PIPKIN, JOHN NICHOLAS (NICK) Died in his home Friday, September 12, 2014 at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Laurie Sandstrom Pipkin; his three children, Rachael Jojola, Jeremy Pipkin and Joshua Pipkin, all from the Albuquerque area; and his stepchildren, Carley Hendren and Nevada Sanchez. Nick is also survived by many and much loved grandchildren. Nick was born in 1952 in Falls City, NE to Lymone and Jim Pipkin. The family moved to Albuquerque when Nick was 13 years old and except for his time in the Army, he has stayed put. Nick was a true outdoorsman, the only problem was he couldn't kill anything...not even the fish he, his brothers, and his boys caught down at Elephant Butte Lake. He loved the lake, and fishing was some serious business but the fish were always thrown carefully back in or Nick yelled at you for hurting the fish. His love for the outdoors was only rivaled by his love for music. He spent many hours playing guitar with his brothers, sons, and friends. He worked his entire life in construction and has built many of the streets, sidewalks and channels around Albuquerque and New Mexico. Nick was working for Salls Brothers Construction and loved his work, loved building things, and loved the people he worked with over the years. Nick and his older brother, Jim Pipkin, his younger brother, Jeff Pipkin, both of Albuquerque, and his sister, Pamela Pipkin Merrill from California, have always been close and as siblings have done many wonderful things together, but they usually involved water and fishing. He was gruff, grumpy, funny and loved by all who knew him. His granddaughter, Jocelyn Davis, said you could talk to him about anything. He was always willing to listen. If you ever told Nick anything that was going good in your life or something that you were working on, be prepared to hear "right on".
