Cooper -- Beatriz C. Cooper, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday August 14, 2000 after a longtime illness. She will be missed by her sister, Priscilla Berry; and all her family and friends. Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the First Unitarian Church, located at 3701 Carlisle NE, in Albuquerque. Special thanks to The Cottages for the great care and love they provided her in her last years with us. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the First Unitarian Church, where she was a charter member.

Darwin -- Ray S. Darwin, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2000. Mr. Darwin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Darwin; sons, Jim Darwin and wife, Joanna of San Diego, CA and Tom Darwin of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jim Darwin of Las Vegas, NV, Tom Darwin and wife, Maki of San Diego, CA, George Darwin and wife, Kimberly of Biloxi, MS, Ben Darwin and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Evan Darwin, Paige Darwin and Alex Darwin. Ray was known for his love of, and work in, the automobile industry (he owned Darwin Buick in Albuquerque from 1950-1965), his commitment to the Ballut Abyad Temple, and more importantly his devotion to his family and friends. Many thanks to Inell and Dolores of Inez Place for the loving care they provided to Ray. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the Central United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner Hospital for Children or the Central United Methodist Church.

Elliott -- Ruth Mable Elliott (Dean), 98, passed away Thursday and went to a better place. Ruth moved to Estancia in 1914 from Seminole, Texas and attended school in Estancia, graduating in 1922. She taught school in Estancia systems for many years. Ruth married Marion lee Elliott in 1942 and later ranched in the Estancia Valley for many years. Ruth was preceded in death by Lee Elliott. Ruth was the daughter of rancher William Paul Dean and Maggie E. Dean of Estancia. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Dean, Major Dean; and sisters, Flora Mae Estes and Hazel Denham. She is survived by her sister, Pauline Nidey of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Torrance County Sheriff's Possee and the Cow Bells of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Assn. Viewing will be from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be in the Estancia Cemetery, Monday, August 28, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, are in charge of arrangements.

Felts -- Millard H. Felts, age 91, passed away on August 2232, 2000 at the Sierra Health Care Center in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. A former longtime resident of Albuquerque, he retired from the AT & SF Railroad in 1958. He was born on September 2, 1908 in Macksville, Kansas, the son of George M. and the former Effie B. (Keith) Felts. Mr. Felts married Ethel E. (Beye) on September 28, 1927 in Dodge City, Kansas and she preceded him in death on March 28, 1999. A resident of Truth or Consequences since 1987, he was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 13 AF&AM; enjoyed woodworking, jewelry making, fishing and hunting. He leaves to mourn his passing, his two sons, Howard Lee Felts of Truth or Consequences, Harold Dee Felts of Palacios, TX; five grandsons, Dr. Ricky D. Felts of Truth or Consequences, Millard Dee Felts of Silver City, James Felts of Los Lunas, David Felts of Louisiana and Steven Felts of Artesia, NM; two granddaughters, Vicki Lee Rutan of Tulsa, OK and Janet Lynn Felts of Waco, TX; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Mary Nadean Dawson. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2000, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of French Mortuary (TorC). Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Ann Madden officiating. Servings as pallbearers will be Dr. Rick Felts, Jim Felts, Matt Felts, Dave Rutan, Andy Rutan and Bob Wickems. Interment will be in the Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery. Hampton -- John"Gardner" Hampton went to be with our Lord on August 24, 2000, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Acomita, NM, after a lengthy illness. Gardner was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 21, 1935 to Juan Franco Delgado and Loella Rivers. He was the eldest of a family of four, of whom all preceded him in death. He served in the Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict, and was Honorably discharged in 1960. He also served in the National Guard. He was also a highly respected businessman/contractor, and built numerous homes throughout New Mexico. He worked in the uranium mining industry for numerous mining companies throughout New Mexico. His most prized accomplishment was that of being an Ordained Minister. He was proud of being the Sheriff's Chaplain of Cibola County. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hampton of Acoma, NM. They had recently celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends on February 5th of this year, their actual wedding was February 6th of 1954. He is also survived by his children, Veronica Salvador (deceased), John G. Hampton III and his wife, Elaine of Bremerton, WA, Donald W. Hampton and his wife, Eugenia of Albuquerque, Mark T. Hampton and his wife, Beverly of Port Orchard, WA, Anita J. Herberling and her husband, Mike of Port Orchard, WA, Josephine M. Gardner and her recently deceased husband, Jeffery of Hatch, NM, Margarita V. Oritz and her husband, Dwayne of Acoma, NM, Aurelia L. Siow and her husband, James of Milan, NM, Celia J. Hampton of Acoma, NM; his 26 grandchildren include Lorie June, Clorinda Ann, Myron James, twins, Annette Marie and Jeanette Marie, Leslie Deanne, Gregory Thaddeus, Thaddeus Eugene, Matthew Odell, Shoshoni Don, River Wind, Vanessa Renee, Daniel, David, Annette, Dwayne Michael, Franklin Joshua, Nicole Marie, Felicia, David, Caitlin Jean, Jamie, James"Hawk", Jocelyn Mae, Josiah Caleb, Mary Anita, and Bubba; his 12 great-grandchildren include Salvador, Tessa, Kristen, CJ, Austyn, Traci, Dominique, Veronica"Nicca", Eric Jr., Elaine, Troy and Esperanza; his many nieces and nephews still reside in and around Saginaw, MI. His wake will be held at the family home at Acoma Skyline #52, Acomita, NM, on Friday, August 25th, at 7:00 p.m. Services to be held on Saturday, August 26th at Family Life Assembly of God (1 mile east of San Fidel, NM) at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow services at Mount of Peace Cemetery in McCartys, NM. Obenauf -- Carl L. Obenauf, 82, died Friday, August 18, 2000 from complications of diabetes. He was born April 24, 1918 in West Bethlehem, PA, the son of Mary Elizabeth Sullenberger and Rev. Henry Francis Obenauf. He graduated from Lawrence Park High School, Lawrence Park, PA. Following graduation from Wittenberg College, Springfield, OH in 1939, he spent the summer traveling in Germany on an exchange program. He worked at a settlement house in Chicago while earning a Master's degree in Social Work. He and his college sweetheart, Frances Ann Lawwill, were married on November 19, 1941. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943, and was back in Germany with the Army following WWII. After discharge in 1946, he returned to social work, working at settlement house in New Orleans, Chicago, and St. Louis. He later worked for the United Way (Shelby United Neighbors) in Memphis before coming to Albuquerque in 1968 as Executive Director of the Community Council of the United Way. He retired from the United Way in 1983. Ann Obenauf died in 1997. They had been active members of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral since 1968. Carl is survived by his son, Thomas Obenauf and wife, Gretchen Senter Obenauf of Albuquerque; daughter, Rebecca Martin and husband, Everett of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Richard and Elisabeth Obenauf of Albuquerque and John Martin and wife, Julia of Tempe; and brother, Frank Obenauf of Clearwater, FL. Service will be held Saturday, August 26, 1:00 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW, the Rev. Canon Byron McDougall, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Endowment Fund of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW 87102 or to a social services charity of your choice. Oliver -- Florence Oliver died peacefully at home in Rio Rancho, on August 20 following a brief illness. She was born as Florence Almira Damoth on September 14, 1907 in Reed City, Michigan. As a young adult, Florence lived most of her life in Denver, Colorado and then Santa Fe and even Espanola. She moved to Trail, Oregon in the early 1960s and stayed there until she returned to New Mexico with her daughter, Phyllis Brashar in 1994. While living in Trail, Oregon, Florence married her third husband and one true love, Ken Oliver in August of 1970. He died about a year later, but her time with Ken was said to have been the happiest of her long life. She was active in many local artist clubs and she became an accomplished painter. She loved to cook and for a few years in the late 1960s, she operated and ran a small cafe,"The Shack", near the Rogue River in Shady Cove, Oregon. Other than painting, her favorite hobby was fishing for salmon and trout in the coastal rivers of southern Oregon. Florence was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Brashar; and her sister, Arlee Ragsdale. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her three grandchildren and their families, Cliff and Larrea Brashar of Albuquerque, Gary and Lynn Brashar of Trinidad, CO, and Lynda Brashar of San Juan Pueblo, NM. Florence had true class, she loved life, she lived a full life, and she made true friends out of those she met along the way. If you knew her, your life was richer for the experience. Many thanks to all who cared for her as her life came to an end. The family is particularly grateful to the caring staff and her friends at Acantilado Vista in Rio Rancho. Smith -- Elva Gertrude Smith, 87, died August 22, 2000 in Phoenix, AR. She is survived by her son, Bill Smith and wife, Darla of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Todd Smith of Farmington, NM, LaShawnda Siemsen and husband, Casey of Fresno, CA, and Cody Smith of Albuquerque; three great-grandchildren, Aleice Smith and Chelsea Smith, both of Ft. Worth, TX, Brandon Smith of Fresno, CA; sister, Yvonne Munn of Prescott, AR; brothers, Ellis Smith of Prescott, AR, and Harold Smith of Texarkana, TX. She was a former longtime resident of Albuquerque, where she retired from Sears. After retiring, she moved to Ruidoso in 1972, where she lived until 1998 when she moved to Arizona. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Albuquerque and Chapter No. 65 in Ruidoso. Services will be held Monday, August 28, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Stewart -- Alfred (Al) M. Stewart, a resident of Albuquerque since 1942, passed away suddenly of an abdominal aneurism on August 19, 2000 in Elk City, OK. Al was born in San Angelo, TX on November 24, 1933. He was a machinist by trade and worked for American Car Foundry (ACF). He was a pioneer in the automotive wrecking and towing business. Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Joy Stewart; and daughter, Rita Griego. He is survived by his two sons, Steven Stewart and wife, Debbie, Delbert Stewart and wife, Gail; daughter, Beverly Stewart; five grandchildren, Bryan and Krystal Stewart, Doren, Aubrey and Cheyenne Griego; and son-in-law, David Griego. Also three four-legged grandkids, Peaches, Lucky and Rascal Stewart; two brothers, Foster Atkins and Joe Stewart; and sister, Betty O'Bryan, all of San Angelo, TX. Al will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2000, 4:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 8904 Menaul NE, Albuquerque, NM, with Matthew Holt officiating. Tesillo -- Emilio Sosa Tesillo, 76, born May 22, 1924, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2000 in Hobbs. He is survived by his sister, Genovive Bueno of Artesia; daughter, Marie E. Ortega (Tina) of Tijeras; sons, Victor Tesillo of Albuquerque, Jerry Tesillo of Lovington; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial was in Lovington, NM on Tuesday, August 22, 2000. He will be missed greatly.

Turrietta -- Mrs. Lucille S. Turrietta, 83, a resident of Albuquerque was called by our Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2000. She was born on March 24, 1918 in Magdalena, NM. She died immediately from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She joins her husband of 58 years, James G. Turrietta, who died August 25, 1995. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and since 1975, a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of America, #317 and the Third Order of St. Dominic. Additionally, she was a loyal member of the Disabled American Veterans, Auxiliary. She served her church as a volunteer teacher of religious education over 25 years. An active learner who used the internet to communicate with her sons, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1998 and subsequently worked as a substitute teacher in the Albuquerque Public School system. Mrs. Turrietta is survived by her four sons, Jimmy Turrietta Jr., Major, USMC, Ret. and wife, Cecilia of Norfolk, VA, Orlando Turrietta and Caren of Oakland, CA, Anthony A. Turrietta of Albuquerque, and Johnathan Turrietta and Annette of Rio Rancho; five grandchildren, Theresa Ferguson, certified Gemologist and Gregory of Pleasanthill, CA, Derek Turrietta, Attorney at Law and Kirsten of Norfolk, VA, Analisa Turrietta, Audiologist Technician of Sacramento, CA, Daniel and Aaron Turrietta of Rio Rancho; two great-granddaughters, Anna and Elise Turrietta of Norfolk, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Your counsel will be greatly missed good and faithful servant. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon in the Sacred Heart Church, 412 Stover SE, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., with a Scripture Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters. Final visitation will be Monday morning in the Sacred Heart Church from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father James Moore. Zito -- Pasquale Zito, 52, a resident of Placitas for four years, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Denise Zito; sons, Scott Zito and wife, Julissa of Queens, NY and Steven Zito and Jamie of Staten Island; granddaughter, Gillian Zito; grandson, Xavier Santos; sister, Sarah Zito; father-in-law, Frank Corriero; and nephew, Frankie and Zeus, Zena, George and Gracie.
