ANDERSON, HAROLD M., PHD As the sun rose over Albuquerque on the morning of January 29, 2015, Professor Emeritus Harold M. Anderson, age 66, departed. Harold was born in St. Claire, MI on November 28, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents Nona Chambers Anderson born in Saskatchewan, Canada and Anton Anderson who emigrated from Norway to the United States in 1910. He is survived by his wife Maryanne Danfelser, step-son Cameron Danfelser, daughter in law Jackie, grandchildren Brianna and CJ Danfelser and siblings Gordon Anderson (Pat) of Howell, MI, Dr. John Anderson (Valerie) of Ham Lake, MN, James Anderson (Patty) of Grosse Pointe, MI and Nancy Markel of Howell, MI, nieces and nephews in the USA and cousins in Canada and Norway. Harold took pride in his Norwegian heritage. Dr. Anderson graduated from Marine City, MI high school where he represented the school as a "Quiz Kid". He received a full academic scholarship to the University of Michigan where he spent his freshman year. In 1968 he worked as a regional coordinator for the Presidential Campaign of Senator Eugene McCarthy. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-Chemistry from the University of California, Berkley. He completed his Master of Science and PhD in Chemical Engineering at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Harold taught and conducted research at the University of New Mexico, Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering for 25 years, retiring in 2006. His primary interest focused on Gaseous Electronics; reactive discharges for plasma processing as related to the semi-conductor industry. His research and subsequent publications brought national and international recognition. Invited lectures were presented in Australia, Japan and many countries in Europe. He cherished the friendships and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the United States and abroad. Harold's personal life was as rich as his professional life. He enjoyed golf and tennis, folk music, rhythm and blues, dancing, Hawaiian shirts, Thai food, roasting green chili on the grill and global travel. A celebration of Dr. Anderson's (Harold) life will take place at a later date in the Spring. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Neptune Society. Deep and sincere gratitude and a huge thank you is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff of Lovelace Medical Center, including Emergency Room, ICU, 4th floor and finally Gentiva Hospice. The 29 days we spent with you commands our respect for your skill, knowledge and compassion. Thank you.
