BACA, FRANCES SISTER FMI Sister Frances Baca, FMI, passed away December 18, 2014 at St. Francis Convent, Amarillo, TX. Sister Frances was born July 30, 1915 to Elfego and Ignacita (Montes) Baca in Santa Fe, NM. She is survived by one sister, Sister Viola Baca, FMI, of Amarillo, TX; 12 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Lalo, Benito and Bert, one sister Evangeline Baca, and one sister-in-law, Margaret Emily Baca. Sister Frances was raised in Pena Blanca, NM and after graduating from Pena Blanca High School she attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and graduated from St. Josephs College in Albuquerque, NM with a degree in Education. Sister Frances taught school in the Sandoval County School District for 34 years beginning in one-room schools in northern Sandoval County. She retired in 1970 to care for her aging parents. In 1987 Sister Frances was accepted into the Order of Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Amarillo, TX. She professed her first vows in 1990 and her final vows in 1995. She then helped teach at St. Anthony School in Hereford, TX and Resurrection School in Los Angeles, CA where she became the school Librarian and Treasurer. Sister Frances retired in 2006 to St. Francis Convent, Amarillo, TX. Rosary for Sister Frances will be at 7:30 pm, Sunday, December 21st and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 22nd at 10:30 am, both at St. Francis Convent, 4301 NE 18th Ave., Amarillo, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Francis Convent. Boxwell Mortuary Amarillo, TX is entrusted.
