Dismuke -- Joan Harms Dismuke, 65, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, February 5, 2001, surrounded by her children. She was born to Leon and Pauline Harms on June 4, 1935, in Hillsboro, KS. In 1936, her family moved to New Mexico where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Highland High School in 1953 and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM where she majored in music. On August 25, 1956, she married William"Bill" Dismuke, who in 1989 preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children, daughter, Ruth Dismuke-Blakely and husband, Stuart; sons, Mark Dewey Dismuke and Cathy Shemek, Daniel Paul Dismuke and Stephen William Dismuke and wife, Danielle; brothers, Leon Gene Harms and Paul Harms; seven grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as a host of friends. Joan was a lifelong horsewoman, raising and showing Quarter Horses and was active in the NM Quarter Horse Assoc., the NM Palomino Horse Breeders Assoc. and gave many hours to the 4-H Club. In 1987, she became involved in raising and showing Corriente Cattle through the North American Corriente Assoc. and operated the Diamond Tail Ranch until her death. She is a charter member of the Immanual Presbyterian Church. Joan had many honors throughout her life, most recently the recipient of the SW Corriente Assoc. Heritage Award. In the past few years, her Corriente Cattle were her passion and gave her great joy and satisfaction. She was a devoted mother and grandmother giving countless hours to her children and grandchildren throughout her entire life. She had a powerful love of life, enduring strength and a sense of humor that sustained her. Cremation has taken place and a private interment is planned. Memorial Services will be held at Immanual Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been set up in her honor. Memorial donations may be made to the First State Bank, 2421 Main St. SE, Los Lunas, NM 87031. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.
