JOHNSON -- Ann Johnson, 82, longtime resident of Albuquerque, residing at Monzano del Sol, died at Albuquerque's Heart Hospital, August 30, 2003. Widow of C. Floyd Johnson, she is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Harvill of Tome, NM and Susan Jolly of San Diego, CA; a grandson, Casey Jolly of San Diego; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Donaghy of San Diego. Born in 1920 in Silver City, NM, daughter of Frank and Maude Light, Ann was a second-generation native of Grant County, NM. A graduate of University of New Mexico with a degree in Spanish, she went on to a distinguished career as administrative assistant in UNM's Foreign Languages Department, from which she retired in 1979. Throughout her adult life, Ann was active in The League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, and the Pan American Round Table, organizations to which she gave generously of her administrative skills, serving as office holder both locally and regionally. In recent years she had been an honored volunteer at New Mexico's Planned Parenthood Association. Her penchant for organizing and her volunteer-spirit defined her life to the end, including active leadership on the Resident's Council and other resident-administrative groups at Monzano del Sol, the Albuquerque retirement community where she and Floyd moved in 1995. She will be remembered for her love of the Spanish language, culture and literature, for her love of books, her love of gardening, her ardent support of the Democratic Party and principles of social service, and her example of the importance of grassroots democratic process. Most of all, family and friends celebrate her as a woman of strong character, a genial hostess who loved a good story and funny jokes, whose drive made her a ready and tireless worker in every situation, and whose sense of meticulous organization took care of the business of life to the last detail, leaving behind no loose ends. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to send memorial donations in the name of Ann Johnson to Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, 719 San Mateo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Sunrise Funeral Options 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505)821-0010
