and American Legion. She retired from Mountainair Grocery after 37 years of dedicated service. She was an excellent seamstress and loved gardening. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvie E. Lisk; one sister, Ruth LaPrade; three brothers, Bobby, Dan and Homer Hileman; a set of infant twin siblings; and one son-in-law, Jack Redfearn. Della is survived by one daughter, Edith Redfearn of Belen; two sons, Joe Lisk and his wife, Ursula of Canada and Jerry Lisk and his wife, Holly of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Ron Redfearn and his wife, Colleen of Farmington, Kerri Allgood and her husband, Lance of Gallup, Bobby and Jessie Lisk of Canada, and Mathew and Jonathan Lisk of Rio Rancho; great-grandchildren, Dana and Jake Redfearn of Farmington; and two sisters, Alice Ward and Isabelle"Isie" Teague and her husband, Nick. She is also survived by and will be greatly missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Della will be remembered for her kindness, tenacity, unforgettable laughter, friendly smile and her concern for everyone. With utmost love, as Della wished, cremation has taken place. Loetzer -- Stanley Theodore Loetzer joined his Father in Heaven Saturday, February 9, 2002. He was born April 30, 1920 in New Brunswick, NJ to Frederick and Elsie Loetzer and was a longtime resident of Edison, NJ. He has been a resident of Rio Rancho since 1981. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Vernon Palmer Loetzer; and by grandson, Michael Donald Dougherty. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Patrick Loetzer of Rio Rancho; daughter, Patricia and husband, Don Dougherty, Lynbrook, NY; daughter, Jil and husband, Alan Konopacki, Edison, NJ; step-daughter, Dale and husband, Michael Curtis, Glorieta, NM; step-son, Scott and wife, Sharon Patrick, Rio Rancho; step-son, Gregg Patrick, Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Jane, Ellen, and Sean Dougherty, step-grandchildren, Kelley and Sean Patrick, Amanda Curtis, and Lara Curtis and her daughters, Courtney and Abby. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by numerous friends and colleagues."Stan" was a Veteran of WWII, serving three years in the Pacific Theater in the 32nd Division, 127th Regiment, C Company. As a US Army combat medic, he was a member of a paratroop unit involved in the liberation of the Philippines and received a purple heart for injuries received in that conflict. Following his military honorable discharge, he attended Rutgers University and worked for New Jersey Bell for 30 years, starting as a lineman and retiring in 1975 as a Division Manager. As a teenager before the war, Stan was a charter member of the Edison #1 Rescue Squad, Edison, NJ. For over ten years following the war, he served as both member and Captain of the squad, and instructed First Aid to area Boy and Girl Scouts. He attended nursing school following his retirement to gain the knowledge to serve others, and ultimately used his education to care for his first wife throughout an extended illness. He was an active Edison member of the Masonic Lodge, and served as President of the Edison Lions Club. In Rio Rancho, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Throughout his life, Stan was active in church and civic endeavors. The Presbyterian churches in New Brunswick and Rio Rancho were beneficiaries of his repeated service as an elder and constant choir member. He also served as Superintendent of Christian Education for the New Brunswick Church. He was a Past-President of the Albuquerque Ronald McDonald House and was a Board member for that group for 20 years. A member of the Telephone Pioneers, he was Chaplain of the local Rio Rancho chapter at the time of death. On the Board of Directors of the Rio Rancho Storehouse West since its inception in 1992, he was President at the time of his death and provided many hours of volunteer service each week to its mission of providing food to those in need. Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 1004 24th Street, Rio Rancho. Rev. Dr. Larry Hitchens will officiate. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in memory of his civic service to the charity of choice.

Lynch -- Sandy Marie Lynch, 51, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1985 and coming to New Mexico from Washington, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2002. Sandy was born July 17, 1950 the daughter of Wilfred and Ruth Weisflock Speck in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, CA. She had been an education assistant at the Enchanted Hills Elementary School. Sandy was a very loving person, she always put everyone else above herself. She was a real animal lover too. She was preceded in death by her father in 1987. Sandy is survived by her husband, Mickie of Rio Rancho; mother, Ruth Willetts of San Diego, CA; two children, Sarah Lynch and fiance, Elijah Cavinder of Rio Rancho and Jeff Lynch and wife, Sherie of Virginia; one sister, Susan Ponce and husband, Julio of San Diego, CA; and two nieces, Renee and Lisa of San Diego, CA. Sandy's companion of 17 years,"Frisco", her beloved cat, passed away on February 11, 2002 to join her. Maestas -- Juan I. Maestas, age 89, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord our Savior, Sunday, February 10, 2002, while surrounded by his loving family. Juan was born in La Jara, NM to the late Andres and Mereneiana Maestas. He was a lifelong resident of Bernalillo and a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Juan was a rancher and farmer. He was very involved in politics so much that he was proud to be a great part in the Mayoral election of Bernalillo for the late Ernie Aguilar. He held numerous jobs in his lifetime. He will always be remembered as very loving, devoted, and generous man with a sense of humor to appreciate. He especially loved spending time with his precious grandchildren and his family. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Gabriel and Richard Maestas; and son-in-law, Ernie Aguilar. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Fannie C. Maestas of the family home; his children, Julia McClain and husband, John III, Ramon Maestas and wife, Hermie, Juan I. Maestas Jr. and wife, Tillie, Viola M. Garcia and husband, Ross, Porfiro Maestas and wife, Pat, Mary Kay Aguilar, Frank A. Maestas and wife, Erlinda, Donald A. Maestas and wife, Barbara; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are Juan's brothers and sisters, Andres Maestas Jr. and wife, Carolina, Alex Maestas and wife, Texann, Bennie Maestas and wife, Reina, Nemesina Baca, Petrita Lucero and husband, Pedro, Maria Garcia and husband, Lano, Ella Hill and husband, Don, Lucinda Chavez, Dolores Lovato and husband, Frank, and Susie Segura; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Juan will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Final viewing will be Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. also at the church, followed by the celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Masolo -- David Charles Masolo, 36, of Townsend died Saturday, February 9, 2002 after a five-month battle with cancer. David was born January 5, 1966 in Helena, MT at St. John's Hospital to Bob and Gay Ann Masolo of Townsend. He married Pamela Michele C. DeBaca on October 17, 1992 in Bernalillo, NM. They shared many loves and same interests in their short time together. They moved to Townsend in 1998 where they wanted a family to enjoy the companionship of grandparents. The birth of his son, Leandro Robert on March 16, 1999 was one of David's most treasured moments. David was a 1984 graduate of Broadwater County High School, where he was Salutatorian for his class. He attended Boy's State, served as a Senate Page, was a member of the National Honor Society, received the Presidential Award, served as a class officer and lettered in one of his favorite sports, football for four years. He enjoyed the Montana Junior Rodeo Circuit, where he often won all - around honors. He attended Montana State University his freshman year and transferred to Gonzaga University his sophomore year, graduating in May 1989, in accounting, Magna Cum Laude. He passed the CPA exam after graduating and went to work for Ernst-Young Accounting firm in Seattle for one year. He determined this was not something he wanted to spend the rest of his life doing. He went to Albuquerque, NM to visit his aunt and uncle, finding the love of his life, wife, Pamela and started his own business, Montana Construction, which he ran for seven years. When he moved to Townsend, he was employed at Townsend Seeds. David was known for his sense of humor and quick wit, often-impersonating friends or celebrities. He loved calling his friends and relatives and"feeding them a line". He always had deep compassion toward the"underdog" and was very kindhearted. He loved animals, especially his dog"Yellow Dog" and cat"Fish". His hobbies were downhill skiing, team roping, farming, drives in the country, enjoying the outdoors and being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; son, Leandro; parents; grandmother, Wilma Masolo; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Martin Molina; and brother-in-law, Paul C. Mcguinness -- Mena Beatrice McGuinness Died Sunday at the age of 84. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard McGuinness; daughter, Mable Vigil and son, Harry McGuinness. She is survived by four sons, Ricardo McGuinness, Wilber Mcguinness and wife, Geraldine, Charles and Jimmy McGuinness; three daughters, Yvonne Salazar and husband, Fidel, Debra Marquez and husband Anthony and Ramona Rodriguez, numerous grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Montoya -- Joe Ware Montoya, 87, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 9, 2002. He was born on June 7, 1914 in Socorro, NM. He served in the U.S. Army overseas in World War II and worked for 42 years for the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Bettyť Montoya; and by his son, Ricardo Montoya; and his daughter, Loretta Hernandez Roybal. He is survived by two sons, Andrew J. Montoya and Rudy A. Montoya; four daughters, Rita Dvorak, Betty Jo Lopez, Mercedes Montoya, and Barbara Lovato; one sister, Raquel Saavadra; and numerous nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. He was loved very much. Perez -- Sammye Kaye Perez, 57, of Round Rock, TX formerly of Albuquerque, NM was born on December 8, 1944 in Sherman, TX and passed away on February 3, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Verga Mae Umphress McKown. Sammye enjoyed nature, arts and crafts, loved animals, especially dogs and cats and was a psychiatric nurse for 20 years. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 12 years, Pedro Perez of Albuquerque; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jim Pitt of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Sherrie Wible of Denison; grandchildren, Sam and Jordan Pitt, Nathan, Devin and Gilliam Wible. Proo -- Alyce Proo (1922-2002) Alyce Herrera Proo, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and auntie, went home to be with the Lord and to her family waiting there for her in Heaven on February 8, 2002. Alyce grew up in Albuquerque's Atrisco neighborhood with her family, the Herreras, until she moved with her family to California where she has lived for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Proo; a beloved grandson, Ronnie Jones; her parents, Epimenio and Placida Herrera; sisters Eufelia Armijo, Sarah Lujan and brothers Harry, Epi and Albert Herrera. She is survived by her children, Yvonne Galyon and husband, Glen; Yolanda Jones and husband, John; Michael Proo and wife, Becky; and Tommy Jones. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride-and-joy and she will be missed by all of them. She loved the Los Angeles Dodgers and will always be remembered for the way she would sit and listen to the games on the television and radio to cheer them on. In victory and defeat, she always referred to them as,"her Dodgers." Her many relatives in Albuquerque will miss her funny laughter that made everyone laugh too. She never stopped loving New Mexico and missed the red chile, the mountains and the little house across the street from Holy Family Church where she was raised. Services were held Tuesday in Torrance, CA, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. She will be buried with her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Calif.

Rizzoli -- Capt. Brian David Rizzoli, 27, born April 6, 1974 died on February 2, 2002 while on a routine military Air Force flight in South Dakota. A Sandia High School honor graduate, Brian then attended the US Air Force Academy. He excelled in all areas-academics, military, and athletics. While majoring in Operations Research, he held positions of authority in the Wing Command, was squadron leader, and was captain and MVP of the Air Force Gymnastic team. He graduated with military and academic honors. Brian continued on to pilot school and was most recently stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. He often stated that he couldn't imagine a career that didn't allow him to fly. Brian is survived by his wife, Jennifer; six-month-old daughter, Sara; parents, Al and Maureen Rizzoli; brothers, Darren, Mark and Brad; sister, Kayla; grandmother, Mary Elena Franklin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brian will be laid to rest at the Air Force Academy, CO. Turrietta -- Juan Liberato Turrietta, 1960 - 2002.ť"Big John" was born in Socorro, NM., April 4, 1960. He passed away in Albuquerque February 9, 2002. He was a well-known DJ, and will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him. John loved his music. He grew up in the Barelas Community and helped many children at the Zodiac Mobile Music in Los Lunas. John loved to coach basketball and his favorite things were music, camping, and fishing.
