WINGER, RUTH Ruth Winger passed away Monday, Nov 17th. She is survived by her sons Richard of Phoenix, Ronald (Nancy) of Albuquerque, NM: five grandchildren, Keri, Alan, Nathan, Sarah, Matthew; nephews, Mark and Jack Freed of Santa Rosa, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Harry and Clara, brothers Al and Sidney and her sister Pearl. Ruth was the youngest of four children and was born on May 31st, 1914 in Marianna, Arkansas. In Marianna her parents owned a shoe store and Ruth attended school there until she was 12. When her older brother Sidney graduated from high school the family moved to Detroit where Harry and Clara opened another shoe store. Over time the family business grew to ten shoe stores called Checker Shoe Stores where Ruth worked along side her parents. In 1938 Ruth met the love of her life, Robert and they married on July 20, 1941 in Detroit. They were married for 64 years. Robert entered the Army in 1943 and when he returned they moved to Tucson and joined the rest of Ruth's family. They were blessed with two sons, Richard and Ronald. She was active in Temple Emanu-El where she and Robert were members for 57 years. She was involved in numerous charitable organizations in Tucson including the City Of Hope. In 1970 she decided to become a real estate agent and had a successful career. Ruth and Robert enjoyed traveling and taking cruises all over the world. Ruth never said no to a trip. Ruth was known for her love of entertaining and great parties. She was a political junkie, always had a opinion, and could report on any current event. After Robert's passing Ruth moved to Albuquerque and resided at the Woodmark Uptown where she enjoyed the friendship of residents and staff. She set a high bar for a long full life. A graveside service was held at Evergreen Mortuary, Tucson, Arizona, Thursday November 20th at 10:30 am.
