Bohn -- Michael Penberthy Bohn, respected scientist and loving father, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the age of 58. Michael was known for his great love of his children who he raised as a single parent. His many interests included river rafting, scuba diving, horseback riding, flying, spelunking, amateur magic, hiking and mountaineering. Michael was passionate about Alaska and his trips there were the highlight of his many adventures. Michael was a talented photographer and a member of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club. He was a founder of the recently formed Albuquerque Photographers Gallery in Old Town. His work is known for its deeply saturated colors and elegant simplicity. His images have won numerous local and state awards, including Best of Show at the New Mexico State Fair. Michael was a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked for twenty years. He was awarded the Employee Recognition Award for Outstanding Service in the year 2002. Michael attended the US Military Academy at West Point, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and graduated with a PhD in Applied Mechanics from Stanford University. He taught Engineering at UC Berkeley, George Washington University and Stanford University. Michael is survived by his daughter, Juliette Bohn, and his son, Alex Bohn. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Smith and her husband, Samuel Smith; his father, John Bohn; his siblings, John A. Bohn, Bob Bohn, Bill Bohn, Susie Maguire, and Peter Smith; his stepdaughters Amy, Amber and Krystle Gordon; and his long time friend, Katy Lang. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, May 24th, at 3 p.m. at 1000 Florida SE in Albuquerque. For more information, please call (505) 265-4439.
