Abrums -- Dr. John Denise Abrums, 75, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 1999. Dr. Abrums was born in Trinidad, Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado, Medical School. He had lived and practiced medicine in Albuquerque since 1949. Dr. Abrums retired from private practice specializing in Internal Medicine in 1995; he was affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital Center, and the University of New Mexico Hospital. He had currently been the Medical Director for Turquoise Lodge. He was past President of Bernalillo County Medical Society, New Mexico Medical Society, New Mexico Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Society of Internal Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Abrums earned the Laureate Award of the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Physicians, presented annually to a physician who has contributed significantly to the medical community and to the field of Internal Medicine over the years. He was on the faculty of the UNM School of Medicine, and a member of the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners. He also held membership in and was often a key leader in the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Federated Council of Internal Medicine, The Ancient Elliptical Order of the Alligator, and the National Academies of Practice (Medicine). Dr. Abrums also served as a medical officer in the US Army. He later remained active in the US Army Reserves until he retired with the rank of Brigadier General. John and his wife, Louise have traveled the world extensively and are longtime collectors of antique cars. Dr. Abrums is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise M. Abrums, retired owner of Brandywine Galleries; children, John E. Abrums and his wife, Laura of Chimayo, NM and Louanne and her husband, Wally Sargent of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Dana, Ely and Rachel Abrums of Chimayo, NM and Gabriel Abrums of Taos, NM, Kristin Sargent of Vista, CA and Adam Sargent of Santa Fe; as well as sister-in-law, Faye Underwood of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends throughout the United States. A Memorial celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 22, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM. Baca -- Jerry Anthony Baca, 42, a resident of Albuquerque, was called home to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 15, 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Fermin Baca. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Sedillo Baca of Albuquerque; his loving mother, Carmen Baca; one son, Gino Baca; one daughter, Monica Brazfield and husband, Leroy. Also surviving are his step-children, Dolores, Monique, David and Sherrie; two sisters, Carmen Maestas, Diana Chavez; five brothers, Ralph Baca and Sandra Montel, Larry Baca and wife, Jeannie, Danny Baca and wife, Renye, Ronnie Baca, and Johnny Baca; Wilfred Maestas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bedell -- Betty Bedell, 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 1999. She was the beloved wife of Al Hluzek for 16 years; loving mother of Ann Bedell Hunt of Ft. Worth, TX, Van Bedell and wife, Kathy of Kansas City, KS and Randy Bedell of Minneapolis, MN; and cherished grandmother of Ryan, Rachel, and Christina Bedell, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Jennifer and Rebecca Bedell, both of Kansas City, KS. Betty was also the wonderful step-mother of Linda Wiseman of Tampa, FL and Al Hluzek Jr. and wife, Betty of Sarasota, FL; and enduring friend to many at the Grande Court Retirement Center. She was an adventurous dreamer that held several careers from dietician for the Veterans Administration Hospital, Prescott, AZ, to credit manager for Grimshaw Mortuary in Phoenix. Betty was a very special and kind soul who will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Meine and Renske E. Ruben Vandergraph. Duran -- Lonnie Duran, 51, passed away July 18, 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Tranquelino Duran; sister, Bernice Avila; and brother, Bobbie Duran. He is survived by his wife, Denise; daughters, Sylvia Duran and Rhonda Jaramillo; step-sons, Esteban Baca, Joaquin Baca and Paul Lopez; one grandson, Freddie Keith; mother, Mary Duran; brothers, Arthur Duran, Tommy Duran, and Albert Duran; twin-sister, Lorraine Jimenez; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at San Felipe Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 1999. Gideon -- Claud L. Gideon left this world to be with his Lord on July 17, 1999. He was born on March 25, 1923 to Claud Lee and Della Burns Gideon on the family farm, six miles south of Hollis, OK. He attended the local country school where he had a perfect attendance record in both grade school and high school. In August of 1942, Claud Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 3 1/2 years in the Pacific. After his discharge in December of 1945, he enrolled at Oklahoma A&M College where he earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture. While at college, he participated in the R.O.T.C. program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Reserve resulting in his being called up to serve in the Korean Conflict. After returning to New Mexico from Korea, Claud Jr. went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration. During the 1950's he worked for the International Development Services in Guatemala. After Guatemala, he worked for the F.H.A. until he retired. Mr. Gideon is survived by his former wife, Frances; daughters, Marjorie Olson of Oklahoma City, OK and Beverly Cormier of Grand Junction, CO; son, Robert; brother, Joe, both of Albuquerque; sister, Joy West of Pawtucket, RI; brothers, Jim and Jerry of Springdale and Prairie Grove, AK; and granddaughters, Allison and Julie Cormier and Samantha and Melonie Olson. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Mario Parga officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. Hansen -- Eugene Laurence Hansen of Corrales, was born May 14, 1920 in Lake City, MN. He was the son of Emmanuel Schuneaman Hansen and Mary Adeline Isabel Crusoe. Keller -- Louise Mason"Dusty" Keller, 89, died July 20, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Keller. A resident of Belen and Albuquerque for 25 years. She was born in Meyersdale, PA on July 21, 1909, and attended the University of West Virginia and Ohio State University. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Barfield, and Zoa Mattox and son-in-law, Harry Mattox; six grandchildren, Michael Barfield, Janet Collins, Lori Michnovicz, David Barfield, Mason Mattox and Robert Mattox. Kreider -- John A. Kreider, 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Sunday, July 18, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Antonia Torres-Kreider of Albuquerque; son, Mark J. Litwin -- Neal E. Litwin, 75, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, died on Tuesday, June 29, 1999. Mr. Litwin was born on May 8, 1924, in Connecticut. He was a pilot during World War II, and the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Aviation Cadet School at a young age, he earned the respect of his peers for his dedication to his country, and to his learning of the art of flying. During the Korean Conflict, he continued his aviation career qualifying to fly the latest jet aircraft. After his active flying career ended, he established a distinguished career in the furniture industry as a buyer and merchandiser for several of the leading furniture retailers in the country. He retired from American Furniture Company, Inc. in Albuquerque in 1992. Neal touched many lives during his life. He told wonderful and entertaining recaps of his life and the people in it. His sense of humor was unique as was his life. A true friend and businessman, he is and will be missed. Murray -- Margery C. Murray, 82, a resident of Albuqurque since 1946, passed away at her home on July 19, 1999, following an illness. She was born on October 7, 1916 in Washington, DC. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cecelia Crumbaugh; one sister, Vivian M. Crumbaugh; one daughter, Marilyn V. Murray; her husband, James J. Murray in 1969; and her second husband, Stanley F. Dorand in 1994. She is survived by four daughters, Ann Rajala and her husband, Robert, Barbara Irving and her husband, Dale, Midge McCarragher and her husband, Patrick and Marian O'Brien and her husband, Michael. She is also survived by one aunt, Mrs. Adrienne Rushin; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Narvaiz -- Dan Narvaiz, age 90, a five time national Senior Olympics Champion, passed away at his home in Santa Fe on Monday, July 19, 1999, surrounded by his family. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Narvaiz, three months ago; his daughter, Teresita Romero; and his son, David Narvaiz. He was born in Trinidad, CO in 1908. He later moved to Santa Fe where he met and married Lucy Lopez. He was an accomplished swimmer and diver who participated in numerous Senior Citizen Olympics throughout New Mexico and the nation. He represented the State of New Mexico at national events where he won numerous gold medals and blue ribbons for swimming and running. Other hobbies Dan enjoyed were tap dancing and archery. He took every opportunity to tap dance at weddings, dances, or fiestas. He participated in numerous archery events throughout the Southwest. Most important to Dan was his family. He took pride in every family member and shared his family's accomplishments with anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his kindness, his generosity, and all the love he bestowed upon his family and friends. Dan is survived by his daughter, Gloria Narvaiz; his son, Danny Narvaiz; sisters, Rose Martinez and Clara Fernandez; brother, Fred Narvaiz; grandchildren, Ronnie Romero, Cindy Carrillo, Rosalie Doyle, Sandra Pacheco, Dorie Lopez, Eric Romero, Carol Trimborn, Elaine Romero, and Jennifer Narvaiz, and their spouses; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Oldfield -- Dura May Oldfield, a resident of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 18, 1999. She was 80 years old. Ms. Oldfield was born September 4, 1918 in Pecos, Texas, to Joseph Emmett Brem and Lillie May Yaws Brem. She was a member of the Rio Grande Baptist church. She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother, a gentle soul, who will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene"Barney" Oldfield; a son, Buddy Oldfield; four brothers, W.C. Brem, Burl James Brem, Earl Don Brem and Billy Don Brem; a sister, Fern Brem. She is survived by eight sons, Emmett G. Oldfield of Albuquerque, Herbert H. Oldfield of Los Lunas, Tommy L. Oldfield of Truth of Consequences, NM, David R. Oldfield of Truth or Consequences, Noah P. Oldfield of Albuquerque, Billie J. Oldfield of Albuquerque, and Boyd E. Padilla -- Carlos (Charlie Rey) Padilla, 36, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly. Carlos and his wife, Arlene have three children, Kristie Rae, Nichole and Carlos Rey. He was a true family man who loved his family and loved being surrounded by them. He was an electrician, builder, a coach for his childrens' sports, and a kid at heart. He will be greatly missed by all his playmates. He has six sisters, Debbie Chavez and husband, Larry, Dinah Harvey and husband, Jerrell, Donna Gutierrez and husband, Rodney, Darlene (Nena) Ortega and husband, Jorge, Ramona Moseley and husband, Danny, and Georgia Frankel and husband, Franko; one brother, Ezzard Morales and Daphne; and several nieces and nephews who will miss being chased and tormented by their Uncle Charlie Rey. His Nana Tive Padilla will miss her hito. His loving in-laws, Jose and Lori Madrid, Theresa Madrid, Kathy and Orlando Montoya, Joey and Gina Madrid will miss him at their Sunday Masses together at St. Charles Church. Sanchez -- Savina (Sally) Sanchez went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 18, 1999. Sally was born July 5, 1911, the daughter of Sinforoza and Federico Lovato Padilla in Raton, New Mexico. She had worked hard all her life in places such as the Bruns Military Hospital during WWII and St. Vincents Hospital, and several nursing homes. In her later years, she was a proud Foster Grandparent in the Albuquerque Public Schools and at UNMH. She was a devoted mother and Christian who loved the Lord dearly. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lazaro Martinez and her second husband, Jose Sanchez; her beloved son, Thomas Robert Martinez; brothers, Elmo J. Lovato and Tony Lovato and his wife, Lonicia; sisters, Rebecca (Dide) Martinez and Mary Lucrecia Brazelli; also two sons-in-law, Juan Dominguez and Rev. Frank Archuleta Sr. She is survived by her daughters, Beatrice Dominguez, Rev. Connie Archuleta, Rebecca Lippke and husband, Mike; son, Lazaro (Pispo) Martinez and wife, Grace; and daughter-in-law, Maria Leoneda Martinez; 16 grandchildren, Robert John Montoya and wife, Michelle, Angie Martinez and husband, Rick, Sam Montoya and wife, Theresa, Rose and Johanna Dominguez, Maria Elena Martinez Grisham and husband, Brian, Debra Janet (DJ) Martinez, Annette Martinez, Michael Allen and David Lippke, Christina Hansen and husband, Jeff, Vivian Archuleta Rodriguez, Rev. Frank Archuleta Jr. and wife, Esther, Tomas Archuleta and wife, Lea, Johnny Martinez and wife, Amy, Ronnie Martinez and wife, Sandra. She is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren, Roberta Montoya Shaw and husband, Bobby, Jasmine and Jessica Montoya, Cindy Gallegos and husband, Dean, Denise Corriz, Monica, Samantha, Samone and Juanito Montoya, Daniel Salas and Sally Dominguez, (her name sake), Aaron, Shane, and Brandon Grisham, Elizabeth and Emiliana Krista, Elycia Martinez-Davis, Maghan, Heather, Jeffery and Ema Hanson, Connie and husband, Jonathan Jimenez, Stefanie, Frankie the third, Emily, Brandon, Tomas Jr., and Jonathan Archuleta, Dominic and Matthew Martinez; three great-great-grandchildren, Bobbi Meriah Shaw, Victoria Montoya, and Jonathan Jimenez Jr.; and two sisters, Odella Lovato and Rosie Sullivan; and her beloved sister-in-law, Maclovia Lovato. Further survivors include many special friends and relatives. A special nephew, Tony (Pancho) Lovato and wife, Alice, who helped her with many of her needs in later years. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 21, 1999, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln, Rio Rancho. The service will be on Thursday, July 22, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at the Aposento Alto Praise Chapel, 2501 Alamogordo NW, Albuquerque, with Rev. Ruben Guajardo, Rev. Ruben Guajardo Jr., and Rev. Frank Archuleta Jr. officiating. Eulogist will be Vivian Archuleta Rodriguez. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Daniel Salas, David Lippke, Johnny Martinez, Michael Lippke, Sammy Montoya, Tomas Archuleta, Robert Montoya, and Dean Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Martinez, Rev. Sanchez -- Steven Sanchez passed away on July 1, 1999. His pallbearers were his brothers, Andrew and Joey Sanchez; his brothers-in-law, Ray and Mike Sanchez; Steven's dear friend, Wanda Griego; and Steven's son-in-law, Ryan Sotelo. Trujillo -- Donicio (Don) Trujillo was called home by the Lord on July 18, 1999. Mr. Trujillo was born in Cabezon, NM on February 16, 1936 to Leonard Trujillo and Isidora Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ignacio Trujillo and Fermine Trujillo. He is survived by one son, Don Trujillo Jr. and family of Farmington, NM; one daughter, Abbey Pate and family of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; step-mother, Simona Trujillo; three brothers, Lee Trujillo, Gilbert Trujillo, Joe Trujillo; 12 sisters, Irene Santestevan, Virginia Macias, Josie Almanza, Sophie Martinez, Ignacia Saiz, Mary Ross, Priscilla Sena, Isabel Romero, Gloria Rubalcaba, Betty Molina, Emily Zapata, Alfie Montoya; and many nephews and nieces whom were very close and loved him alot. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 1:00 p.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
