Salazar -- Vidal S. Salazar, longtime business owner of the Albuquerque area and deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend died peacefully July 4, 2003 surrounded by his family. Vidal was born on October 7, 1920 to Teresa and Jose Salazar in Mosquero, New Mexico. Married Amanda Olivas in February 1942. Vidal enlisted in the military in 1942, most of that time was spent in Holland and Germany with the 9th Army headquarters, as assistant chief installer, setting up communications. Also served in the Battle of the Buldge. Vidal and Amanda later moved to Albuquerque in 1947 and opened up a business in shoe repair and sales, on Bridge Street southwest, under the name of Salazar's Shoe and Boot. Sold the business and moved to Bernalillo, New Mexico in 1977 and opened Ranchero Boots with his only son Robert. Vidal was in business for 55 years. He was also a member of the Sandoval County Sheriff's Posse in Bernalillo, VFW and DAV. Vidal had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He also loved animals and life. He always was there to help those in need. Vidal is survived by his loving wife, Amanda to whom he was passionately devoted to for 62 years. Also daughters, Veronica Salazar and loving friend, Karen Wallenburg of New York State, Judy Bernal of Rio Rancho and son, Robert Salazar of Bernalillo; grandchildren, Raquel Aragon and her husband, Raymond Aragon of Bernalillo, Kellie Bernal, Todd Bernal and Jesse Wallenburg; great-granddaughter, Selena Garcia. Also survived by his sister, Della Salazar; brother, Frank Joe Salazar and his wife, of Albuquerque; loving in-laws, Gilbert Olivas, Rose and Bill Baca, Ramona Salazar; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Benny Salazar and Theresa Garcia and close friends. We would like to thank Odyssey Hospice, especially Claira Bo and Clem for your kind hearts and support. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church-San Lorenzo. Funeral Mass Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-Bernalillo.
