Hill -- Victor Linville Hill, passed away peacefully with Donna, his wife of 65 years at his side, on May 3, 2003. Born in Cabin Creek, West Virginia on January 23, 1912 to William and Elizabeth Hill, Vic Hill led a long and satisfying life. Graduating from the University of Kentucky's College of Engineering in 1937, Vic mined copper in Tennessee, mercury in California, sulfur in Wyoming, uranium in New Mexico and lignite in North Dakota. In 1965, he joined Nordberg Manufacturing Company as district manager in Toronto, Ontario and later as regional manager in San Francisco. Elected to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineer's Legion of Honor, Vic Hill was respected for his integrity, his devotion to his work, and his knowledge. He was especially proud of his work with"the over the hill gang," a group of retired engineers and geologists who, in 1977, went from exploration to uranium production in record-setting pace. During his retirement years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Vic became a Master Gardner and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1987. An avid sports fan, Vic cheered enthusiastically for the Kentucky Wildcats, the Cincinnati Reds and, more recently, the SMU Mustangs. Vic Hill was known for his optimistic spirit, inquisitive mind and noble heart. But above all, Vic Hill was a family man. In addition to his wife, Donna, Vic Hill is survived by his son, William R. Hill of Tucson, Arizona; his daughter, Vicki L. Hill of Dallas, Texas; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Hill of Tucson, Arizona; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews in Arizona, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, as well as friends all over the country. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Owenwood United Methodist Church, 1451 John West Road, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family has asked that contributions to celebrate Vic Hill's life be sent either to Owenwood United Methodist Church or to the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40506.
