DAVIS, JO OLIVER May 1, 1922 - September 16, 2014 He did what he had to do throughout his life with characteristic kindness and compassion. A man who lived for his family and his country, Jo worked throughout high school and college in Albuquerque until he "did what he had to do" and joined the Army Air Corps and fought in the Pacific Theater. After finishing Officers Candidate School he served on the island of Okinawa as an ordnance officer, often working 19 and 20 hour days. He returned to Albuquerque and married the love of his life, the former, Virginia Beirne. Together they raised three children Ray (Buddy), Frank, and Patty. Jo spent his career as a mechanical and design engineer at Sandia National Laboratories faithfully continuing to serve his country. He was preceded in death by his dear son Ray, parents Jacob Oliver Davis and Vera Walker Davis and, most importantly, his beloved Virginia. Jo was a devoted husband. He cared for his wife as she fought the battle with Alzheimer's disease. When she was no longer able to live at home, he visited her every day at the Albuquerque Rehabilitation Center, sitting at her side for an hour every day holding her hand and soothing her, this continued even when she was too ill to realize he was there. His love accompanied her on her journey from this life after 65 years together. Jo is survived by his son, Franklin Davis and his wife Judy Bracik of Edmonds Washington; his daughter Patricia Jo Grigsby and husband Keith of Rio Rancho; his granddaughter Danika Davis Schmidt and husband Zak of Washington; grandson Colin Davis also of Washington; grandson Steven Ray Grigsby and wife Michelle of Kansas; grandson Pastor Michael Grigsby and wife Alicia of Arizona; and three great-grandchildren Konnor Schmidt, Elaina Schmidt and Claire Grigsby. Jo is also survived by his nieces, nephews and several honorary family members. His life will be celebrated at a memorial on Friday, October 24th at Calvary Albuquerque in the Prayer Chapel, 4001 Osuna NE, lunch will be served following the memorial at the church. Joint interment of Jo and Virginia will be celebrated in the spring at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
