Apprill -- Catherine Morgan Apprill, 77, died peacefully in her home on February 28th. She is survived by her daughters, Ann L. Payne and husband, Don of Broken Arrow, OK, Mary Apprill-Gates and husband, Terry Gates of Rio Rancho, NM, and Jeanette Apprill of Albuquerque; son, Phil. M. Apprill and wife, Diane of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Christina Jardee and husband, Steven, Don P. Payne, Evelyn Payne, Aaron Payne, Bryn Catherine Apprill, Chris Gates and Brian Gates; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, and Micah Jardee and other loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Apprill; and her brother, Art Morgan Jr. Catherine was born in Santa Fe and was the daughter of Art Morgan, a well known journalist and editor for the New Mexican. She attended the University of New Mexico and was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. Upon a graduation in 1943, she moved to Washington, DC and took a position at the Pentagon, where she worked in the clerical pool. During a visit to Santa Fe in 1946. Catherine met Gil Apprill and her life took an unexpected turn. On September 19, 1947 they were wed at St. Frances Cathedral, after which they took up residence in Los Alamos, where they lived for the next 30 years. Catherine was a devoted homemaker and mother, constantly involved in the lives of her four children. She was active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, participated in many social groups and was well known for her award winning knitting. She taught knitting in nigh school classes and was a teacher's aide at Los Alamos High for many years. Catherine and Gil moved to Albuquerque in 1977, which led to 20 years of traveling, enjoying her grandchildren and socializing with her many dear friends. Though diagnosed with cancer in 1993, she managed to sustain a vibrant lifestyle and a positive outlook through some difficult times. Catherine was a loving and supportive mother and wife. She was a loyal and caring friend. Catherine's legacy to her family and friends is an enduring gift of love, faith and kindness that will forever brighten our lives and lift our spirits. Rosary will be recited Friday, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Deacon Lloyd Martinez reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria NE, with Fr. Albert Podvin, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Canham -- Rita Canham, 49, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1984, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 1998, peacefully at the family home in the presence of her loving family after a courageous 18 month battle with multiple myeloma. Rita was born May 22, 1948, the daughter of Oracio and Corine Santillanes Mora in Albuquerque. She graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic High School in Bernalillo in 1965, a member of the last class to graduate from that school. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic parish in Rio Rancho, where some years ago she had been a CCD instructor and was, until her passing, a member of the Spanish choir. Rita had been employed at Honeywell Corporation for 16 years, where she served as an auditor. Rita was longtime supporter of the activities of the Knights of Columbus throughout the State of New Mexico. Her battle with cancer took her to Tucson, Arizona for two months from February through April, 1997, during which time she underwent a bone marrow transplant at the University Medical Center. She is survived by Charles, her loving husband of 25 years; her daughters, Lori and Kristi, all of the family home. She is also survvied by her parents, Oracio and Corine Mora of Bernalillo; brother, Martin Acosta and his wife, Lucille of Bernalillo. She is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Rita was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Marquez. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, March 9, 1998, 7:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with the Mass of resurrection to be celebrated on Tuesday, March 10, 1998, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Fr. Tien-Tri Nguyen as the Celebrant. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rita's name to the International Myeloma Foundation, 2120 Stanley Hills Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90046. Castillo -- Verna J. Castillo, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Sunday, March 1, 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Loyola Aragon and husband, Claudio of Los Lunas, Emelina Baca of Tijeras, Priscilla Makin and husband, Darrel of Phoenix, AZ, Cecilia Mondragon and Corina Garcia, both of Albuquerque, and Connie Lucero and husband, Joe of Santa Fe; sons, Sef Castillo and wife, Joann of Colorado Springs, CO and Emiliano Castillo and wife, Sherri Finch-Castillo of Albuquerque; brother, Margarito"Lucky" Rodriguez and wife, Gladys of Liberal, KS; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emiliano; grandson, Harold Romero; and great-grandson, Johnnie Mondragon. Johnson -- Graveside services for Vesta G. Johnson, 87, of Atlanta, TX, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 1998, in the Pine Crest Cemetery in Atlanta, TX, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, TX. Mrs. Johnson was born in Arkansas on November 8, 1910. She was a retired beautician, having worked in the Atlanta area for 52 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, TX. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Dr. Wayne Johnson and wife, Gail of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Galt Johnson of San Francisco, CA, Joy Barbknecht of Chicago, IL, and Jan Johnson of Chicago, IL; one great-grandchild, Casey Barbknecht of Chicago, IL; and a very special friend, Sarah Edwards of Hughes Springs, TX.

Manka -- Clara F. Manka, 99, known to many as Aunt Clara, storyteller and author, died in Albuquerque, Saturday, February 28, 1998, within 20 days of her 100th birthday. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Yeager Murray and her husband, Al of Albuquerque; step-son, Dr. Robert Hall Manka of Washington, DC; granddaughters, Joyce Hooper and husband, Larry of Albuquerque, Patricia Baird LeBeck and husband, David of Santa Rosa, CA; great-granddaughter, Holly Kay Compton; great-grandsons, Michael LeBeck and wife, Jennifer and Jason LeBeck and wife, Brenda; great-great-grandson, Anthony Christian Zenti; and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Manka; and her son, Lt. Col. John C. Baird. She was an active member of Albuquerque Storytellers International. Through the years, countless school children heard her stories and lovingly called her,"Auntie Clara". She continued to tell stories to the children attending Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She touched many lives through her work as a teacher and counselor and she will be dearly missed. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE, with Rev. James Large officiating. Interment will take place at Sandia Memory Gardens. Pittman -- Arnold Charles Pittman, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Friday, February 27, 1998. He was a twin and was born April 18, 1917 to Frances Hill and Verne Elman Pittman in Liberal, KS. Mr. Pittman lived near Hooker, OK and in Leola, SD before moving to Lincoln, NE during the summer of 1934. After high school, Mr. Pittman attended the University of Nebraska for four years until his entrance into the U.S. Army. He married Bee Brigham on May 2, 1942. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Pittman is survived by his sons, John D. Pittman and wife, Diane, and Greg Pittman and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Danny, Michael, Jerry, Adam, and Arielle; sisters, Trudy Buck and Mary Walker and husband, Don; sisters-in-law, Patricia Brigham and Dee Keiss and husband, Harold; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, James Arnold in 1946; twin brother, Raymond; brother, Robert; and sister, Patricia. Cremation has taken place and private ennichement will follow. A memorial service will be held at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper NE, on Tuesday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. A reception in the church parlor will immediately follow. Rainhart -- LeRoy G. (better known as Roy) Rainhart, 79, passed away Friday, February 27, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Roberta of 54 years; son, George Robert Rainhart and wife, Dolly of Albuquerque; daughter, Jean Rainhart Prokopiak of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Lara Ann Rainhart and husband, Jason Digman of Evanston, IL; grandson, Robert Latta Rainhart and wife, Elizabeth of Kissimmee, FL; three cousins, Benjamin Foot and wife, Lois, and George Foot and wife, Nancy, and Charles Foot and wife, Jean, all of California. Roy joined the Presbyterian Church at age 12; he later taught Sunday School and sponsored a Junior High Fellowship Group with his wife, Roberta. He was an ordained Elder and Deacon. Following graduation from NYU, with a BME, he was hired by Bell Telephone Laboratories. During World War II, he was CO of the 981st Corps of Engineers, which was part of General Patton's"spearhead across Europe." He retired from ATT Bell Laboratories in 1981 with 40 years, which included the four years in the Army and 28 years on a leave of absence to Sandia Labs to work on plastics and special materials. Cremation has taken place with private interment in Santa Fe National Cemetery, and memorial services will be held Friday, 7:00 p.m., at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE, with The Rev. Carl Soderburg and The Rev. Kay Huggins officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Randle -- Beverly Sue Randle, age 52, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, went on to be with her Father on March 3, 1998. Ms. Randle was born on September 9, 1945, to Limmuel Burks and Barbara Armstead. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 1998, 12:00 noon, at New Hope Baptist Church located at 1901 Pennsylvania NE. Reverend David Cooper will be officiating. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Albuquerque. Ms. Randle was a former resident in Amarillo, TX. She attended the University of New Mexico and received her bachelor's degree in Teaching in 1972. She worked as a Legal Aide Advisor for Legal Aide Services of New Mexico for ten years. Reck -- Frank A. Reck, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Monday, March 2, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Pat Reck of Albuquerque; daughters, Linda Nollen and husband, Rick of Rio Rancho and Sharman Kovach and husband, George of Littleton, CO; son, James F. Reck of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Cristy Nollen of Rio Rancho; brothers, James J. Stoneman -- Mildred N. Stoneman, 86, passed away March 4, 1998 at her home. A resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years. She was born October 29, 1911 in Goldwaite, Texas and moved to Albuquerque in 1936 after graduating from the University of Texas and married Otis James Stoneman after his service in WWII. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas A. and Effie E. Nichols; her brother, Jack C. Nichols; and her husband, Otis. She is survived by her nieces, Lisa A. Robert and Donnie N. Eichhorst; her nephew, Jack R. Nichols; and her dedicated caregiver, Ed Huntzicker. Burial of cremains to take place at Fairview Memorial Park at a later date. Private family services will be held. Valtierra -- Mr. Edward (Eddie) Valtierra died in Albuquerque at the age of 40. Eddie was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He was a member of the Calvary Chapel. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank J. Valtierra; brother, David Valtierra; and step-father, Bill Potts. He worked for the Albuquerque Boys and Girls Club, and at Salazar and Sons Mortuary. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, and he will be greatly missed. Eddie is survived by his mother, Aurora Potts; brothers, Frank Valtierra and wife, Ilene, George Valtierra, Tony Potts and wife, Leticia, and Charles Potts; sisters, Dolores Valtierra, Theresa Lopez and husband, Charles, and Diane Potts; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Eddie will be held on Saturday at Calvary of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna NE, where the service will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
