Armijo -- Patty Jacobs March Persico Gibson Armijo passed away April 13, 2001 she was born in Santa Fe, NM on December 18, 1950.And at the hour of our death, So terrible and full of danger, When our strength is waning And our spirits are sinking And our souls and bodies Are worn out with fear and pain Pray for us then At the hour of our death.Patty is survived by her sister, Jo Reece March Mares and her husband, Gary of Corrales, NM; her husband, Paul Armijo; and five children, Melissa Stafford Persico Carbe and Amy Elizabeth Persico Dalesandro in Pennsylvania, Michelle Kathlyn Gibson Garcia in Santa Fe, NM and Sarah March Armijo and Paul Steven Armijo Jr. in Corrales, NM; her three grandchildren are Brianna Elizabeth Dalesandro, Erica Nicole Dalesandro, and Karly Monique Garcia. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Faith 311 E. Palace Ave. followed by a reception there in Palen Hall at 12:00 p.m. Burial of the cremains will follow directly after the reception at Fairview Cemetery. Atencio -- Cora M. Atencio went home to be with the Lord April 16, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Toby V. Atencio of Albuquerque; four children, Jeannie Mondragon and husband, Joe of Clarendon, TX; Kathy Atencio, Toby Ray Atencio and wife, Janet, and Richard Atencio and wife, Emma of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Janiah, and Jacob Mondragon, Zachary and Luis Atencio, and Brandy, Jennifer, Taylor, and Quentin Atencio, and six sisters, Elia Trujillo and husband, Steve, Evelyn Castner, Carla Brewster, and Priscilla Brigham of Albuquerque, Rosalie Martinez and husband, Jay of Santa Fe, and Olinda Grimley of LA, Calif. Cora taught at Bernalillo Elementary School for 40 years from 1954 to 1994. She was loved by three generations of students. She taught Spanish at St. Johns United Methodist pre-school for the last seven years. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible school at Second Presbyterian Church and was a deacon there. Mark 10:14 Let the little children come to me. Mark 10:16 And she took the children in her arms and blessed them. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 20, 2001 at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd NE, at 10:30 a.m.. Gifts should be sent to Second Presbyterian Church in her memory. Carroll -- Billy M. Carroll, 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Monday, April 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Isabel Baca Carroll; daughters, Dorothy Carroll and husband, Henny Allen, Lydia Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll and husband, Mike Koski, all of Albuquerque; sons, Robert Carroll and wife, Charlene of Manassas, VA and Billy Carroll and wife, Melissa of Albuquerque; stepsons, Jim Satches and Tommy Larkey, both of Albuquerque; ex-wife, Charlene Koski of Rio Rancho; eight grandchildren; brothers, Pete Carroll and Leon Carroll, both of Lawton, OK; and step-sister, Nada Knowles of Pauls Valley, OK. Mr. Carroll proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force and an additional 20 years as a Civil Servant at Kirtland AFB. Services will be held Friday, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW, with Deacon Gene Tuma officiating. Interment will take place at 12:00 o'clock noon, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with full military honors provided by KAFB Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jim Satches, Robert Carroll, Billy Carroll, Tom Larkey, Henny Allen and Fred Gutierrez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Louie Martinez, Stan Koski, Rick Salazer and NA Collins. Cole -- Robert J."Bob", affectionately known as"RJ" to his many friends, passed away at age 73, on Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the NM Veteran's Center in T or C, NM. Bob is survived by his five daughters, Sherri Hart, Robin Saiz and husband, Archie, Lisa Romero and husband, Charles, all of Albuquerque, Margaret Martinez and husband, Cris of Sandia Park, Donna Schmitt and husband, Greg of Santa Fe; and grandchildren, Paloma, Danelle, Nathaniel, Matthew, Clint, Lindsey, Lance, and Jonathan; two brothers, William Cole and Richard Cole of California. His parents, Marjorie Jarett Cole and William Cole and his sister, Carolyn Yano preceded Bob in death. Bob was born in Jamestown, NY on June 10, 1927. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, in the European Theater. Bob was a well-known building contractor in New Mexico and had many friends through out the state. At Bob's request, he was cremated and his ashes will be buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in the near future.

Copeland -- James D. Copeland, 85, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 of complications from emphysema. Born April 21, 1915 in Elkins, NM ninth of ten children, he had a fascinating life. Joining the Navy in 1939, he became a pilot and served in the Pacific. He met his beloved wife of 46 years, Margaret in Australia. Retiring in London in 1963, he returned to New Mexico and lived here the remainder of his life. Independent to the end, he walked to the hospital one week before he passed away. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela of New Jersey and her husband, Michael; son, Robert and his wife, Karen of Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret. Cremation has taken place.

Cowles -- Steven W. Cowles, 48, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, April 15, 2001. He is survived by his father, Terry Cowles of Albuquerque; sister, Lynda Turner and husband, Frank of Albuquerque; brother, Mike Cowles and wife, Ruth Anne of Farmington; nieces, Rena Treacher and husband, Eric and Riki Bronstein and husband, Jeff, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Chris Cowles and wife, Angela, Ryan Cowles, all of Albuquerque, and Cody Cowles of Farmington; great nephews, Jake and Jon Bronstein of Albuquerque; special friend and cousin, Mitch Chapman of Council Bluffs, IA; and numerous relatives and friends and many hunting buddies. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Cowles in 1987. Steve was born in Albuquerque and graduated from Sandia High School in 1971. He loved hunting, fishing and the beauty of the mountains. Steve was a superb artist in drawing and sculpting. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial reception will be held Friday, April 20, 2001, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at his father's residence. Garcia -- Elizabeth Anne Garcia, 57, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed from this earth on Tuesday, April 17, 2001. Elizabeth, beloved grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, lived her life of 57 years to the fullest. She made time for everyone, never judging anyone, she gave and forgave. She truly walked the path of Christ having many friends in all walks of life. Born in Albuquerque to Jenny and Augustine Sanchez on December 6, 1943, she is preceded in death by her father, Augustine Sanchez; brother, Donald Sanchez; and aunt, Barbara S. Chavez. She is survived and mourned by her husband, Lorenzo J. Garcia; son, Lorenzo Garcia; daughter, Barbara Gurule and husband, Ernest; mother, Jenny Sanchez; brother, Joseph Stanley Sanchez and wife, Lupe; six grandchildren, Christina, Angelica, Timothy, Angel, Brandi, and Lori; nephew, Christian Sanchez; niece, Stacie Scharton and husband, Tim, and their daughter, Aubrey. Visitation for Elizabeth will be held Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, located between Iron and Stover on 8th Street. Kottlowski -- Frank E. Kottlowski, 80, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on April 11, 1921 to Frank Charles and Adela (Markworth) Kottlowski near Indianapolis, IN. Frank was an aerial navigator and photographic interpreter for the 8th Air Force from 1942-1945. He attended Indiana University and received his B.A. in Geology in 1947, his M.A. in Structural Geology in 1949 and Ph.D. in Economic Geology in 1951. In 1951, he accepted a position at the New Mexico Bureau of Mines as an economic geologist. He was the Director and State Geologist of the bureau from 1974 to 1991 when he retired. Upon retirement, he received Emeritus status from New Mexico Tech. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Kottlowski. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence (Chrisco) of their home in Socorro; daughters, Karen Harvey and her husband, Albert of Brigham City, UT, Jan Wallace of Socorro and Dianna Schoderbek and her husband, David of Farmington, NM; grandchildren, Zachariah Wallace and wife, Tanya, Adam Harvey and wife, Angela, Benjamin Harvey and wife, Stacy, Donald Schoderbek and Florence Schoderbek; three great-grandchildren, Rick Harvey, Frank Harvey and Kate Harvey. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 21 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Macey Center on the New Mexico Tech campus. Frank's Cremains will be interred in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Lopez -- Alfonso Lopez, age 87, died on April 14, 2001 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Facility in Raton. He was born on December 10, 1913 in Colmor, the son of the late Sabino and Salome (Fernandez) Lopez. He was a resident of Ocaste and belonged to Our lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Ocate. He was a WW II Veteran having served in the European Theatre, a member of the VFW in Mora County, he was County Commissioner and Sheriff of Mora County and worked for the New Mexico State Highway Dept. until his retirement. He also ranched in the Wagon Mound and Ocate areas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma T. Lopez, brother, Felipe Lopez, a sister, Amalia Arguello and grandson, Landon Dale Lopez. Survivors include his son, Ernest Lopez and wife, Sherrill of Cimarron; daughter, Christine Montoya of Santa Fe; brothers, Jose G. Lopez, Wagon Mound, Gilbert S. Lopez, Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren, Lanier Lopez, Bethesda, Maryland, Wesley Lopez, Las Cruces, Lance Lopez, Cimarron, NM. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary was held on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Ocate. Martin -- William C."Cliff" Martin, 91, passed away April 16, 2001 at his home in Cedar Crest, NM. Mr. Martin was born July 19, 1901 in Twin Falls, ID and grew up in San Simon, AZ. He was in the Marine Corps during WWII, moved to Albuquerque in 1931 where he retired from the railroad as a mail clerk. During his lifetime, he enjoyed and was an avid tennis player. He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise who passed away in 1981. He is survived by his son, Donald K. Martin; daughter, Sandra J. Matthews, both of Cedar Crest, NM; grandchildren, Preston Matthews and his wife, Sayuri of Santa Fe, NM, Lisa Pinney, Karl Martin of Albuquerque, Monica Holt and her husband, Greg of Williamsberg, VA; and five great-grandchildren. Pike -- Henry"Hank" Pike, 66, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died on Monday, April 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Vangie Pike; daughters, Melody Nagel and husband, Roger of Albuquerque, Laura Wilson and husband, Jeffrey of Bellevue, NE and Karla Silver and husband, Jim of Madrid, IA; step-daughter, Geri Madrid and husband, Domingo of Las Vegas, NM; step-son, Garry Jacobs of Albuquerque; nine granddaughters; one grandson and brother, Robert Pike and wife, Ruth of Albuquerque. Hank was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Pike. He was retired from the Air Force and a former member of the American Legion Post 49. Platero -- Patrick Pius Platero, 47, born on May 12, 1954, passed away April 17, 2001. He was a native of Tohjajillee, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Jayme Smith-Platero of Window Rock, Arizona; six daughters, Shelly Platero-Reyna and husband, Steve; and Krystal Platero; sons, Edward Platero, Davis Platero, Eric Francisco and wife, Roglinda and Weslee Platero; five grandbabies, Christopher, Kyle, Kaylan Reyna, Erica Francisco and Ashley Platero. He is also survived by his parents, Dillon and Rose Platero; sisters, Shirley Tapia, Mary Sherman, Antoinette Day, Patricia Soto and Maria Diaz, brothers, Gregory Platero and William Platero; and many relatives and friends. A career lawman, he spent twenty-four years with the Navajo Police Department. His many years studying law enforcement procedures and tactics made him a highly experienced law officer. Salazar -- Bessie Vicenta Salazar went to be with her Lord Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 5:35 p.m. Bessie was born in Seboyeta, New Mexico on December 2, 1935, to Tranquilino and Louisa Marquez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tranquilino and Louisa Marquez and her beloved husband, Fidel. Bessie is survived by her children, Donna and husband, Jim, Samuel Salazar, Albert Salazar and wife, Regina, Gayle Leon and husband, Lawrence; her sisters, Jennie Gonzales and husband, Raymond, Tina Garcia and husband, Dori; her grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Andres and Isabel Leon, James and Katie Lovato, Alicia and Amber Salazar, and Gabriel Salazar. She is also survived by nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Bessie was born and raised in Seboyeta, New Mexico. She took care of her mom and her sisters after the untimely death of their dad. Bessie married a handsome young man named Fidel Salazar on December 14, 1957. They both worked hard all their lives and raised four children together. After the death of her husband, Fidel, in September of 1985, Bessie continued to work at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bessie retired from St. Joseph's Hospital only to begin working at St. Edwin's Church as their Religious Education Coordinator. Bessie lived a blessed life and was an excellent example to us all. She had a heart of gold. Bessie loved the Lord and exemplified that love by her daily walk. Bessie touched many lives during her short stay here on earth. She will be missed by so many people and leaves a void that will be very difficult to fill. Her children would like to extend their gratitude to the many friends and family members who brought flowers, cards or food, called or prayed. Sanchez -- Esperidion Sanchez passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family on Wednesday, April 17, 2001 he was 89 years old. He was born in the Territory of New Mexico on December 20, 1911. Esperidion was also known as"Speter" or"Speedy". He was a widower who lost his wife, Maria Maez Sanchez on January 8, 1999 shortly after moving back to Albuquerque after living in California for 47 years. He is survived by his son, John; his deceased son Richard's widow, Julianna; his son, Larry and his wife, Yolanda; his only daughter, Joyce and her husband, John. He was a remarkable grandfather who brought great joy to his 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He has one sister, Predicanda and her husband, Nash; and one sister-in-law, Oralia Sanchez and her husband, Manuel; and very special nieces and their husbands. A private Memorial Communion Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, with Deacon Tibo Chavez officiating. Taylor -- Erby Matthew Taylor, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Sunday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris and grandson, Michael Sodeman in 1995. He is survived by daughter, Barbara Applegate, of Oregon; brother, Loren O. Taylor, of New Mexico; sisters, Mattie Thatcher, of Texas; Ida Sue Abourezk and her husband, William, of Colorado; sister-in-law, Betty Taylor, of Albuquerque; grandson, James W. Sodeman and his wife, Michelle; and their children, Matthew and Brontae, all of Oregon; granddaughter, Debbie L. Roelle and her husband, Jim; and their children, Austin, Tye and Justine, all of Oregon; Penny Sodeman, of Indiana; four nephews and seven nieces. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, with Pastor Winfred Walker officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors are in charge of his arrangements.
