ROMERO, LEVI A. Funeral Services have been changed due to weather conditions. Levi A. (LA) Romero, New Mexican son, friend, brother, husband, and father, born in Velarde, New Mexico to Flavio and Cirila (nee Martinez) Romero on April 23, 1931, died quietly on January 27, 2015 in Sun City, AZ after a long and private battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Levi proudly served three tours as a sergeant in the Korean War earning a Purple Heart. He worked in the New Mexico state government for many years in the department of finance administration as well as in the department of corrections and as warden of NM Penitentiary. He also worked as a private accountant, and taught college accounting. After his retirement from state government, he returned to work as City Manager of Espanola before retiring again with his beloved wife, Frina (nee Gallegos), to Sun City. Levi was married to Frina, whom he preceded in death, for 57 years and leaves behind his children, Levi A. Romero Jr., Annamaria Romero-Lehrer, Socorro Snow, Josina Romero O'Connell, and Cristina Castaneda; as well as his loving sons-in-law; 13 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He now rests in peace leaving us all with memories of a great man who had a quick wit, handsome grin, musical talent, and infectious laughter that liberally peppered the many stories he loved telling. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Velarde. Please join us for a Rosary before the Mass at 10 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. You may also join us for his interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3rd. Levi would ask for the flowers of your prayers rather than real flowers at his grave and his family asks that if you are so moved, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, Sun City, AZ.
