Salazar -- Donald M. Salazar of Santa Fe died peacefully on March 28, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Bergit and children, Auben and Paul; mother, Carmelita Salazar; brothers, Michael Salazar and Frank Salazar; sister, Barbara Jaynes and husband, Ron, all of Albuquerque; brother, Richard"Rico" Salazar and wife, Eva Behrens of Taos; and brother, David Salazar of Austin, Texas. Don was born on March 23, 1947 in Albuquerque to Carmelita and Paul Salazar. He grew up in Albuquerque where his family owned Salazar & Sons Mortuary. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Literature at the University of Arizona, Don received his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley where he was a Reginald Heber Smith Scholar. While in law school, Don met his wife to be, Bergit. They have been happily married for over thirty years. In 1993, Don joined the Rubin, Katz, Salazar, Alley, Rouse & Herdman law firm in Santa Fe where he remained for the rest of his career. He previously practiced with the Santa Fe and Albuquerque law firm of Sutin, Thayer and Browne. Don will be remembered for his significant community involvement and leadership. At the time of his death, Don served as a Regent of the University of New Mexico and on the board of directors of Rancho de las Golondrinas Museum, the Santa Fe Fiesta Foundation, the First National Bank of Santa Fe, and the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. Over the years he was also a director of the United Way of Santa Fe, Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, Santa Fe Economic Development, Inc., Santa Fe Country Club, and the Santa Fe Festival of the Arts. Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Rancho de las Golondrinas Museum, La Cienega, New Mexico.
