HUGHES, HELEN KATHERINE Age 71, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on January 18, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Helen was born on August 17, 1943 in Gerbstadt, Germany to Alexandra and Frank Gabrysiak. She and her parents immigrated to the United States, settling in Gary, IN when she was eight. Helen married Robert C. Hughes Jr. on Jan. 30, 1965 and raised her family in Valparaiso, IN until they retired to Rio Rancho, NM in 1986. Helen worked as a health care aide for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling her dogs, as well as gardening and working in her yard. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert of Rio Rancho, NM; her sons Robert C. Hughes III of Cheyenne, WY and Kevin Hughes of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter Tracey Hughes of Albuquerque, NM; her four grandchildren, Bradley, Cody, Michael and Cayla; her sister Irene Puckett of Lake Station, IN and brother Edward Gabrysiak of Las Vegas, NV. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister, Mary. Cremation was performed by Daniels Family Funeral Services, Rio Rancho.
