Sammons -- Gilbert D. Sammons, 91, died peacefully in his sleep, Thursday morning, August 3, 2000. Shortly after arriving in Albuquerque in 1945 from Cimmaron, NM, he began what was to be a lifetime of horseshoeing. He started as many cowboys did, breaking horses and as a foreman on the CS and Philmont ranches in Cimmaron, NM. Gilbert was always ready to give a helping hand or hoof, in many cases, to many farriers that learned the trade from him and are working today because of his teaching. Grampo always had"horseshoeing" stories and several articles about his incredible cowboy journey were published throughout his career.
