Tull -- Wilfred O. ¯Coach¯ Tull, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977 passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer. Coach Tull died in the presence of his wife and daughter on Tuesday January 7th, 2003. He was born in Trinidad & Tobago on October 5, 1916. Coach Tull retired from the United Nations in 1976 where he worked for 20 years. As an Olympian, husband, father, grandfather, friend and coach, he will be missed by the many whose lives he touched. As an Olympian he was the first athlete to represent Trinidad & Tobago at the XIV Olympics in London, England, in 1948. As a husband he truly was the head of the household. As a father he was a disciplinarian and provided us with the tools to be independent, and instilled in us a work ethic to always be the best. As a grandfather he wanted the very best for his grandchildren and was always there for them. As a friend he was supportive of those who needed his time and energy. As a coach he worked hard to bring out the very best in each of his athletes. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Monica; his sons, Julien Tull; Wesley Foster; Robert Foster; Wilfred Tull, Jr.; Wendell Tull and wife, Angela; and his only daughter, Hazel Tull-Leach and husband, Ken, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 1:30 p.m., at St. John¯s Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver Ave. SW, with The Rev. Gary Meade officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wilfred ¯Coach¯ Tull Memorial Fund, Albuquerque Community Foundation, P.O. Box 36960, Albuquerque, NM 87176-6960. The fund will benefit student-athletes who are participating in track & field at the collegiate level.
