Servis -- John Dodge Servis, Colonel US Army (Ret.), a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died on Tuesday, July 29, 2003. He is survived by his beloved wife, Glynn Servis of Albuquerque; daughter, Ann Urist and husband, Steve; grandchildren, John Urist and wife, Kristin, and Kelly Grice and husband, Jimmy, all of Albuquerque. Colonel Servis was born on January 4, 1916 in Clearwater, FL to Ernest and Florence Servis. Colonel Servis was a 1939 graduate of the University of Florida and in 1941 received a Master's Degree in Chemistry also from the University of Florida. In 1951, he received a Master's Degree in Nuclear Physics from Ohio State University. His career included military education at the Chemical Corps School, the Infantry School, the Naval Postgraduate School, Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. )From 1952 to 1954, he served with Joint Task Force Seven and was stationed at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) with the Health and Safety Division. In this assignment, he supervised radiological safety operations at the Nevada and Eniwetok Proving Grounds and was certified as a Health Physicist. In 1956, he was an Atomic CBR plans officer at SHAPE. From 1962 to 1964, Colonel Servis was the Deputy Commander at the Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. He served as a Test Director for Test Command, Defense Atomic Support Agency at Sandia Base before going to Vietnam in 1965. In Vietnam, he served as Chief, Plans and Operations Division, US Army Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, he was the Commanding Officer of the US Army Materiel Command Field Office at Sandia Base. Military awards include Legion of Merit, the Army Commendation Ribbon with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and numerous other service medals and ribbons. Colonel Servis retired from the military in 1971 and made his home in Albuquerque. He worked for the City of Albuquerque as an environmental scientist and retired in 1981. He was a member of the East Chapel of Kirtland Air Force Base. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003, 11:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will take place at the family plot in Lee Memorial Park, Tupelo, MS. Memorial services in Tupelo will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Jefferson St. Chapel of W. E.
