MONTANO -- Rufina Salazar Montano, 92, a lifelong resident, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003. She was born in Albuquerque on September 17, 1910. Rufina attended Albuquerque High School, University of New Mexico and St. Joseph College where she received an elementary teaching degree. She taught in the Albuquerque Public School System for 36 years. Included among her teaching assignments were Los Griegos, La Luz and Adobe Acres. Rufina married the late Filomeno A. Montano on August 18, 1934. Survivors include her three children: Melvyn Montano and wife, Marian, of Albuquerque; Aileene Sydow and husband, Dave, of Chadds Ford, PA; and Phil Montano and wife, Mary Ann of Albuquerque; her brother, Albert Salazar and wife, Mary Lou of Dahlonega, GA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Sunday, September 7, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 8, at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Pallbearers will be Douglas Sydow, Joseph Montano, Karen Dyckes Y Montano, Kristel Montano, Kathy Montano, and Karla Covington.
