Gonzalez -- Americo Z. Gonzalez, went to our Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at the age of 77, after fighting a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by Ida, his wife of 55 years; his daughters and their families, Evelina Gonzalez and Angela, Yolanda and Chester Kimber, Matthew, Andrew and Daniel, Dolores Gonzalez and Bill Richards, Amber and Adam, and Vivian and Mark MacKenzie, Briana, Leigha and Connor; four brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School. He lied about his age in order to enter the US Navy, where he served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He returned to Albuquerque, and worked as a civil service employee at Sandia Base, and then later Kirtland Air Force Base, where he retired after 36 years, as a shop foreman. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving camping, fishing and hunting. He loved to work on his son-in-law's farm, driving the tractor and branding cattle. He was a hard worker all of his life, and would help anyone who asked. A rosary will be recited Thursday, January 2, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, January 3, 2003, 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chester Kimber, Bill Richards, Mark MacKenzie, Matthew Kimber, Andrew Kimber, Adam Richards, and Daniel Kimber. Donations may be made in memory of Americo to the Camino Vista Manor Care Resident Activities Department, 7900 Constitution NE, or the charity of your choice.
