Kessler -- Mary Beth Kessler, Albuquerque native and resident of Dana Point, CA, succumbed to cancer on April 26, 2003. A well known tennis professional, Mary Beth is fondly remembered by many friends and students. A 1968 graduated of St. Pius X High School, Mary graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Sociology in 1972. While at UNM Mary was ranked #1 on the University's Womens Tennis team. She was the Head Tennis Professional at Four Hills Country Club from 1972 - 1987 and was intermittently ranked in womens' singles and doubles during this time. In 1987, Mary Beth relocated to southern California where she coached and taught tennis to private students until her death. She also served as director of the annual Los Ninos Tennis Tournament which benefits children with special needs. Mary Beth loved teaching her students about tennis, but also about respect for others and becoming better human beings. She left the world a bit better and that alone is to have succeeded. Mary Beth is survived by her parents, Marcella and Chuck Kessler; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Max Dominguez; sons, Max and Joseph; aunt and uncle, Marina and Warren Flood all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by Irwin and Dorothy Wagner and Ralph and Elaine Heiring; aunt, Leta Wagner of Dubuque, IA; aunts and uncles of Dubuque Iowa; and uncle, Jack Kessler of McMechen, West Virginia; aunt, Dolores Moore of St. Clarisville, OH. She is also survived by her dear friends, Dr. Jerry and Karen Stevens and their children, Ben, Chris and Susie; along with all her wonderful friends in California who helped Mary in her fight against cancer. A Memorial Mass for Mary will be celebrated by Fr. Richard Olona on May 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
