Slater -- Arthur R. Slater, 80, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2003. He is survived by his sons: Walter, Charles and wife, Pat; grandsons, Andrew, Michael and wife, Leslie, Chris and wife, Carrie; granddaughters, Connie and husband, Norm; great grandchildren, Jessierae, Melissa, Aaron and Cody; sisters, Edna, Lorraine, Myrtle and Joan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Slater of 58 years. Mr. Slater was born in Kearny, New Jersey on January 17, 1923. He served as a paratrooper in WWII. He then moved to Santa Fe, NM where he met his wife and worked as manager for B.F. Goodrich. He began a political career for the state of New Mexico as head of Census. He also served as land appraiser for the Bernalillo County Assessors Office for 30 years. Mr. Slater worked closely with the Veterans Administration and Casa Angelica helping needy children. He was a member of American Legion, port 13. He was also an active member of Queen of Heaven and Risen Savior Catholic Community. Mr. Slater was a truly great and remarkable man. His loss will be mourned by many. His family will miss his wisdom, compassion, and unique ability to touch lives. A Rosary will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m., French Mortuary Wyoming Chapel.
