Adams Smith -- Adams- Louise Adams Smith, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, died Friday, September 17, 1999. She is survived by sister, Ruth E. Hebson of Sylacauga, AL; seven nieces, Frances Black, Teresa Black, Betty Jo Robertson, Susie Brooker, Linda Robinson, Judy Holley, and Ann Baker; five nephews, James W. Matthews, John Brooker, Thomas Brooker, Mac Hebson, and Harold Hebson; and brother-in-law, Robert Adams and wife, Ruth of Albuquerque. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, William Adams; and her second husband, Wesley Smith. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and earned her masters degree from Syracuse University. She was a teacher for 35 years and taught at Jefferson Middle School in Albuquerque. Mrs. Smith also previously taught in New York and Alabama. She was an active member of the Uptown Garden Club. Services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE, Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Norman Scrimschire officiating. Blea -- Mrs. Ramona Gabaldon-Blea, 75, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away September 16, 1999. Mrs. Blea is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Juan Antonio Blea; seven daughters, Carmen Soto, Josie Miranda, Theresa Molina and husband, Paul, Ruth Vasquez, Patsy Garcia and husband, Joe, Antonia Blea-Duran and Jeanette Blea-Marrufo; four sons, Victor Blea, Joe Duran, Ricky Blea and Matthew Blea; her mother, Maria Garcia; her brothers and sisters, Raymundo, Ralph, Lupe Gabaldon, Rosa Nieto, Teresa Rodriguez, Kiko, and many other brothers and sisters; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Blea was a member of the Catholic Church. Helman -- May Laura Helman, 94, died Friday, September 17, 1999. May was born on May 15, 1905 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Truman Martin and Mary Freeman Martin. May Helman is survived by her sons, Terry L. Moran and wife, Donetta of Minden, NV, Ray M. Helman and wife, Lonny James of Placitas; grandson, Michael R. Helman of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Lorraine Bright and husband, Harry of Delaware City, DE; granddaughters, Gwen Daily and husband, Pete of Clayton, CA, Colette Seieroe and husband, Louis of San Jose, CA; seven great-grandchildren; and beloved family friend, Lisa L. Helman of Albuquerque. May was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Tom) E. Helman in 1984. May arrived in Albuquerque during WWII to be with her husband who was stationed at Kirkland Field. She worked as an aircraft instrument technician until the end of WWII and then returned with her husband to West Virginia. May and her husband, Tom, made Albuquerque their permanent home in 1951. May became a medical records librarian at Bataan Memorial Hospital until she retired in the mid 1960s. May loved flying and became a licensed pilot in 1971. She was also a member of the New Mexico Chapter of the 99's during her flying days. In 1973, May became President of the Auxiliary of Nazareth Psychiatric Hospital and was active as a volunteer at the hospital for several years. May enjoyed working in several artistic fields ranging from wood and clay sculptures to oil and watercolor paintings. Some of her works have been displayed at galleries in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. May was loved very much by her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Memorial celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 1999, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano NW, with The Reverend Sandra S. Layburn -- Elizabeth K. Layburn, 99, a former resident of Albuquerque and Clovis, NM, died September 15, 1999, in Lakeland, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband; and sons, Robert E. and Robert L. Layburn. She is survived by two sons, William of Atlanta, GA and Donald of Hendersonville, NC; and one daughter, Elizabeth Hansen of Albuquerque. Northam -- Christine Northam, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999. She is survived by her sisters, Faye King of Edgewood and Blanche Hart of Hydro, OK; nephews, Bill Adkins of Los Lunas, Tom Adkins of Albuquerque, Joe King and Herman Brannon, both of Edgewood, Dale Hart of Oklahoma, David Northam of Las Vegas, NV and Bill Northam of Massachusetts; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a secretary at Sandia National Labs until her retirement in 1989. While her health was good, she loved to travel in the United States and abroad, and she loved to socialize. She was loved very much by her sisters and nephews, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Tinker -- Georgia H. Smith Tinker, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away September 13, 1999. Georgia was born in Corsicana, Texas on April 23, 1913. She was raised in Kemp, Texas and graduated from Kemp High School. She then attended the Parkland School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. In 1935, she moved back to New Mexico shortly after her marriage to Travis Smith. After living in Idaho and Texas, she moved to New Mexico in 1951. She became very involved in the League of Women Voters and served as the Albuquerque president from 1958-1960. In 1966, Georgia and Travis moved to Pecos, New Mexico and began the campground and development called Hidden Valley. They were later divorced, but Georgia continued with the campground and a subdivision development with great dedication and sacrifice. She later became a member of the Republican Inner Circle and spent many hours in our Nation's Capitol, helping format policy. She has also served on the Presidential Roundtable. Besides her family and friends, her greatest loves were fishing and painting. She studied under the renowned artist, Carl Von Hassler. Her oil paintings of Aspens and Adobes were exceptional. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and George W. Howell; first husband, Travis Smith; second husband, Nick Tinker; and sister, Vera Ingram. Georgia is survived by her son, George H. Smith of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandra Elkins and husband, Dugan of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Ann Barr of Dallas, TX; grandson, Randy Elkins and wife, Sandi of McKinney, TX; granddaughter, Celeste Ehlers and husband, Patrick of Albuquerque; grandson, Rick Elkins and wife, Dena of Colorado Springs, CO; great-granddaughter, Kalyn Elkins of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandsons, Jonathan Smith and Zackery Ehlers of Albuquerque, Ryan Altman, Justin Altman, and Christopher Altman of McKinney, TX; nephews, Orville Jobe and Bill Barr of Texas; nieces, Noel Williams and Avis Jobe of Texas; her extended families and many, many special friends. A very special thank you to the family of Maya Najar for her love and care of Georgia during her last years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life. Turnbull -- Jim M. Turnbull, 80 years old, born in Monte Vista, Colorado, November 14, 1918, passed away Saturday, September 11, 1999. Jim and Tommie moved to Albuquerque in 1943. Mr. Turnbull is survived by his wife of 56 years, Tommie Lorene Turnbull; a son, George Turnbull and his wife, Janice of Albuquerque and their two children, Kamie and Brent, and grandson, Tyler; a daughter, Beverly Turnbull Giard and husband, Victor and their two daughters, Heather and Wendy in Brattleboro, VT. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Smith of Albuquerque, Eva Whittington of Elgin, IL and Jenny Lee Whittman of Covales, OR; and 25 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Dan, Don, Shorty, Wilbur and Fidel. He worked at ACF for ten years, overseas for ten years, and Cillessen Brothers after his return from Overseas. Cremation has taken place. Tommie will be having an open house for friends and family on Saturday, September 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at her home.

Van Tubergen -- Van Inez S. Van Tubergen, age 71, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 15, 1999. Many people knew her as Van. Born Inez Stricklin on March 28, 1928 in Hardin County, Tennessee. She moved to Albuquerque in May, 1958 for health reasons. At that time she was married to John Benny, a teacher and coach of the swimming team at Sandia High School. During this time she became interested in politics which led her to run for Bernalillo County Treasurer in 1968 on the Democratic ticket. The nationwide Republican landslide led to her defeat. Shortly afterward she returned to her career as a real estate agent. In 1971, she married Richard F. Van Tubergen, who died in 1997. Together they operated Van Royal Realty until the late 1980s. Mrs. Van Tubergen had two children, Katherine Yvonne Benny Dell of Baltimore, MD and John E. Benny III, who predeceased her. Her activities included owning and showing championship Welsh Corgis, jewelry design, cooking, candy making, and cultivating a large group of friends with her open and friendly nature. Memorial services will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Monday, September 20, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital Transportation Fund of Ballut Abyad Temple, 6600 Zuni SE 87108 or to the Humane Animal Association of New Mexico, 675 Virginia SE 87108. Vigil -- Orlando T. Vigil, age 80, of Santa Fe, died on Wednesday, September 15, 1999. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Vigil; and son, Lonnie (Garza) Vigil. Mr. Vigil was born April 20, 1919 in Clayton, NM. A Veteran of World War II, he was an Army Air Force Lieutenant and was proud of being a bombardier. He worked for PNM for 31 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking which he also taught, and made many pieces of furniture that are on display at Clayton High School. He loved to golf. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish and FOE #2811. Mr. Vigil is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Vigil of Santa Fe; daughters, Clarel Marchi, Anna Catanach and husband, David, all of Albuquerque and Louise Vigil of Rio Rancho. He is also survived by his sister, Beatrice Lopez of Rio Rancho; step-children, Richard J. Rivera of Arroyo Seco, Marcella Ann Herrera of Santa Fe, Deborah Romero of Espanola, Matthew M. Zeedyk -- Winifred"Gene" Zeedyk, a 20 year resident of Sandia Park, died peacefully at her home Thursday, September 16, she was 65 years old. Her husband of 20 years, Bill Zeedyk, was holding her at the time of her death. The cause of death was lung cancer. Along with her husband, she is survived by her brother, Albert Rodes of Everett, WA, brother, Carney Rodes; and sister, Estelle Isakson of Boethel, WA, sister, Dorothy Rodes of Seattle; three children, Vickie and Chris Vaughan of Washington, DC, David Vaughan of Charlotte Hall, MD; four step-children, Suzanne Zeedyk of Dundee, Scotland, Cindy Zeedyk of Highland, OH, Carlene Angowski of Moriarty, Bill Zeedyk of Winter Park, CO; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; many nieces, nephews; and numerous loving friends. She was born on November 24, 1933 in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle, WA in 1951. Her first marriage to an Air Force pilot allowed her to travel to every state in the United States. Mrs. Zeedyk volunteered extensively throughout her life, most notably with the American Red Cross. In 1967, she began a program to bring the wives of POW's and MIA's to Saigon to seek information and advocate for their husband's welfare. She was honored numerous times for this program by many organizations including the United States Air Force. As an adult, she returned to school, earning a degree in Human Growth and Development from Antioch University. She worked as an Art Therapist at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. Upon her move to New Mexico, she worked for the American Heart Association and as the Staff Director for the Cancer Society. She earned a Masters of Education at the University of New Mexico and served as Director of Clinical Services, Executive Director, and as a psychotherapist for New Mexico AIDS Services. She retired in 1991 and fulfilled a lifelong dream to travel around the world for a year with her beloved husband. Most recently, she was involved in trainings for the Animas program for New Mexico AIDS Services and served on their Board of Directors. She traveled and enjoyed her many and varied friends and working on her many art projects. She was an avid painter and reader, belonging to several book clubs, including"Possibilities", a group for women over 60. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 18, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul St. NE. Donations in Gene Zeedyk's name may be made to any local chapter of the Cancer Society. .DMP
