HEINSOHN, ROBERT EARL Robert Heinsohn died peacefully in his home on December 14, 2014 at the age of 93. Born on October 30, 1921 in St. Louis Missouri, Bob served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education as well as his Master's degree in Education. While completing his degree, Bob also played basketball for three years and competed in the NCAA tournament in 1944. Bob first moved to New Mexico in 1951 to work at Wagon Mound High School. In 1952 he became the head basketball coach at Albuquerque High School where he remained until 1954. Bob briefly tried his hand at real estate and insurance, however he soon returned to his true passion; coaching. He taught at Comanche Elementary until he retired at the age of 65. Bob, clearly a talented and well-loved teacher, would frequently be greeted around town with an affectionate "Hey Coach!" from a former student he had coached as a child, now all grown up. He was a skilled athlete, artist, teacher, and craftsman and after retirement he continued to be as creative and motivated as ever. He enjoyed several hobbies, traveled extensively with his wife, was always mastering the latest technology, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 37 years; sisters, Thelma Kane and Jeanne Chlibowski; son, Keith Heinsohn; step-children, Susan, Jackie, and Greg Churchill; and grandchildren, Caley McGuill, Andrew Parker, Rachel Parker, and Reeve Churchill. We will miss his laugh, his sharp wit, his optimistic practicality, his jovial sense of humor, and his big heart. In accordance with his wishes, a small family memorial was held to lay Bob to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on December 23, 2014.
