Babb -- Velma Estella Babb, age 94, passed away in Lubbock, Texas on October 2, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Franklyn B. Babb, who died in 1994. She is survived by her three sons, Robert G. Babb and his wife, Diane of Lubbock, TX, Franklyn P. Babb and his wife, Mary of Albuquerque and David H. Babb and his wife, Rosemary of Denver, CO. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services were held on October 7, 1999 at IOOF Cemetery in St. Clair, MO. She will by missed by all who knew her.

Bailey -- Maj. Willie R."Bill" Bailey, USAF (retired)Willie R. Bailey, 82, a former longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 1999, at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez, Colorado. He was retired from the United States Air Force and also from the New Mexico Dept. of Health and Human Services. Major Bailey served his country honorably for 21 years in the Armed Services. His tours of duty included stints in the Panama Canal zone, Korea, Japan, and Andrews Air Force Base. He retired from the Air Force in 1961, settling in Albuquerque with his wife and daughters. He went to work for the Department of Human Services, where he was a caseworker and then a supervisor. He always treated his clients with compassion, coming to know them personally as people with real needs. He stood to those who knew him as an example of honor and high standards. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violet (Vi) of Cortez; two daughters, Barbara Rightley of Cortez and Brenda Clark of Heber Springs, Arkansas. He is also survived by four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice Reid of Loving, New Mexico. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6th, at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. A Committal Ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 8th, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maj. Bailey to the Hospice of Montezuma, Inc., 1345 S. Broadway, Cortez, CO. 81321.

Byrne -- John P. Byrne, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died Sunday, October 31, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Guri Byrne; daughters, Patricia Ann Leischner of Denver, CO, Guri K. Glass and husband, Wayne of Alexandria, VA, Bridget S. Turman and husband, Jerry of Chadron, NE; sons, James H. Byrne of Anchorage, AK, John W. Byrne of Albuquerque, and Timothy P. Byrne and wife, Geri of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Drew, Reeve, Barbara Jean, Matthew, Michael, Sage, Sarah, and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin; and his sister, Jean Ann. Mr. Byrne served in the US Army for 27 years and was involved in WWII, as well as the Korean Conflict. Castro -- Dorothy B. Castro, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, died Thursday, October 28, 1999. She is survived by her son, John A. Castro of Edgewood; daughter-in-law, Laura Gage of Albuquerque; two brothers, Tony Bilek and wife, Dolores and Joseph Bilek and wife, Rosemary; and two sisters, Marie Halak and Virginia Overgaard and husband, Elmer, all of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Castro in 1976. Mrs. Castro was a life member of the Catholic Church. She was a retired government employee of 40 years. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Deacon Byron Wicker reciting. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with Father Tom Zotter, Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Al McLane. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Bilek, Joseph Bilek, Elmer Overgaard, Laurence Dubuque, Ona Bellino and John Castro. Covington -- James"JD" Covington, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1979, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 1999. JD was born in Reidsville, North Carolina, the son of John and Madge Johnson Covington on May 9, 1929. JD enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and reached the level of Full Colonel. During his 27 year career in the USAF, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Oak Leaf Cluster. In addition he received numerous Meritorious Service Medals. He was a member of the River Rats Association, an associate member of the local Fleet Reserve Association, and the UNM Lobo Club. JD was self-described"golf buff" and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of his many"golf buddies." He also derived great pleasure from his stained glass hobby, and in giving his works as gifts to family, friends and his church. Besides his wife, Marjorie, of 46 years, his survivors include his daughter, Diana Covington of Albuquerque; his brother, Robert Covington of Oak Island, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and two very dear friends, Georgia McGuirt and Fola Williams of Monroe, NC. JD was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, whose members have provided such boundless love and concern for him and family throughout. A Memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 1999 with Pastor Mick Erickson officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Military Honors will be presented by the Kirtland AFB Honor Guard. Hanna -- Milton Edmond Frank"Bud" Hanna, an Albuquerque resident and native, passed away at home, October 27, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Hanna; and his sister, Vera Moor. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Parnall and husband, Bill, Patty Hanna, Weecie Hanna, Laura Allred and husband, Mike; and best-friend, Louise Stambaugh; granddaughter, Taylor Parnall; and grandsons, Brandon and Marshall Allred. Bud was born in Albuquerque, December 5, 1920. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1937. Attended the University of New Mexico and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, being honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to Albuquerque to run his parents photograph business, Hanna & Hanna, established in 1914 by his parents, Milton Edmond and Ottila Hanna. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 4, 1999, 2:00 p.m., at Faith Chapel, 1726 Girard Blvd. NE, with Reverend Tom Salmon officiating. Montoya -- Pancratia C. Montoya, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1980, died Friday, October 29, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Victoriano; daughters, Elaine McConnaughhay and husband, Doug of Boerne, TX, Marianne Dupy and husband, David of Naperville, IL and Michele Orosz of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Natasha, Tianna, and Scott; step-grandchildren, Stefanie and Robert; and three sisters, Casilda Vialpando, Concilia Lucero, both of Santa Fe, and Rebecca Sanchez of Costa Mesa, CA. Mrs. Montoya was a member of Holy Ghost Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She is remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, and sister who made her family her life and followed a truly unselfish creed. Moya -- Olivia"Lala" Saiz Moya, 93, a resident of Belen, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 1999. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Olivia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alberto Moya. She is survived by her brother, Seferino Saiz; sister-in-law, Annie Saiz; her nieces, Elsie Giron, Dorothy Johnston, Lorraine Marquez, and Bertha Padilla; her nephews, Robert, Sefe Jr., Charlie Saiz and Eloy Padilla. She is also survived by her many loving great-nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Monday, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary which will be recited by Silvia Aragon at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Sanchez -- Dr. Max A. Sanchez, fourth generation native New Mexican, passed away quietly on Friday, October 29, 1999. He was born in Albuquerque at 12th and Marquette, on June 8, 1908. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended NMMI after which he enrolled in Catholic University in Washington, DC. It was there that he met his loving wife of 62 years. After graduation from Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1946, he began practicing dentistry in Albuquerque. He practiced dentistry for over 40 years. His generosity for the common man was widely know. He kept many underprivileged families in food for the winter from his hunting trophies. He provided free dental care for many who would otherwise have been unable to have it. Max is survived by four children, Maria Sanchez and Max Sanchez Jr. of Albuquerque, Karen Sanchez-King of Pacific Palisades, CA, Kathy Peterson of Fresno, CA. He is survived by five grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Bernadettes Church on Indian School Rd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Casa Angelica. Honorary pallbearers are Max Sanchez Jr., Brandon Sanchez, Geoff Guerne, Tres Simi, Rudy Sanchez, Paul DeBlassie, Elliott Phillips, Gene Sanchez, Alfred Lopez, Joe R. Martinez. Snyder -- John A. Snyder, 74, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 1999. John was a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Navy for three years. John came to New Mexico in 1956 to work for Sandia National Laboratories. He retired from there as a Nuclear Reactor Supervisor after 33 years of outstanding service. John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Emma Lou of the family home in Los Lunas; three children, John Michael of South Bend, IN, William Frank and his wife, LaVonda of Aztec, NM, and Dr. Marianne Sue Snyder of Montgomery, AL; four grandchildren, Dalton Tyler Robertson, Lindsay, Wm. Chase, and Lashae Snyder; his mother, Lilah Snyder of Carlsbad, NM; and one brother, F. Dean Snyder of Albuquerque. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 1999, 1:00 p.m., at Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen. Velasquez -- Florence Velasquez, 60, a resident of Albuquerque for eight years, died Saturday, October 30, 1999. She is survived by her children, John P. Velasquez of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph Velasquez and wife, Rebecca of Santa Fe, Valerie DeAguero and husband, Joseph of Espanola, Annette Aguayo and husband, Robert of Albuquerque and Robert O. Velasquez Jr. and wife, Trinnie of Espanola; ten grandchildren, Joseph Velasquez, Paul Velasquez, Timothy Velasquez, Joshua Velasquez, Robert Velasquez, Christopher Velasquez, Joseph DeAguero Jr., Nicolette DeAguero, Naomi Velasquez, and Kayla Velasquez; and ten brothers and sisters. Mrs. Velasquez was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she was active in the choir. She enjoyed participating with the"Mall-Walkers" group at Winrock Mall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert"Bobby" Velasquez Sr. in June, 1991. Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, at French Mortuary - Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
