Edward Ross Elder, age 60, passed away Friday, November 16, 2001 due to heart failure. He was born April 2, 1941, to the late Edward K. (Ned) and Evelyn Ross Elder. He is survived by his wife, Susan of the family home; three children, Megan Gutierrez and husband, Steve of Albuquerque, Ted Elder of Seattle and Heather Elder of Seattle; four grandchildren, Amanda, Steven, Joshua and Lauren Gutierrez; one sister, Elizabeth Elder; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Merritt; sister-in-law, Nancy Merritt; and many members of the Ross and Elder families who loved him. Ross was a fourth-generation surveyor in the Albuquerque where he owned Elder Company and was a descendant of territorial governor Edmund G. Ross. Ross was a graduate of Highland High School and the University of New Mexico where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was a talented actor, served as president of the local chapter of the New Mexico Professional Surveyors, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the Session. Ross served in the Army Airborne forces in Panama. Services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. Dr. Paul Debenport and Rev. Myron White will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Department of First Presbyterian Church. The arrangements for Edward Ross Elder are under the direction of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
