WHITMORE, ELMO JOHN Elmo John Whitmore III, 60, of Rio Rancho passed away Feb 13, 2015 after a short illness. Born Feb 1, 1955 he was the son of Elmo John Whitmore II and Stella Myrtis Huskkey Jones. He was predeceased by both his parents. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Whitmore, Rio Rancho, NM; son Jeremy Whitmore; and daughter Jennifer Savage, both from a previous marriage; a brother Tim Whitmore (Laura); and three sisters Bonnie Dixon (Larry), Denise Barrett (Tim), Colleen Duncan (Robert). John was a decorated veteran, having enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for 20 years. John served during the Desert Storm campaign and was honorably discharged holding the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Among his awards was the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. John was a long time member of the American Legion Post 118, Rio Rancho, and previously served as Commander. Funeral Services will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Thursday at 1:30pm followed by a memorial at 4:30pm the American legion Post 118, 1500 Barbara Lp, Rio Rancho.
