Carson -- Colonel Charles R. Carson, USAF (Ret), died Saturday, January, 18, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 83 years old. Colonel Carson was a native of South Carolina and a 1940 graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. His military career spanned 30 years. He served his country during World War II in North Africa. He had multiple assignments in the continental United States, one of which was at the Pentagon. He and his family spent 3 years in Lakenheath England during the 1950's. He culminated his Air Force career as a Directorate Chief at Defense Atomic Support Agency. He retired in 1971, making Albuquerque home. He was a Senior Navigator and held the following decorations: The Legion of Merit, The Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; numerous other campaign and service medals and ribbons. He was an avid tennis player whose friends and family will miss his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn; son, Charles R. Carson, Jr.; daughters, Cathy Carson Tschasar and Chris Carson Hyde; granddaughters, Cyndi Carson, Ashlee Hyde, Jessica Hyde and Kassandra Carson; grand-son, Austin Hyde. Colonel Carson was preceded in death by grandchildren Crista and Cristopher Carson, who are playing Yahtzee with Grandpa now. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd. Suite 413, Staten Island, NY 10305, for the Albuquerque Chapter.
