O'CONNELL, DANIEL FRANK Age 85, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away September 3, 2014 in San Jose, California. Born April 20, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was married in 1948 to Juanita Jean Boling, and interrupted his college education to work and raise a family of seven children. He moved his family gradually westward with the computer industry, and gradually settled in Palo Alto, California, where he worked as a technical writer for many of the local software companies. He went back to college and received his Bachelors in English in 1989 from College of Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, California. He and his wife retired in 1993 and moved to Rio Rancho. He had numerous hobbies and interests, was a prolific reader and also enjoyed backpacking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, fishing, line-dancing, writing, geneology, painting, calligraphy, and singing, and played both guitar and banjo. Daniel and Juanita were both members of the church choir and participated in classes and activities at the Meadowlark Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jean Marie O'Connell (1951-1972); wife, Juanita Boling O'Connell (1929-2006), and by his daughter Alice O'Connell Jensen (1961-2007). In 2013, due to weakening health, he returned to California to live in the care of his oldest living daughter, Rita. He is survived by his remaining children: Daniel Thomas O'Connell, of Rio Rancho, NM; Rita O'Connell, of San Jose, CA; Susan O'Connell Weissberg, of Arroyo Grande, CA; Kevin O'Connell, of Omaha, NE; and Carmel O'Connell, of San Francisco, CA. He has seven grandchildren ranging in age from 17 to 25: Karina Juanita and Karmina Daniela Rivas of San Jose, California; Emma and Colin O'Connell of Omaha, Nebraska; Jessica Marie and Heather Renee Jensen of Austin, Texas; and Franklin Medina-O'Connell of San Francisco, California. His cremains will be buried at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM, beside those of his wife, Juanita. The family will be present at a memorial mass which will be held at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Rio Rancho on October 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. and friends are welcome to attend.
