Pugh -- Paul Wicks Pugh, 91, a resident of GreenTree at Post, died on January 25th. Mr. Pugh was a well-known poet among the residents of GreenTree , where he had resided for almost three years. Mr. Pugh was born in Bowling Green, Missouri, and moved with his family to Tacoma, Washington, when he was a young boy. Mr. Pugh graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. After receiving a degree from the University of Puget Sound, he worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor until deciding to work with the American Red Cross during World War II. He served from 1942-1946 as the Military Welfare Services Field Director in the Philippines, concentrating on Leyete Island. On March 31, 1946, he received a Citation for Meritorious Service from the American Red Cross. From 1946-1972, Paul served the state of Washington as a Supervisor of Vocational Rehabilitation. He was recognized with a Citation for Meritorious Service from the State of Washington's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in 1969, for his work with the handicapped. During this time, Paul also volunteered his time to work with the Washington State Heart Association and the Cardiac Care Clinic of the University of Washington Hospital. As Vocational Consultant, his responsibility was to supervise the evaluation of employment potential for cardiac patients. In addition, he published and presented several papers for American Heart Association conferences. Mr. Pugh was a Life member of the National Rehabilitation Association. After retirement, Paul and his wife, Margie, enjoyed life in the mountains of Cedar Crest, New Mexico. Along with his love of gardening, fishing, and traveling, he was an active member of the Los Altos Christian Church. Since moving to Indianapolis, Paul has been very involved with his poetry, Bible study, activities at GreenTree and as a member of the Warren Hills Christian Church. Mr. Pugh was the widower of Margie. He is survived by his daughters, Joan LaBow of Redmond, Washington, and Anne Brown of Indianapolis; his sons, Richard A. Pugh of Camano Island, Washington, David F. Hill of Cedar Crest, NM and Ted Hill Jr. of Indianapolis; his sisters, Betty Crippen of Tacoma, WA and Jessamyn Sherman of Olympia, WA. His brother is the Rev. Samuel F. Pugh, who lives at Robin Run in Indianapolis. There are also eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Shirley Brothers' Mortuary; there will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29th at the Warren Hills Christian Church. Memorial Donations may be sent to the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
