Nielson -- Ruth Nadine Nielsen was born December 29, 1917 in a farm house near Blue Springs, Nebraska to Waldo Emerson and Hildred Hull Mowry. She was the third of eight children. She died in the arms of her Savior Jesus March 29, 2003 at the Presbyterian Hospice, Anna Kaseman Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 85 years and 3 months. She graduated from the Holmesville Nebraska High School. During World War II she helped build the Beechcraft AT-10 training aircraft near Wichita, KA, and as an inspector for Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines near Kansas City. She worked as an inspector for eight years with the Elgin Watch Company, Lincoln, NE. During later years, she enjoyed serving as a Nanny for many Albuquerque families. On May 29,1956 she was united in marriage to Martin Nielsen of Western, NE at Faith Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE. Their first home was in Fort Worth, TX. She was a faithful US Air Force wife following her husband to assignments at San Bernardino, CA, Puntzi Mountain Air Force Station, British Columbia, Canada, Moses Lake, WA, Lincoln, NE, Los Angeles, CA, Washington, DC, Tempe, AZ, and finally Kirtland AFB, NM. While living in Canada, she was an avid trout fisherman. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Albuquerque. She served as a leader in Boy and Girl Scouting and was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Ladies Guild. She liked to travel and had visited Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. She enjoyed traveling around the United States in their light plane with her husband and the children. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Iva Maxine Crawford; brothers, Merlin, Charles, Waldo Elton, and an infant brother, Robert; brothers-in-law Robert Crawford and Jamie Porter. Survivors include her husband, Martin Nielsen; daughter, Lori Cords and husband, John of Edgewood, NM, son, Gary Nielsen of Albuquerque; grandson, Shaun Thompson of Edgewood, NM; sisters, Edna Mae Porter of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Lorene Ellison and husband, Don of Humbolt, KA. Also mourning her passing is a very special family of Doctors Margaret and T.Y. Chu of Alexandria, VA and Albuquerque, NM and their children, Arthur and wife, Jariya of New York City, Mae Mae at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NYC, and Sha Sha at Stanford University, CA. Services will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 210 Alvarado, SE, Albuquerque, NM, Friday April 4, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
