Chafey -- Mrs. Polly Chafey, 72, died peacefully on August 6, 2003 from chronic emphysema. She was at home in Northwest Albuquerque, surrounded by family and friends and her husband Donald, of 47 years. Alongside her husband, Polly enjoyed some 41 years of Navy and Federal Government Service, and she devoted 45 years of her life to the treatment of alcoholism, as a volunteer and professional Navy counselor. She was known throughout the U.S. for sharing her vibrant, encouraging story and the loving sustained support of her fellowship group, one day at a time. Born in Baltimore, MD, she lived on both coasts and touched the lives of innumerable addicts. In addition to her husband, Polly is survived by her sister and brother in-law, Sandra and Artemus Edwards, of Albuquerque, and their son, Taylor of Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian Hospice, 8300 Constitution, NE, Albuquerque , NM, 87110, or the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
