Lovato -- Filomeno"Shorty" S. Lovato, 84, a lifetime resident of Manzano, NM passed away peacefully in his ranch house in Manzano, NM, Tuesday, May 6, 2003 after a short illness. He was born May 20, 1917 in Manzano, NM to Jose Jesus and Elifda (Silva) Lovato. He married Pablita Torres April 19, 1939 in Manzano, NM. Filomeno is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pablita Torres Lovato and their ten children, Dora and Jim Pitchford, Elfie and Robert Romero, Fidel and Emma Lovato, Estella Vigil, Rufina and Fred Oter, Gloria and Maclovio Zamora, Lenora and David Romero, Gabriel Lovato, Gilbert and Naphie Lovato, Manie Lovato, and Ed Daley; 37 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Natividad Lovato. Filomeno was a member of the St. Alice Catholic Parish and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Manzano, NM. He was a Grand Knight in the Knight of Columbus, a carpenter, a plumber, a rancher. Filomeno will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather; great-grandfather; great-great-grandfather; and dear friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. There will be a viewing Wednesday, May 7, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Manzano, NM. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 7, 2003, 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated May 8, 2003, 11:00 a.m. both at Our Lady of Sorrows with Father Florian Renaud officiating, burial will follow in the church yard cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Romero, John Garcia, Norman Lovato, Salvador Vigil, A.J. Hallifax, Dion Zamora, Juan Romero, Miguel Lovato, Joseph Lovato Baca, and Sierra Lovato Daley. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his other grandsons and granddaughters. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainer, NM 847-2331.
